I saw the deleted scene as well.

I wish it had been in the film - I actually prefer this introduction, despite the nice moment that the ship landing gave Han/Leia.

Its inclusion would have made the film as a whole a bit more cohesive. It would have been nice to see bits and pieces of the Resistance along the way, versus them randomly dropping in halfway through the film. We also get a much needed (IMO) slice of insight into the workings of the Resistance, and of course, Leia's role and her position in the leadership...

The way the commander switched back and forth between military and royal titles for Leia was a nice touch. Plus, that look he gave her when he said, "No ma'am," sets us up for Rey's later assertion that the Big 3 are legends in-universe.

Plus it was another Poe mention, which is nice since he was absent for so much of he film, it had that great callback from Leia with the quip about droids, and ended with a worthy C3po lamentation.

Hopefully this will put to rest the assertion that Carrie's acting is the reason her scenes got cut. She was great here. She really felt like Leia on Hoth to me. In charge and ready to go.

I agree, it was great... And I imagine this scene probably leads into her scene with Korr Sela. Which would have set up more strongly that Leia is running a rag tag team estranged from the powers that be. And I imagine the cheers would still have been as effective when she meets Han again. Do we know if any of her super weapon scenes were filmed. Or when she addresses her team in the group shot?

I was under the impression the Super Weapon plot was abandoned during the initial writing process, before they started filming. But I don't know if I just assumed that or if it was stated somewhere - I may be wrong.

It's not a very good introductory scene, IMO, and I fully understand why it was cut. Her reveal on the transport is far superior. Though I still have no idea what happened to the Kor Sella going to the Republic stuff...

So Leia did have a ponytail (that's the name, right?) during filming. I really liked it, and hope to see it in VIII or IX.

The worried officer (with a Brit accent?) was great too! But i can understand and appreciate the decision to cut it and have Han and Leia facing each other as they did. Threepio got laughs every single time I saw the film with his "hello" :)

I think it's a great scene and Carrie is good in it, but I agree that I can see why it got cut. As an intro it's not as strong as the one in the film. What will be interesting to see is whether or not the Kor Sella scene was filmed and ever ends up in a future release.

The Threepio moment is classic in that Takodana scene. Perfectly undercuts the (IMO fair) nostalgic reunion

I like the side ponytail. Adds a nice, feminine touch to an otherwise boxy, utilitarian look. Wonder why they reversed it.

Can't wait to see her deleted scene. It sounds so Leia.

Mind blown with all the new on set pics surfacing.

And I'm baffled by the side pony tail and how it was handled during filming. I see it is part of the hairstyle before attached -but did they do some takes with it up and some with it down? This is usually settled before filming begins -but they did promo shots with the look, etc. So confused. But wow to all this new content!

I saw it suggested that the ponytail was removed in Post.

no, that can't be right -it would change the entire back of the hair -where you see it is braided.

I think it was down while they were blocking/rehearsing some of the scenes (moments of which happened to have been captured on film) but for the actual filming they had it pinned up. It's probably not a very comfortable hairstyle.

Similarly, there's shots of Harrison doing scenes for TFA where he's running into the Falcon but he's wearing Tennis-shoes, instead of boots. For the same reason, I think.

(And, going way back, there's BTS pics from ESB of Carrie with her braids down instead of wrapped up in the Hoth-do.)

I'm thinking that also might be the case since the ponytail is the twist from the updo (not a braid this time) -but odd that they did promotional photos with it down. (unless those Ford, Fisher, Chewbacca shots were never promotional and just behind the scenes.)

it's too dark to tell -does she have it here? When they're actually slating a slot?

wow -so potentially the ponytail was digitally removed in ALL her shots? And in the behind the scene photos -like where she's smiling up at Chewie.

Probably. And I wonder why, as it really looks good. I hope the ponytail will be reused at some point.

Stupid work security. I have to wait until I get home to see them. I wish I had seen that deleted scene before it was taken down. Though I'm sure it is up somewhere, everything is forever on the web if you know where to look. I just need to find out.

    13. Leia originally sported a long ponytail.

Throughout the documentary, Carrie Fisher can be seen in character as General Leia Organa with a long ponytail draped over her left shoulder — but that hairstyle did not make the movie. The change is never remarked upon during the documentary, but the behind-the-scenes shots of Fisher's scenes with Ford seem identical to the finished film, which indicates that Leia's ponytail was likely erased digitally in post-production. (Disney did not immediately respond to a request for clarification on what happened with Leia's hair.)

would they have digitally recorrected the deleted scene too? -ugh, my brain, my brain. (what did you do today? I debated Carrie Fisher's hair.)

I don't get why they thought it didn't work. It looks fine to me, but I'm not in the business of film making, so....
But they most definitely corrected it in post. Hopefully whatever hairstyle they go for in 8, it sticks this time, because there were a couple of scenes where something just looked a bit off with Leia. I guess we now know why.

"I need to make it clear that I didn’t get this vibe at all from the film itself. I can understand a situation where Ben was twisted and brainwashed by Snoke - if you really want this, Abrams, I can stretch my imagination and accept the fact that Leia Organa and Han Solo would not fight against this with every scrap of tooth and nail between them, and snoke would have opportunity to brainwash Ben. I can believe that, and I can also believe what was shown to me IN THE FILM THAT YOU CREATED, believe the sheer amount of love and trust and care radiating from Han and Leia. I can wait for an explanation for Luke’s isolation. I can do that. The film itself was not absurd or out of character
But this? An insistence that genetics are all powerful and that Ben’s parents were “selfish” and had “their own agendas” and that’s why he was NEGLECTED????
And that, even further, “genetics are the most powerful thing” LIKE SON??? WHAT IS STAR WARS ABOUT??? AND IRREGARDLESS OF THE THEMES IN STAR WARS, /DO YOU REALIZE THAT SAYING GENES ARE THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS IS INCREDIBLY PROBLEMATIC IN A REAL LIFE CONTEXT///????" ^:)^

If genetics are the most powerful thing then how does he explain Luke and Leia not being evil?

    This makes no sense whatsoever

So then it's Han's genetics that really screwed Ben up?
