I think it's just Carrie's dress, not Leia's (I believe Oscar was careful to publish an image with the less spoiler possible)

 

I would say symbol of Skywalker twins, twin suns ... kind of memento to keep searching for him and she wears it even when she found him. Or maybe old gift from Luke before he vanished. It doesn't look like regal ring of House of Organa or something like that, she never wore the ring during original trilogy. Wedding ring is clearly the big ring.

 

As someone who considers myself somewhat fashionable, you don't wear the same accessories or jewelry every day for fashion. If you're doing that, it has special meaning to you.

 

So bittersweet to see pics of the space twins now, but I'm very appreciative and glad to see Oscar's pic.

Regarding the ring, MagnarTheGreat has been speculating about that ring for a while and yes she was wearing too in TFA

Yeah, me too. Although my favorite was the one of Leia giving the finger. It was so unexpected and made me laugh, which is something I really needed.

After studying the picture for a bit, I think Carrie is just wearing when of those big black robes that we've heard the actors have to wear whenever they are off-set. Mark, as well. I don't see any detailing anywhere on her attire, except for the sleeve, and that's probably just a bracelet. Honestly, I don't know how Oscar could have posted the picture otherwise, without getting his butt sued.

As for the double-stone ring, you already know what I think about that. And it's very promising that she wears it again in the next movie. I'm not sure what to make up the other ring. Could be anything, but certainly Leia is very jeweled-up in that picture.

 

being on set doesn't mean they are in a scene together. Being on break on set at the same time while wearing costumes however is a pretty good indication that they probably have at least 1 scene together.

Also, Luke's sleeves are exactly like those from his TFA costume and seem extremely clean to me. Not dirty and certainly not black.

EDIT: That is definitely not the same as the hooded robe Mark is wearing because it doesn't have a hood and the bracelet is on top of the sleeve, which is tight and not baggy like what Mark is wearing.

 

Luke doesn't seem to have grey hair, so could it be for a flashback?

 

I personally think they both are just wearing the baggy robes used to cover their actual costumes. I remember Mark mentioning these robes being used when he would need to walk to and from the set. Note the white sleeve under Mark's robe, it looks very similar to his episode VII costume.

In the end, I wonder if this is just an old behind the scenes photo taken during the filming of episode VII.

Mark looks like he's wearing one of those robes, but Carrie's seems to be wearing a dress. I could be wrong, but I think that's her outfit in Ep. VIII.

 

This may be from TFA, Mark appears to be wearing Luke's flashback outfit when he mournfully puts the cybernetic hand on Artoo. And that might be a cover Carrie is wearing over her regal dress from the end of the film. If only we could see the rest of that black Audi's number plate I could date it better.

 

Just because Carrie and Mark aren't wearing the exact same robe doesn't mean either one of them is openly in costume, let alone both. It could be that there are different versions of the "security robe" some with hoods and some without. Or he can be wearing a heavy robe that's part of his costume, while she's wearing a robe that's purely for security. Point is, I think there is no way Oscar would have posted that photograph if it gives away either one of their costumes for the next movie.

Besides which, the budget for these films is astronomical and they have access to the best costume designers on the planet. No way do I think the dress they designed for Leia to wear in the next movie is a shapeless black bag with no detailing.

 

Anyway, I think her earrings are the same from TFA.

 

I think most of us have seen this photo..if the PT had been filmed in the 1950's it could've looked something like this, could Debbie Reynolds have played Padme?

It looks like a dress. You can see texture and interesting structure - I mean it's not simple textile like hiding cloak. According to space around neck we can say that there isn't another dress under dress (either way it sounds weird).
Also the bracelet is on top of the sleeve.

 

I know she never wore that robe...that's because the robe is covering her actual costume, the same is the case for Mark.

Of the hug Chewbacca shared with Leia in TFA, he says, "That was probably the last screen embrace that we did"

 

the sleeves are tight and not loose like a robe. And the jewelry is on top of the sleeve. The jewelry would have to be taken off and refastened. I think this is part of the costume. (sorry actually forgot myself for a moment that she's still around and excited.)

 

This picture makes me really happy, which is quite something at a time like this. I'm really hoping for a reunion with Luke and Leia on screen, and this picture makes me much more optimistic about the chances of that happening.

 

I always assumed it was Joonas because Chewie was standing.
It's nice to find out that was Peter.
