Letting out a breath, Boz attempted to recall what he had heard of the previous missions that the man was talking about.
"Sir, I was not a member of the organisation at that time. I am not saying in any way that the mission would have gone differently if I were involved, so I cannot comment and will not belittle the previous actions of my fellow agents. But I am in charge of this mission and I can assure you that destruction is the last thing I want here, we're taking the a purely subtle approach and our entire aim is to protect the people."
Boz attempted to smile pleasetly at the man, though he had a feeling that charm would get him nowhere.
"Surely you can appreciate that we both have the same goal sir."

"Well since MI5 has furnished you with this new life after what you gave up on the Hutt Cartels, maybe you could start asking."

"That's not in the deal, friend. Both ends of the bargain were already fulfilled years ago. I'm no infochant, and I won't be one for your sake. Coronet has a lot of ears... it would only take two words to turn me into a rich man, and you into a dead one. My silence is the extent of my loyalty, and you'd be pushing your luck to ask for more."

    He turned around.

"If you want answers, stop asking 'what' and start asking 'who'. And stay out of my cantina."

He exited the disruption bubble, heading back towards the building, somehow even more annoyed than when he first came out.

For nearly a minute, the older officer sat in stone-faced silence, staring at Agent Girange. While it was impossible to read his expression, the man was almost certainly thinking over his options.

    Finally, he spoke.

"I will only say this once. Do not ask for details, do not ask for clarification, and above all, this doesn't go back to your organization.

There are groups in the underworld that are not targeting the Empress, and it's not due to a lack of capabilities.

OOGM: That was a really nice Persuasion check. It shouldn't be too cryptically vague.

I'll make it worth your while, fifty credits and the bonus of then you won't see us again and if it pans out I'll put in a word to discorage any more of these ruffians from contacting you again."

Stent could sense Halon's frustration, and Stent began to show it in a frown.

"Brothels," he muttered to Halon. That was one of the last places he wanted to be in right now. Maybe these ones were cleaner than the norm, being nearby an area that catered to higher class citizens...

"I see your point. Perhaps one of the many visitors have told the females of ill repute some interesting things in the heat of passion, but I do not like the idea of paying credits for the possibility of learning something."

He looked at Halon and shrugged his shoulders. "We will go to a brothel, see what we can get. If it is not promising, we will get out."

Markus looked from Boz to the CorSec officer with something approaching appreciation. He'd planned to use the Lorrdian as a humanoid lie detector all along, but he honestly hadn't expected it to work this well. Maybe there was some talent buried in this agent after all.

However, the man from CorSec clearly didn't want to discuss what he'd just told them in any detail, and Markus didn't want to push his luck. Instead, he decided to try a different approach.

"Very well. We'll leave discussion of the Empress for now. However, we are not only here to speak to you. With your permission, I'd like to perform a search in your databanks."

He nodded in reply. Halon had ceded the decision making responsibility to Kannat in the vague hope that he might be able to come up with something more inspired than any of his suggestions had been. No such luck.

He looked around and started toward the nearest available taxi.

The man in front of the two agents was helping them, albeit in a rather cryptic manner. Markus decided to see if he'd consider helping them in a more direct manner.

"Very well. We'll leave discussion of the Empress for now. However, we are not only here to speak to you. With your permission, I'd like to perform a search in your databanks."

To most outside observers, the older man's face was one of perfect calm. But to the two agents, his eyes spoke differently, a flash of insight and a faint tremor of unease. Markus Carfax's reputation had preceded him.

"What exactly is it you're looking for?" he asks, his voice still pleasantly calm.

OOGM: Nice work on the Perception checks with for Markus and Boz.

    Behind the Blue Nova Cantina

Ryn started to speak to the back of the retreating man, before making an observation. The entire reason the agents had brought the device was that so they could for outsiders to listen in on any conversations. The bartender was officially outside the bubble, and thus wasn't even able to make out what the Balosar agent was talking about. Not that he seemed to be paying attention anyways. Agent Solass walked out of the bubble to repeat his offer.

The human waved a hand dismissively, not even bothering to turn around.

"I'm no infochant. And even if I was, fifty credits wouldn't even buy you a blaster to end your misery with in this city" he said, as he re-entered the cantina.

It was then Ryn made a second observation. While the Disruption was excellent at keeping the conversation in, it was an equally choice piece of machinery for keeping external noise out. In this case, the agent picked up something that neither Joss Vendu nor Ruana Trebond could notice from inside the bubble.

    Footsteps on the rooftop.

    Moving away.

    Quickly.

OOGM: Well, three perceptive agents for five isn't half-bad. Ryn did excellent, Ruana and Joss... less so.

Ruana was currently more focused on listening in the Force for any signs of trouble around them, while also trying not to project her presence in any noticeable way. Thus, her attention to the conversation was less than perfect. A few details stuck in her mind, things that would no doubt leap out at her when she thought more about it later, but she had not the concentration to follow these things up at the moment.

There seemed to be something out there, beyond the bubble. She tensed almost imperceptibly and turned her attention that way.

Now this was interesting. Markus had expected some reaction from the CorSec officer when he'd asked to look through the organisations' databanks- you didn't let a notorious hacker, even a reformed one, into your files without some protest- but he hadn't been quite expecting this.

"What exactly is it you're looking for?"
The older humanoid asked, the momentary flash of panic in his eyes betraying his level tone.

"I should have thought that was obvious." Markus replied. "We are looking for information about the Empress. I'm sure that in all your records, there will be something useful."

Stent could not help but let our a nervous laugh at Halon's question about his home world.

"Oh, I am from there unfortunately. I hope my family does not catch wind that I will be there. They are the last group of beings that I would want to deal with right now. I would take insurrectionists any day."

He realized that he was clenching his teeth as he ended his sentence. Embarrassed by his lack of professionalism, he regained his composure. "On the plus side, I still have friends there, a couple that may be useful to us."

Stent was about to raise his hand for a taxi when his commitment gave way. "Wait a minute." He turned to Halon. "We are dealing with a vessel here. We want to know what is going on with that vessel. Where are the people who would know such things located? The spaceport, where the freighters are along with the obligatory smugglers. Why are we wasting our time here? These upper-class snobs only care if their brandy is neat or on the rocks."

He spoke with more certainty. "We are dealers in fine art and historical artifacts. We are funding a heist on the Tantive Gallery of Progressive Art. We need to ferry our goods from Tantive IV to Sullust, where we want it placed on board the Empress. We are not on the Empress, but we do know that it is going to our destination of Zeltros. We have someone on the inside that is already under our pay to handle the transfer on Sullust to the Empress and to watch over the goods. We just need the transport in between, and what better than Corellians? And if they do not know anything about smuggling activities on the Empress, then I do not know who would. Agree?"

Sound beyond the disruption bubble wouldn't register to those inside it's confines essentially creating a double blind effect, so as Joss Vendu leaned against the waste bin near the Cantina door, he couldn't hear the footsteps from the roof but could decipher Ryn's hand motions for the same effect. One target. Fleeing. Rooftop.

The agent shifted to the large rectangular waste container that stood almost as tall as himself, vaulted himself on top of it, and upward still grasping for addition purchase in scaling the side of the Blue Nova in attempt to reach the edge of the roof with the help of a window sill above the door frame.

Between Ruana's gaze and Ryn's gesturing, all three of the agents seemed to have been clued in to the retreating presence of the eavesdropper.

Ryn moved down the alleyway in pursuit, listening to get a better mental picture of the retreating spy. Aside from the rapid footfalls that marked the target as a human-sized and human-shaped being in a hurry, he could also make out the rustling flap of some sort of large cloak, and the clattering jangle of a few objects that seemed to shake every time the spy took a step (or, as he realized, listening to the gaps in the noise- a leap). As he moved, he looked for an easier way up to the rooftops, before spotting a fire escape ladder on the opposite side of the alleyway, hanging a little under two meters off the ground. With a running start, it should be easy enough for the agent grab hold, climb up it, and jump over to the neighboring rooftop to continue the pursuit.

Meanwhile, Joss Vendu decided to do things his own way in a surge of athleticism, vaulting the waste bin and easily scrambling up the side of the building. From the rooftop, he could see the back of the spy's billowing cloak, a full building between them as the being headed eastwards to the edge of Blue Sector.

The CorSec officer once again studied the slicer in silence, again involved in some sort of internal debate. The silence seemed to drag on for an eternity before he finally broke it.

    "This way."

He once again led the pair through CorSec headquarters, the empty halls surprisingly devoid of people. Finally, he ushered them into a medium-sized office, locking the door behind them. The room itself was modestly furnished, a desk with a computer terminal, several shelves of files both electronic and physical, and a set of four chairs, the room modestly decorated with some sort of flowering fern-like plant, and a small black statue of a Spukama (a feline creature kept as a housepet in many Corellian households).

The older man moved to the terminal, working at it for a few minutes before handing the seat over to the MI5 slicer.

"You have access to our non-classified information. Be warned that if you compromise our security in any matter... you will not exit this building as a free man."

Something tells you that it probably wouldn't take too much effort for the CorSec officer to keep you here.

What he could see of the cloaked figure let Joss know he was pursuing a bipedal humanoid and that he had some ground to make up as well. A slight smile crept across his features as he willed his legs to hasten his pace into a jump to the next rooftop. Vendu was counting on being able to keep up the demanding pace longer than his quarry while Ruana and Ryn tried to head the being off ahead.

He spoke so his ear comm could pick him up while he ran, "Visual on suspect. Headed for the Blue Sector. East."

For a moment he considered his holdout blaster, but quickly dismissed it on two accounts: one because Boz hadn't given the ok and two the last thing they needed was an obvious trail of Corsec in their wake.

Joss focused on keeping himself upright and steady reminding himself to close the distance as much as he could, then keep up when the cloaked being would surely wear down.

Halon nodded. "The word smuggler is practically a synonym for Corellian. Though I think our efforts thus far have already proven that you do not need to be especially talented to get contraband past the vaunted security of the Empress. All the same...a trip to the spaceport might conceivably be worthwhile."

He slipped into a waiting taxi and informed the cabbie of their destination. His earlier curiosity about Zeltros had seemed to summon some unpleasant memories for Stent, which left Halon with an uneasy feeling of guilt. He had put the man in a position where he'd felt it necessary to denounce his own homeworld, a concept Halon could barely understand and hoped he never would.

A simple search of the information available for anything relating to the cruise ship or its owner. As the spy fled, the agents pursued, leaping across gaps in the rooftops as they sought to keep the man in sight. The distance between them wasn't changing by much, as none of them had the room for a dead sprint, and the rooftops had been relatively free of obstructions. But all of that was about to change.

As the two agents leaped across another gap and onto the next roof, their suspect was making his way to the next building, a restaurant with an open-air rooftop cafe. With a six-meter gap between the two buildings, the cloaked figure had opted to dart across part of the narrow arcade that connected the two structures. As the agents continued their approach, he wove past a surprised waiter, knocking the gray-skinned being to the floor and sending his trays scattering, glasses shattering and rolling as they dumped their contents on the ground. Diners rose to their feet, one well-intentioned Trandoshan making a grab for the intruder, only to have the cloaked figure whirl beneath his outstretched arm as he made an escape.

With their target rolling his way past tables and patrons, this just might be the opportunity they need to close some of the distance between them.

As he ran in pursuit as they crossed over an arcade toward a crowded open air resturant, he got an idea as the stuff crashed and fell. Quickly motioning to Joss not to follow directly behind him he made a running jump to crouch land onto one of the trays, if it worked right in sliding he might be able to grab the individuals waist and bring him down, or maybe just speed him closer. If not, he most likely would fall flat on his face and too far behind, leaving the snatch up to Joss.

    Coronet Rooftops

Darting forward, Ryn went into action with a plan that would require cleverness, daring, agility and luck in order to allow him to catch up with his quarry. As he made the leap for the restaurant, he realized that the plan would probably require a significant degree of athletic power. Maybe it was the fact that he had to dodge out of Joss Vendu's way as the agent slowed to let him pass, maybe it was the way the ground dropped out and the gap stretched before him, maybe it was the gritty rooftop surface that shifted as he pressed forward, but for whatever reason, as he attempted to jump the gap, he found that his jump wasn't enough, as he fell towards the streets below.

It wasn't as though Vendu was doing much better. As the agent was passed by the Balosar, he too made a flying leap for the restaurant rooftops, and he too found himself coming up short. Though in his case, he flailed out with his arm, desperately grabbing onto the ledge before hauling himself up.

The ground was approaching quickly, so Ryn had to act even quicker. As he hit the ground, he moved, flowing into a roll to break the his fall. Whirling as he moved, he rolled out of the alleyway and onto his feet on the street outside. He may not be directly behind the suspect any more, but at least the sparsely populated sidewalks gave him room enough to sprint. It could have been worse. He'd fallen two stories and had barely dirtied his cloak.

Up on the rooftops, Joss Vendu found himself faced with more bewildered stares from the dining patrons. Still, a job was a job, and he had to catch up with the spy as fast as he could. From table to table he jumped, knocking aside plates and glasses as he tried to close ground with the suspect. He hadn't quite caught the spy, though as he hit the rooftop of the next building, he found that the distance between them had closed to a little over ten meters.

From the ground level, Ryn dashed east down the sidewalk that ran alongside the road. They were coming upon a north-south road- according to the signs, this was the intersection of Ashford Road and East Blue Avenue. With a road to the south, a road to the east, and Joss Vendu to the west, the only way the suspect could go would be north.

Realizing the same thing, Joss headed north-east, intending to close the distance and cut their target off. But the spy did something unexpected- he leaped into the air- plunging towards the traffic nearly three stories down...

The frantic chattering now coming back from the front seat confirmed that their driver was still in one piece, as well.

His immediate thought was that they had been involved in an accident with another speeder, but as Halon swiveled around for signs of the collision, he was astonished to see a pole vaulter propel himself upward in the middle of the street behind them, resulting in no small eruption of chaos as traffic scattered to avoid him. Evidently that had been what hit them.

"Can you believe that maniac, Stent?" he asked in disbelief, turning back again. Ahead of them he now made out Ryn, still in hot pursuit of their mystery suspect.

"Driver, turn us around and follow that man and you will be generously rewarded."
