Great Post Patch! I for one have cut back drastically in my reading because of my opinion on the quality of the product. My interest has been maintained by continued construction of the timeline. If they take that away...the only card they can play is because it "improves the story-telling". Yeah...I've seen the steady "improvement". Add in the ever increasing price as strike 3...anybody want to buy a collection? ________ Good people of the board and boards like it everywhere...YOU are the gatekeepers...this universe is what it is today because of you...the days of innovation and excitement have long run their course in the typeset-for-profit. the ingenious crafting of retcons, explanations, timelines, star maps, genealogies and apologies to make this universe cohesive and alive...that is YOUR work. ________ I've decided I'm not going to the theater...I'm not dropping the outrageous prices to see this...no matter how impressive a spectacle they put on. I'm not encouraging others to do likewise...this is not the groundswell for a boycott. Just think about it...think about what it is...and what it's worth to you. I'll be on the board opening night...maybe we should schedule a NRW to run that day. This is a challenge to our intelligence as consumers...will we let this machine continue to feed? _________
Marine... You're nuts. Have you seen that trailer? That's Star Wars, man! Moreso than Jedi Trial, at least. Normally, I hear ya, but now you're overdoing it. Do you think the board people will make a difference at the box office? Like... What.... 2000 people on a scale of what, 50 million? I'm-a see it. And I'm a wear a patch on my coat saying:
Just remember that Anakin loses the rank off-screen, the Padawan will be killed off, Ventress is moaning about being Dooku's official Sith apprentice in Dark Rendezvous, and any scars he 'appears' to have are ones which he has healed and re-on him to make a point in Dreadnaughts of Rendilli when you go watch it, okay?
They should just make it all post-Obsession, and make everything up to Obsession happen in the first six months. Uh, Anakin gets a haircut or something. I just... can't get peeved about this. Especially since watching the Theatrical Trailer big and in HD.
I know, it's irritating. It looks darn awesome. Ventress! Hutt wars! Tyranus! But I don't pay to get in, thanks to my girlfriend working at the cinema. For all my principles as to money, it's free! I have to go see it for that reason alone - apart from it being a Star Wars movie. JM, come to the UK and I'll get you in for free.
Yea ummm....i dont care about Canon myself. I think it's great it is all supposed to "fit", but if it does not, oh well. I enjoy it all regardless. I was just making a Clone Wars Yoda Joke.
Quoted for the Truth. That really sums up my feelings. There are some great CW books (DR, the Quin arc) but the film/show look so promising that it just might be worth the continuity problems.
I'm pretty sure Dark Horse, Karen Traviss, and anyone who's done a Clone Wars work for Del Ray are pretty ticked right now. Methinks all the tie-ins to TCW will be retconning everything like crazy. This bodes terribly for the live action series.
I might take you up on that. I worked the years through the prequels at a theater myself. _______ Yes, SuperWatto...I know it sounds drastic...but it's really not...it's just the next step in the process to cutting the chords. I did see the trailer...and it was very awesome...not being a fan of the art style, I was still pretty impressed. But my paying money to be numbed by the "bangs" and sizzles and lights is only contributing to what I think the problem is. Being part of that unlucky generation who grew up on Star Wars, but was too young to really remember the films on screen...the "theater" experience of SW is not the "drop everything" draw that it is to others. I'm sure I'll see it via a friend...I'll probably have someone drop the dvd on me...or I'll just watch on TV! I'm giving LFL money for Indy this summer...one wallet extraction is enough for this summer.
I'm living in Canterbury over Summer. Maybe I can convince my girlfriend to let you come too. Would be one helluva a meet, and, as she works there, we'd get to see... a preview.
That would be amusing. I've been dying to visit the UK...be nice to suddenly live there. Hate to break it to ya Watto...check out this thread. Two such drastically different opinions couldn't co-exist in one mind. Unless I'm just insane. In which case, it's not conspiracy...it's just freaky bizarro world!
Ah... Oh... Well... Heard it was good. And by LFL. I don't know. I just don't think that, as invested as you are in the material, you will be ABLE to cut the ties. I think SW is part of you, as with many of the folks here, and you're just... repositioning it.
Iron Man was very, very excellent. Starts off slow, but very good adaptation of the franchise. For anyone that sees it though, STAY AFTER THE CREDITS. Mace Windu pops up after the credits for a particular reason i do not want to spoil. This has been your "Awkward Ad Of The Day."
Very brief OT post in response to Iron Man mention: How good are the effects on a film that has both ILM and Stan Winston Studio plus others? It's mind-blowing: Great film with a wonderful soundtrack.
You could be right...I could be in denial. But I'm okay with that at the moment. If I suffer withdrawal, I'll let people know there are physical consequences...and we'll get the universe labeled as a controlled substance. One nice thing is...right now, I don't think there is anybody in my immediate circle who will be pushing to rush out too it...which helps...there won't be peer pressure...except from here.
Well, I would comment, but it wouldn't really be TOS-appropriate. So I'll leave you with this, which effectively summarizes my feelings on the matter: <img src="http://forum.alsacreations.com/upload/2043-fail-camera.jpg">
the cohesion of this universe is under threat of coming completely unglued...and we've got Iron Man tangents. I love this board...you people rock!
