Newport Beach, Calif., Feb. 23 ? Animator Chuck Jones, the man who brought Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig to life, has died. He was 89.

JONES WORKED on more than 300 animated films in a career that spanned more than 60 years. He won two Academy Awards as a director and received an honorary Oscar in 1996 for lifetime achievement.
Working at Warner Brothers, Jones helped bring to life some of the studio?s most recognizable characters.
Along with Bugs and Porky, he worked on the beep-beeping Road Runner and his hapless pursuer, Wile E-Coyote. He also drew Pepe le Pew, the romantic-minded skunk with the French accent.
Jones produced, directed and wrote the screenplay for the animated television classic ?Doctor Seuss? How the Grinch Stole Christmas.?

All the great animators are leaving us. In the last two years, Schulz, Hanna, and now Jones. So sad.

Very sad indeed. He was one of the greats. WB classic toons were the best... ever.

    On a lighter note:

Is it me, or does it seem in the past few years every legend I have respected has died?

Jack Lemmon, Walter Mathow, Carroll O'Conner, George Harrison, Alec Guinness, The Peanuts creater, and now Chuck Jones.

God rest his, and their soles :( :_|

No. That is very sad, however he lived a full creative life. What more could you ask for. I agree the best are leaving us.

    Rest in peace Chuck.

I don't mean to laugh, but you said "soles" as in the soles of the feet, instead of "souls."

But it is sad. Elmer Fudd ruled. So did all the rest of his characters. Chuck Jones = teh cool.

ST... I know what you mean. In the past year we've lost Joey ramone, Douglas Adams, George Harrison, and now Chuck Jones.

Christ, what's next, a car crash involving George Lucas, Stan Lee, and Matt Groening?

Every time a legend leaves the Earth, what this culture will be left with is a severe drought of talent. Mediocrity and sameness will forever reign supreme.

I suppose it's some consolation that the classics will remain for us. Let's hope the young ones who come after us will appreciate them as much as we do.

This is indeed a sad occasion, even though he did lead a long and productive life.

I live near the border of Newport Beach, about ten years ago i went there to his animation gallery, which was owned by his grand daughter. She was very friendly and polite, ( i was twelve and looking for a job there!) and took down my address. A little while later i got a print of the Cyote character with an autograph from Chuck Jones in smudgy pencil, it was a really nice thing, whether he did it for me specifically or not.

Maybe the cartoon network will run some of Chuck's classics..I mean just think of them..Bully for Bugs..Or Duck Amock..or Whats Opera Duck..or (my personal fave) The Rabbit of Seville..too many to name

Another legend, gone.... I'm certainly not the only one who grew up with the Looney Tunes and still cherishes those cartoons today. Rest in peace, Chuck, and thanks for all the great toons.

Can you remember which Warner Bros. cartoons were directed by him? I know at least three: "What's Opera, Doc?" "Duck Dodgers in the 24 and Half Century" and "Duck Amuck."
    They are all terrific.
