I agree. Besides, three lefties in the lineup would cause a lot of teams lots of headaches!

    From Cubs.com

MESA, Ariz. -- Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood is sidelined indefinitely because of a minor strain of his right triceps, team officials said Thursday. His status is day-to-day.
Wood has made three Cactus League appearances, but has not pitched since Sunday. In that game, he apparently tweaked his triceps because of bad footing on the pitching mound at HoHoKam Park. Wood apparently tried to extend his stride past a hole in the mound and felt it in his arm.

"He had a little strain in his triceps on the posterior, on the bottom, and not where he was cut [during surgery]," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. "We'll give him a couple days and let Mark [O'Neal, Cubs athletic trainer] work on him. I'm not anticipating any long-term difficulty. He'll skip the next couple days."

Wood, who is coming back from a partial tear of his right rotator cuff, has looked sharp this spring in his conversion from starter to reliever. He's thrown one inning in each of his three outings, and had been pitching every third day.

"Mark told me that [Wood] told him when he got done [on Sunday], he kind of extended longer with his stride," Hendry said. "Instead of taking a timeout and getting it fixed, he was striding past it to avoid the hole and felt a little strain under his arm. Hopefully, he'll be fine in a couple days."

I hate to agree with our estemmed manager, but in this case, perhaps its time that both Wood AND Prior retired! Wood has been hurt again, and Prior just doesn't seem to have the stuff that he used to.

If what I am hearing is correct Wood will probably be out till some time in May. CUT THE BUM and let him play catch with his kids. Now Prior, from what I am hearing, may not have the overpowering fastball he used to have, but has the potential to become another Maddox. We shall just have to wait and see.

No I agree. Wood and Prior should be dropped completely from MLB. They are both ****ing jokes. The only way I could possibly dislike them more is if they both went to the Yankees.

Greg Maddux and Mark Prior don't belong in the same sentence unless your saying Greg Maddux is better than Mark Prior in every which way...

Hard to believe that just only 3 years ago the Cubs were thought to have had the best rotation in the majors, with Prior & Wood as the anchors. So much faith was put into them that Matt Clement was let go & Maddux was brought in to be the 4th starter. Of course it didn't work out & Maddux essentially wasted his time in Chicago. I feel bad for him but the Cubs have done this for years with certain players. It reminds me of how every year they talked about Shawon Dunston's "potential" to be one of the best players in baseball. It never happened. There probably isn't a team dumb enough to trade for Prior/Wood but if they were cut I'd expect them to be picked up off the waiver wire. The Cubs should cut their losses with them, but they probably won't because of their salaries.

I was never a fan of Dunston either. Perhaps that is because my cousin said at the time that he was better than Ozzie Smith. After laughing my ass off and cleaning up the Coke I'd spit all over the house, I told her she was delusional.

That seems to be the general story with the Cubs prospects that don't pay off or letting go prospects who do extremely well when not at Wrigley(Greg Maddux,Lou Brock,Bruce Sutter)

Heard something yesterday on ESPN 2 that might be of interest to the board: Alex Rodriguez becomes eligable for Free Agency at the end of this season. A Rod is a great hitter and solid defensive infielder as well, and is thought highly of by Pinella. There is a possiblity that the Cubs MIGHT forgo signing Carlos Zambrano and use the money to sign A-Rod to a deal as a Cub. The though was that this was highly unlikely, but with the way the Cubs have been thinking of late, I thought that I would post this on the board, and see what people would think of this idea.

A-Rod is a piece of **** sellout who only cares about the money. The Cubs would be better off without him. I say form a team that has chemistry and forgo the egocentric superstars. They don't need another Sammy Sosa.

While I don't have anywhere near the negative opinion of A-Rod that Strilo clearly does, I think the Cubs would be better off sticking with Zambrano. For starters, their pitching staff is more questionable behind him, as Wood and Prior can't be counted on for anything anymore, and with Lee, Soriano, and Ramirez, I'd be less concerned about getting another bat.

That said, I think A-Rod would be a huge addition for any team.

Let him stay on the Yankees where he belongs. And yeah, the Cubs need to worry more about their pitching rotation.

A-Rod might be better at Shortstop than Izturis but I'd take Zambrano over A-Rod every time. Zambrano must not slip away, he is by far the best pitcher the Cubs have had in years.

Not to say I wouldn't mind having A-Rod on the Cubs roster, it's just I don't think it's a nessecity. If Mark Cuban or a better owner come into the scene then I'd say go for A-Rod, if not use all your pay roll to keep Zambrano

This isn't funny how the Cubs discussion thread has 144 posts while the White Sox thread only has 3. [face_plain] :p

Prolly cuz White Sox fans are too busy counting the months since they last won a World Series. Or lamenting about the other nine fingers without rings.

No it isn't funny, it's actually quite simple. The Chicago Cubs have more fans than the Chicago White Sox...

Why is Mark Prior still being considered for a pitching spot? And why is it a possibility that Angel Guzman may be sent back to the minors in favor of Kerry Wood? Angel has more than earned the spot. Prior needs to be sent to the minors as does Wood

From what I heard about Prior's performance against Maddux yesterday, its Prior who will probably be sent down to the minors for some more work. As for Guzman, the only time he seemed to pitch well was in one relief apperance last year. He got lit up but good in all his other apperances. He also seems to need more seasoning, perhaps more time at Iowa or at AA at least to start the season.
