    Hello there!

Apologies for my mysterious disappearance. Sorry to hear about the mugging, hope all is well.

Well, where do I start? My favorite part was the battle scene which was utterly convincing and perfectly balanced. And Palpy got his commupance at last.

I can't remember when exactly I found this story, but I'm glad I did.

Wonderful and thanks for the patience!

I have no words to describe this, and not just the update but the whole story, and I promise that it?s not a bad thing, I?ve said it before and I can say it again, I love it so much.

This update was so amazing, and I really hope that Anakin will wake up soon but I have the feeling that he still have some things to work though before that can happen. It was a very sweet moment between little Ani and adult Anakin.

    I hope you are ok.

Great update. I could see myself standing there watching Ani carve away.

    Hello, my friend:

    XXV-XXVIII

Is Nejaa Halcyon related to Valin Horn? The Skywalkers, especially father and son are suffering a grave case of denial. Anakin that he?s mastered his inner darkness; Luke, that continuing to lie is helping anything?

Padmé now knows the truth, WHY does everyone insist on continuing to live a lie? Don?t they see that it?s driving Ani away?

Despite how much the lying bothers me, I'm holding on to the hope that either Obi or Luke will come to their senses and explain everything to Papa...I also hope Ani and Obi's relationship is salvagable and the twins return to the future soon...I have a bad feeling Ben may die before this is over...his heart is nearly dead as is, will his body soon follow?

    Grim this is...On a positive note: You're crafting the story well. :) [face_frustrated] @};- :_|

Yeah! You probably interpreted it correctly. LOL, I'm a big Harry Potter fan. I love HP/SS & HP/DM. I can't wait till July '07 for Book 7 (The Deathly Hallows) even thou I didn't really like 5&6.

Sorry, that I didn't respond to your note sooner, but when you updated so soon I went straight to the STORY POST which I was rereading today and found your note.

Sorry it took me so long to review? been extra busy here. [face_blush]

I was sincerely hoping that Anakin would still be alive? he?d just have to be or there?d be no point to the rest of this fic!

That description of Palpatine?s corpse was absolutely disgusting? which means you wrote it well.=D=

Obi-Wan shook his head sadly. ?I don?t know. He may, but he might choose to not. Everything depends on what he sees? there.?

Ooh? that part sent shivers down my spine- in a good way! I?m feeling very nervous for Anakin right now?[face_worried]

An interesting twist? little Anakin did?t know who big Anakin was. (that sounds funny, but whatever). The part where Anakin talked about Watto beating his mum? that was terrible.

?I think she will be proud of you. You are a good boy, Ani.?

That part was particularly haunting.

I loved the part where they stuck together as a family?[face_love]

Wonderful post! It was just as delighting on the second read as it was on the first! [:D]

Ani now knows a vital truth: that Palpy is Sidious; can finding out about his children be far behind? It?s neat how you employed personification to the rainstorm! Whoa, talk about quite a way to finally realize the truth that?s been staring you in the face for the better part of a year: while a hairsbreadth away from murdering your own son at saber point! Now that Papa knows, can everyone start healing at?long, long last? Please???

Wow, Anakin is full of himself! Yes, Obi and the twins shouldn?t have lied which I?ve said from the beginning, however?all three love him terribly! Will he ever sort through and move beyond his wild temper and possessiveness? Please, say yes?I want a happy ending! I don?t understand?why is everyone taking responsibility for Anakin?everyone except himself? It seems to me that Luke, Liea, and Obi all blame themselves for Ani?s Fall?when it was his possessiveness and manic determination that truly caused it. I?m not trying to be harsh my friend, but I?m truly puzzled.

Every single one of [Obi?s grey hairs] is Anakin?s achievement?Priceless and SO true! :D

Mustafar?oh, the DUEL may yet occur, hmmm? I hope not. I really hope Anakin soon realizes he has a large stake and claim regarding the current situation in the galaxy. Where is Sidious during all this? Up to no good, I?ll bet. I?m ready for the Skywalkers to have THAT chat, now.

Well done and may everyone?s suffering soon end!

Hello, Elena! I can't sleep, so here's my latest thoughts on CoF...

    XXXIII-XXXIV

What would he give to see Obi-Wan laugh again? That?s a very sweet sentiment for Ani to have. I must admit, I thought the lad was so wrapped up in seeing the others? flaws (which all of them have to various degrees, even Ani) that I?d nearly given up hope on him retaining any remembrances of the joy and friendliness they?d shared over the years. I?ve felt defeated, somewhat like how Old Ben was regarding Ani still being somewhere deep within the core of Vader?Glad you proved me wrong, friend! Hope Ani is saved along with the others! Whoa, Ani?s view of love is SOOO distorted! Personally, I?ve always liked Vader?not the vicious killer and imperial tyrant, but?I?ve always empathized with him?in some form or other he was a slave his entire life, which is heartbreaking. RotJ is my fave film because of the beautiful father/son story of how love can redeem all.

?Sometimes deception is necessary,? Luke retorted sadly, his shoulders slumping slightly. ?Especially if you do it to protect those you love.? Can?t agree, lying is bad?. period. Though some share his rationale. Obi?s eyes dead?has he officially begun bridging the gap between the energetic and playful Obi-Wan of youth and the heartsick Old Ben that DIED at his brother?s hand? Tell me its not so! :_|

Obi slicing Ani in pieces (which was entirely wrong) wasn?t what made Ani, Vader?IMO, it was when he asked for the power to stop death at Palpy?s feet. However, Anakin also screamed: I HATE you! And attempted to kill Obi on Mustafar?so they both messed up badly.

Regarding ep IV: I?ve never agreed with Ben allowing himself to be cut down. That doesn?t mean I?d condone him killing Vader, either. Yet, until now, I had no idea why he just stood there stoically as he became one with the Force?I think it may have been his perceived final proof that his Padawan and brother wasn?t redeemable? That?s quite sad! :_| What are your thoughts?

Interesting, I?m having memories of another Mark Hamill film, Time Runner, in which the adult witnessed his own birth, weirdness. Luke and Bail together, cool! What?s this? More deception? Haven?t you seen that it reaps destruction, Obi? Fake Padmé?s death?I don?t think it was fake in the film?.ummm?Could this mean the adult twins are going to live in the past? That?s intriguing but puzzling. Hey, nice to see Tarkin, I?ve always liked him too! :D

Even though I don?t agree with the concept, I think Lucas always intended Anakin to Fall?so his Tale as a whole would be one of seeking and ultimately being granted the gift of Forgiveness. Interesting, that the kids have settled on a backwater planet. Are Bail and Obi going to stay with them? Will General Kenobi make an appearance?

I?m very curious now. How will this all unfold? Will Alderaan explode? Will the Death Star? Will Bail, Obi, Padmé, Ani, and Wilhuff live or die? Bravo! Well written and thought-provoking.

    [:D] @};-

PS: Thanks so much for the review of UF! Looking forward to the next one, my friend.

Well I am grateful that you posted sooner than expected though it was so good that now I just want more! That was a great chapter, I loved the split between those who love Anakin and Anakin's trip into the force. I can't wait to find out so many things now though, like whether Anakin will live or not, and whether he will be able to lose the suit if he does survive and how he will react to his familiy if he does survive. I know I have to wait but it is so hard!

I'm really sorry to hear about the mugging, I hope you are ok!

Wow, what a solemn tone this has taken on! Is Anakin going to survive? Is the Empire really done for? Are the twins going home?

Somehow, I can't help but think that when Anakin talked to Ani, he was talking to the boy who would one day become the man in the suit, as if Anakin had entered between the two parallels, and gone back in time to Ani's childhood days as well... Just a thought!

Hello Elena/CrazyAni! Here I come again with my 'wonderful' reply. Oh, and don't worry - I'll disturb you soon with my project.

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear that someone attacked you and tried to mug - must have been really terrifying experience. I hope you'll get over it, though, and have the courage to walk alone again.

About Dust jacket...I never really thought you looked like that. Believe me, it wasn't a bad surprise at all! I just thought you looked so different. Mind can do some nasty tricks to you, as you may know.

Aww, you liked inventing nicknames to me! I've never had nicknames in RL, Eeva is such a bad name when it comes to inventing nicknames. My recent icon is not good for nicknames, I assume? I'll change it someday, but now I'll just have to keep it. It's so adorable. :p

Geez. I'll go to the story now, before you get bored and stop reading! This update was really beautiful and comtamplative. It had so many (but not too many!) emotions and deep thoughts.

He enjoyed the little things that seem insignificant when one feels them every day. Only by losing them can one learn to appreciate them wholly.

Touché. One of the 'bitter' truths of life. And we all will notice it.

Hmm...I loved Padmé's thoughts about victory. Somehow it was so touching in its beauty and naïvety. How people easily think that victory is always good, bright and hopeful thing. Well, if we think about victory in war etc. - how many times it is bright and sunny? Usually it is full of blood, fire and darkness.

I just LOVED the part where Anakin was talking with little Ani. The descriptions were so beautiful and grand, Anakin's soul-searching was just awesome...Excellent job with it. I enjoyed very much.

Palpatine really is dead? Yes, yes! It's great! Anakin's unconscious? I'm sure Anakin will make it. I hope he will make it. I KNOW he will make it. ;) Well, maybe I just hope. It's you, nevertheless, and you surely can do some evil things with this story. All those cliffies and Anakin becoming Vader...I'll never forget those. [face_mischief] And I'll never stop thinking how cunningly you wrote those things.

I'll have to go now, but if something pops in to my mind, I'll come and add it here. Beautiful, wonderful update, my friend. I'm looking forward to read more, but don't stress about the next update. It'll be great, I'm sure. BTW, if you update between 16th and 23th day, I won't be here to leave my strange (yes they are!) replies. I'll travel abroad again.

    Take care!

    At last, I'm caught up!

    35-40

It?s good to see that Vader is indeed conflicted?maybe all isn?t lost. However, it?s still troubling that Ani sees everyone but himself as a traitor. His hate and pride have truly blinded him to his own status as one. He may also be seeking to embrace being a Sith because he doesn?t see the possibility of Forgiveness as possible?I hope it is, however?I hope Ani admits his own complicity in this mess and still has to work through the ramifications of his deeds.

Creepy? It looks like Bail and some of the others may yet die. I still don?t get why everyone seems to completely dismiss Obi?s caution and misgivings. His nearly hopeless state is pitiable and born of heartbreak not maliciousness. Luke?s talk with Obi was very pointed. He?s right, a killer is a killer. Sadly, this they all share. Now, just a minute?57, (the age Obi died) isn?t old?besides, he?s considerably younger in CoF?Luke ought to be more respectful of his elder.

*Stares at Crazy Ani in amazement* Ani finally understands that the others love him! *cheers* The babies helped free their father of Darkness *cheers louder* Palpy can?t torment the Clan anymore. :_| *Happy tears :_|

Papa won?t die again will he? He has so much to live for! If he repents, Ani may yet know love and peace!

Impressive?everyone I named previously is still living! The chat Anakin had with Ani was priceless. I?m glad I stuck with this, it?s quite a ride! I echo the others when I say: More, please! =D= :D :_| @};-

    Well done, my friend! [:D]

SuperSaiyaMan12: Hi! No, everything happened within Anakin?s mind, with some help from the Force. You?ll find out in the last chapter what will happen to Luke and Leia when they return to the future. And as for cloning cells, they aren?t relevant to this universe one reason being that Anakin?s love and the light side of the Force pretty much destroyed Palpatine?s spirit. Even if he didn?t, I think there is always a limit how far you can go, and, frankly, cloning cells do sound far-fetched to me, SW or not. Thank you for reading!

Veloz: Hey! Love your new icon. ;) Thank you for your kind words about the nearly-mugging. And now back onto the story: my dear, you know that I love writing cliffies and tear-jerking scenes. Yes, I?d love to write some? but it doesn?t necessarily mean that I will. My inspiration is active ? it?s the time I?m having problems with. Thank you so much for reading, as always!

Talon_Kenobi: Thank you! There is still something left for Luke and Leia to stay in the past for ? you?ll see what.

Jazz_Skywalker: Hi! Thank you for your kind words ? yes, (nearly-)mugging is an experience I wouldn?t want to happen to anyone, but I had luck in ?unluck?. Back to the story, I?m glad that you still like it, and Ani/Anakin conversation was the scene I fretted over the most. Thank you bunches for reading!

Idrelle_Miocovani: Hello, my friend! *looks at the reply* Wow! Thank you so much for such a kind review! Well, everyone of us has different reactions to dead people. I?m frozen and numb, you run away, but Leia ? she?s witty, and more glad to see Palpy dead than a Force-sensitive should be. Don?t think of pig as of pig ? I know that it hardly helps, but you can convince yourself that it?s a pie? Now you made me curious how you end it in TTA! You?ll see the final resolution of CoF in a couple of chapters. Yes, the war is something sick and horrible; better don?t even get me started on it, otherwise I could type hundred pages about it? You?ll see whether Anakin will be paralysed or not. Just a small hint: I?m already writing about paralysed Padmé in another story, so paralysed Anakin, whom I love more than I should, would be a little bit repetitive coming from the same author. Again, thank you so much for reading and for leaving such a kind feedback!

zozobozo: The Anakin/Ani encounter happened within Anakin?s mind. You?ll see whether Anakin will be paralysed or not! Thank you so much for reading, my dear!

EGKenobi: Thank you so much, it was the part I fretted over the most. :)

randomangel22: Hi! Oh boy, I didn?t ?recognise? you first ? I?m so used to your Padmé icon, and I was quite baffled to see you switch to Anakin! [face_laugh] Yes, the Anakin/Anakin conversation helped Anakin sort out and analyse his emotions, which eventually led him to his downfall. Thank you so much for reading, and about your kind words about the RL stuff.

ROTSfan: Yes, Anakin is quite undecided now whether he can/should come back or not. Seeing himself as a child, the beginnings of the conflict he had already then, certainly helped him sort out his emotions. And, I lllllove devoted Padmé! :D Thanks a lot for reading!

HandmaidenVeme: Seeing his child self is the first step he had taken to the path for an answer; if the sought answer satisfies him, he will wake up. Thank you so much for reading, and for your kind words about the mugging!

obsessedwithSW: Obi adores the little twins, but still, he?d be glad to hand over the babysitter?s duties to their father ? if he wakes up. I?m so relieved that you liked the Ani/Ani scene! Thank you for reading.

FitJedi: Anakin will wake up only if he finds the right answer? Didn?t mean to sound a la Morpheus in ?Matrix?. Thank you so much for reading!

Darth-Semians: Anakin?s journey into his mind will go on for a while till he finds what he seeks, and confronts himself with the things he needs to face first before he wakes up. No, I?m not the fan of Americ

    Hello, everyone!

Predictably, it took me longer to update than usual... but I'm here, even though a couple of weeks later than I'd have liked. Speaking of time and posting dates, it's been more than a year since I've started posting "Change of Fate" here, on JCF. Actually, I wanted to update this story on the 23d February - the day when 'everything began' - but, as always, DRL intervened... I'm shocked, thrilled and honoured that even after a year, people are still reading this.

So, thank you so very much for reading! I hope that you enjoy this chapter. My aoplogies for the length - I got carried away.[face_blush]

There're only two or three chapters left after it. :)

    Chapter Forty-One

    Innocence

A purple sun set slowly over the dark water. Night was falling, and its warm, gentle breath stroked Anakin?s face in a wave of wonderful aromas, dishevelling his hair. The forest was a dark, silent wall around the lake, casting shadows on the grey depths.

This beautiful scenery looked astonishingly like Varykino ? the dreamlike place where he and Padmé had found each other. The still lake, the crimson path of sun on the water, the overwhelming fragrance of nocturnal flowers?this place had the same sense of sheer beauty, the same feeling of innocence. It was a place that invoked many memories, memories that brought more sadness? and shame.

Overwhelmed by a strange impulse, Anakin undressed quickly and stepped into the lake. The sand beneath his feet was soft; the dark water embraced him tenderly, washing away the dirt and shame. He swam onwards, leaving behind the silent forest, without any concrete purpose, or knowledge where he was going to. The touch of water was warm and soothing. Could it wash away the blood of his victims from his hands? Could it purify him?

In the distance, something white floated on the water. Looking closer, Anakin realised what it was ? a water lily, a lonely flower close to the left shore. It rested peacefully between two large leaves, looking amazingly frail and pure next to the roots of dark, mighty trees. Anakin swam towards the flower, the tiny drops on his bare arms shimmering in the purple sun.

The flower was only inches away from him. The warm night breathed upon the lily, letting its faint, wonderful scent envelop Anakin?s head like a hazy cloud. Very cautiously, Anakin stretched out his hand to touch the white petals, his breath short and uneven.

For a fleeting moment, he could feel the thin softness of the flower against his trembling hand? but then the flower fell in a stream of white dust into his outstretched palm. A barely audible, unnatural sigh rolled over the dark water, and then everything was quiet. Anakin blinked. The small pile of white dust was the only thing that remained from the lily?s beauty and innocence.

Dark indigo crawled slowly over the arching sky, and purple and orange streaks on the horizon faded slowly. Breathless, Anakin turned his palm, and the white dust fell with agonising slowness onto the water. The remnants of the once beautiful flower drifted away sadly, the moon behind the gauzed cloud watching them depart. The soft music of the lake didn?t seem soothing anymore?it chided him gently for taking yet another life and beauty. Everything he touched withered and died?

?Anakin,? a musical voice called by his ear. A small hand touched his shoulder.

Anakin closed his eyes. He knew that voice; he knew that touch. Those, too, were the things he had lost, the things that were too pure and precious for his deadly touch. But it couldn?t possibly be her? everything was too surreal to be true? It was only an illusion, a trick of his mind.

?Ani,? the voice persisted gently. The small, warm hand stroked his wet hair, tracing the contours of his closed lids, caressing his cheeks.

How much he wished that this illusion would disappear... Her voice, her touch, the soft light of her Force signature invoked many memories that better remained locked forever in his heart. Those memories were phantoms from

Well, I haven't read the post yet, but I just wanted to comment and say I am here, I am reading, and I am interested. I feel awful about my lurkerish tendencies, and I always think about commenting, but then I never do. In part it's simply because I'm lazy and have nothing constructive to say, but it's also partially something along the lines of internet claustrophobia, if that makes any sense at all. There are just so readers of this story, I feel like I'm getting lost! I understand how you feel, not knowing if I'm really interested or not, as I've had the same expierence, so I wanted to assure you that I do absolutely love this story, and always will.

Okay, I'll come back and edit when I've finished the post.

EDIT: Okay, I'm back now! That was beautiful. It was really touching, seeing Anakin's insecurity about returning, and having him talk to his mother. I could really feel all the emotions in this post, from Padme's anger and longing, to Obi-Wan's guilt and confusion. Plus the scene with Little!Luke was absolutely adorable. Anyway, I love this story, and plan on sticking with it until its far too close ending. So please do keep me on the PM list!

Anakin really needs to talk to someone who kind of knows what he was going through, and how to atone...Kenshin Himura. Yeah, that's it. He's perfect.

You see, Kenshin was a Hitokiri, or 'Person Slayer', in the Bakamatsu-Meiji Revolution of Japan. He slowly lost himself in all the death he caused, with each kill, the Hitokiri took more and more control of his body. Then, he faced a young man named Kiyosato, who was so determined to live for his fiancee, he inflicted the first wound Kenshin recieved throughout the entire conflict, a vertical slash on his right cheek. Kenshin however, killed him. Then, after facing a Shogunate assassin and killing him, he met the 'Dark Beauty' Yukishiro Tomoe. She became his 'sheath', quelling the madness that the Hitokiri personality was bringing. To make a story short, Kenshin fell in love with her and vice versa, though she was originally helping the Shogunate to assassinate him to avenge Kiyosato. She was kidnapped by Shogunate Assassins, and she stopped an attack that was going to kill a severally weakened Kenshin...by jumping right into the path of Kenshin's katana. Her wakizashi knife then inflicted the horizontal scar on his left cheek...creating an X.

Kenshin resolved never to kill again once the war was over. He took up a sakabatou, or reverse-bladed Katana, to accomplish that goal.

A good person to talk some sense into Anakin, and help him repent and atone?

Oh, and the Cloned Palpatine thing...it happened in the 1993 comic series, Dark Empire.
