Yeah that dress doesn't scream funereal to me in the actual shot of Leia in it, but we'll see.

I don't really get how they're going to reconcile decades of being apart in a few minutes. I mean, I'll reserve judgment until I see it but given that there's a ton of exposition they have to cover when they meet up - Kylo going evil, Rey being kidnapped by Kylo, who Rey is (if she's a relative), Han trying to argue with Leia not to fire her super weapon at the Starkiller Base because Rey is there..how are they going to fit reconciling 20'years of pain and estrangement in there too?! Sounds like they have enough conflict between the two of them in terms of Han wanting to rescue Rey and Leia's plans to use the superweapon without throwing in them being divorced too.

Also, does anyone know when their awkward reunion happens? MSW has it when Leia arrives at Maz's castle, but the children's book released makes it sound like Poe is the one to rescue them and then Han meets up with Leia at the Rebelliom base.

Reminds me a bit on one of Padme's Senate costumes from Ep II.

At least JJ has gotten a few things right

This is my first time in the Leia thread for some reason, so here we go...

Does anybody think it could be possible that Leia has gotten even a *tiny* bit of training from Luke in using the Force? I'm pretty sure she is force sensitive. Or has she just avoided it entirely for 30 years?

I really don't see how it does that at all. It would be a great callback and way to link the past with the future by doing that, not to mention have a nice little family parallel there. It'd be very, if I can make up a word, 'Lucasian'.

I still don't think that's a trilogy-war starting comment, just someone being a bit skeptical of JJ, or maybe he just doesn't like him. That's how I interpreted that - for some reason a lot of people don't like JJ. As a fan of his I've always met people who bitch about him for whatever reason - even back in the days of Cloverfield people did it.

Right right but this is a place where you can't discuss your opinions on previous star wars movies in fear that it'll start up a flame war. So if there's a fan of JJ Abrams and people are stating how there's a lot of things he's messing up prior to even seeing the movie, that can start a similar problem but no one seems to care about that.

    That was my point.

    BACK ON POINT THOUGH....

Carrie Fisher looks good these days!

I'm not disagreeing but i'll offer an alternative...How would Leia look if she was saying a farewell to her niece, the daughter of her much loved and long lost brother. I think she'd be a little envious after possibly losing Han the person she would most like to turn to but she can't leave the Resistance. So she's sad, a little envious but overwhelmingly there's a bitter sweetness that father and daughter are being reunited...unlike she ever managed to do.

I personally think that shot says that Leia is saying goodbye to somebody who may not be related by blood, but who shares many of the endearing qualities that she, Han, and Luke had.

I love the picture of Leia's dress... I already want to make it! :D I think it's very befitting of her and I can't wait to see what else she wears.

If you think that's the case, than the thing to do is ignore it and not feed the war. Making comments about it certainly isn't helping. If you think something someone posted is against the rules, report it.

Not to be annoying, but I'm on a slow connection right now and can't watch video - what did JJ say?

I mean, I don't expect her to become a Jedi, but you'd think she would at least try to learn something really basic, even if it's just heightened awareness.

In a nutshell, that Leia made a conscious decision to focus on the Rebellion/Resistance rather than become a Jedi. He says that doesn't mean we don't still see her as "Force strong".

Yep, on the contrary JJ specifically says that while not a Jedi, Leia's natural force strength continues to be an intrinsic part of her character.

I guess one thing carried over from the EU/Legends: Leia not actually becoming a Jedi, at least by this point.

Great! As long as it's still a part of her character, that's what matters to me. That's good news then.

I'm trying not too look at too many pictures in these last couple weeks, so I am not sure which exactly you are talking about, but Leia has always had the ability to compartmentalize very well. We see it a lot in the original film. Even though Han may be gone, perhaps the destruction of Starkiller or the discovery of Rey or Luke or something is what she is pleased about at this specific moment.
