Disney Sequel Trilogy reminds me Very much to Legends Legacy Comics Era The First Order is Similar to Fel Empire i know Fel Empire are Good but both Empires are Similar to me and Fel Empire Stormtroopers are Similar to First Order Stormtroopers Rey is Similar to Ania Solo and Finn with Jao Assam both Finn and Jao were part of their respective Empires Jao is an Imperial Knight and is Force Sensitive Finn can be Force Sensitive too and i find Ben Solo/Kylo Ren to be Similar to Cade Skywalker in Legacy Comics Luke Skywalker is a Force Ghost and Talks with Cade Similar how Luke Force Ghost Talks with Rey in the Sequels Movies
Disney is just a Legends EU Remix! Though, where have they been truly original? I mean they do good, great even at times, but what truly original have they done? Aphra is just Indy/Belloq StarWarsified.
If you're going to paint with that broad of a brush, honestly, yeah, you're going to find current canon as lacking originality. (At the "Aphra and Indy are the same character because they're both archaeologists" level, plenty of distinction is going to get missed.) And yes, current canon references the EU a lot - that's due in part to the influence of Pablo, in part because it's what many of the present creators grew up with, and in part because nostalgia is the fuel of Star Wars (as much as we like to pretend it's not).
I suspect that in George’s mind, Sate Pestage from the early ESB scripts and Mas Amedda are the same character.
For some reason Kanan Jarrus reminds me of an adapted or canonized version of Rahm Kota Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren remind me of Sora and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts another franchise where Disney characters appear the animation of Rebels for some reason reminds me of Kingdom Hearts games Hera reminds me of Rianna Saren from Star Wars Lethal Alliance and Jan Ors Omega from Bad Batch reminds me of Cindel Towani from the Ewoks movies All the non Skywalker protagonists from Filoni shows remind me of the Droids animated series the first series where random nobodies are the protagonists Rey and Jaina Solo are similar same with Ahsoka and Callista I think Rex is Alpha-17 but a canonized version
How did I forget Gilramos Libkath when I posted in this thread two years ago. The dude from Episode II who absolutely was not Rune Haako (and was possibly even Lott Dod) until Lucasfilm were like "No you sluts that's Rune Haako" and we were just kinda like "Wait, if he can be Rune Haako even though his face is different, why can't Agen Kolar just be Eeth Koth and Stass Allie just be Adi Gallia" and Lucasfilm were like "No you boobs there just happen to be these unrelated Jedi at Geonosis who look exactly like Eeth Koth and Adi Gallia and also they're going to coincidentally take their places on the Jedi Council" and then they had to get a third actress for Episode III and at that point they were just like "Screw it she's Stass Allie we're not coming up with a damn triplet" anyway I've always found that weird.
Reading something I wrote a while ago brought this thread to my mind: is there any evidence to suggest that Daala's role as a political antagonist specifically in FOTJ was "inherited" from someone else? I have the distinct impression that TPTB did not expect the fandom's unanimous reaction that installing her as President of the Galaxy - and more importantly, the heroes being okay with it - was utterly insane and backpedaled hastily in response. But I also suspect that, while FOTJ was certainly not well-planned in advance, there still would've an antagonistic politician character opposed to the Jedi no matter what.
You mean Daala was chosen instead of another character planned for the role? As the "better" choice? Not many females that fit that would come to mind. If any at all.
it should have been Niathal. OR Fyor Rodan. And yes I don't think they expected people to hate Daala, which is weird, honestly.
That's an interesting question. Nothing about FOTJ beyond "Luke and Ben go on an Odyssey" was planned until probably around when Allston was already halfway done the first book --- and their quest to visit all the same Force-using sects as Jacen didn't necessarily have to be because they were exiled by an antagonistic Chief of State. They could have willingly set off for any number of reasons, so it's conceivable that Daala wasn't a key part of the authors'/story group's original (again, very loose and poorly-thought-out) plan. Maybe Allston was the one who decided to roll with the Daala hate by using her as the catalyst for the Odyssey, and then that germinated into her larger role in the series. Then again, out of all three authors, Allston was the only one who bizarrely tried to write Daala sympathetically, so I dunno. For whatever it's worth, Traviss wanted Niathal to be the new Chief of State and never intended for Daala to be redeemed. I feel like I remember reading that Daala as Chief of State was specifically Denning's idea but I don't have a link.
Yeah Traviss has some good points there. I mean she (Traviss) is generally decent to good if kept away from Mandos.
