Because tanks can still be taken out by emeny infantry and therefore need infantry to protect and support them. Emeny infantry can run right up point blank to a tank, slap an explosive on and boom. In ROTS they show wookies swinging onto a tank droid to attach a explosive to knock it out. There are also anti tank rifles, shoulder fired rockets, bazookas, landmines, Molotov Cocktails, and grenades. Basically tanks support infantry, not replace them. Tanks also can't sneak up and surprise you like infantry can either. Every tpe of units has its pros and cons, the trick is to figure out the best mix of each type to have.

True - very true - I might sound idealistic - BUT I just came to wondering - well canon or not - BUT it was stated that General Grievious once ordered a massive planetary bombardment on Duros and he was able to claim victory - SO ... wouldn't the Separatists simply have had then used siege engines at extreme long range to spam-shot and blast Clone Troopers, Infantry or even Tanks - given in the Conquest of Ryloth - until the 4x Proton Cannons were out - it was up to Obi-Wan and Commander Cody's forces to take them out - but considering had it not been for TX-20's own arrogance and stupidity in just statistical faith and 'logic' - had he also had perhaps a few more tanks or even cannons or smarter droids to serve him - surely then the long range Proton Cannons would have still be a major headache then eh?

But I know what you mean on a mixture of such ...and don't infantry - aren't they still at risk even if sneaking up to vehicles and such at times?

Well, if we accept the Expanded Universe droids as valid, at that point they already had the IG Lancer droid, the IG-86 Sentinel droid, the ZQ infantry droid, the E522 assassin droid, the Uulshos 2-1 Justice Droid, theTac-Spec Corporation FIII Footman droid, the Baron droid, the Chameleon droid, the Octuptarra droid, the Droideka Destroyer droid, the LE-VO enforcement droid and the 501-Z police droid, so they had the tech to create effective droid soldiers.

I guess the Separatists thought that their cheap ass B1 Battle Droids could quickly win the war, and later, when the Republic deployed the Grand Army they didn't have enough time and resources to replace all the B1 droids with more advanced and more expensive Baron Droids, Super Battle Droids, Ultra Battle Droids, IG-86 Sentinel droids, IG Lander droids, Droidekas and Scorpenek Annihilator droids.

What is there to bombard on Duro? That planet is a toxic wasteland where gigantic insects rule

Hello again! I have no idea why it was that in a comic or such on the Conquest of Duros but then again - wasn't Duro's home of the Duros Alien species - and the fact Duros were renowned for their skills in space-faring and engineering? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Duro - I mean then again if General Grievous ordered a bombardment in the first place - toxic wasteland or not - the point being - surely an enormous planetary bombardment with spam-shooting of volumes and volumes of HE shells and such or bombardment is easier than having to send soldiers in and suffer casualties - when also considering one could use more advanced weapons and droids from a distance to commence a planetary bombardment eh?

As Ahsoka said in TCW, battle droids were meant to overwhelm. They weren't intended to be exemplary one-on-one combatants like the later commando droids were. The super battle droids also held their own on Geonosis, and the destroyers were quite difficult to take out. Don't forget the Confederacy also had tank droids, hailfire droids, droid gunships, and spider and crab droids.

You guys talk like the Clone Wars were a legitimate military conflict. Sidious manipulated it from the start. He knew of the existence of the Clones, and brandied together the CIS forces. The B1s are light infrantry. Cannon fodder that is able to occasionally work in successful cohesion. Sidious intended the Clone Wars to drag on, the production capabilities the CIS droidworks provided meaned that he could build the atmosphere that gave him power over the course of the war.

True - Palpatine was the true man behind the works (though then again Darth Plagueis mentored and helped him at times - and the fact having trained him to a high standard no doubt) - but surely then couldn't Count Dooku have taken some matters in his own hands even if he risked death or punishment from Palpatine? Given then again Sith betray one another in the end and the fact Count Dooku had his own ideals and ambition running the Galaxy upon the Separatist's Victory and how Count Dooku tried to convert Obi-Wan Kenobi to join him and 'together we will destroy the Sith'... so couldn't Count Dooku perhaps have had a secret new Droid army or advanced ships not yet unleashed and even to attack Palpatine (by his own - so not approved or planned with Palpatine then) something like that?

Palpatine was subverting his apprentice for his own ends from the start; Dooku was old and ultimately expendable. Anakin was the long game, Vader in-suit an unintended flaw.

I understand that - its just I'm surprised how it took that long for Count Dooku (given the fact he was given the works slightly earlier than the Republic - well the fact afterall he had to make the move - by being a 'disillusioned Jedi' and leading the Separatist Camp) and the fact how Count Dooku - still - surely in the AOTC - where he claimed 'a man named Sidious' and how it left the Jedi clouded for the majority of the Clone Wars and how Count Dooku claimed 'we will destroy the Sith' and 'rule the Galaxy...' - surely that would strike bells sooner eh for Count Dooku and atleast hinting no doubt he had ambitions himself - and how Count Dooku - well at times he had 'fantasized' how he would run the Galaxy ... and surely also given Count Dooku was the then apprentice under Palpatine ... surely its ironic its taken so long eh?

The simple truth about the Confederacy's battle droids is that they are effective soldiers. Maybe a B1 would be outfought by a clone trooper in a one-on-one gunfight, but wars aren't duels.

However goofy the battle droids sometimes seem, they are the central element of an armed force that is bringing a millennia old democracy to its knees. Battle droids (B1/OOM variants) competently crew the vast array of Separatist warships and manned vehicles. They police the Confederacy's subject/member states. The Confederacy's military, whose personnel are made up mostly of B1/OOM variant battle droids, maintains the existence of the galaxy's newest state for three whole years while it's in a state of war with a heavily armed rival superpower which regards it as totally illegitimate. Clearly they're doing something right with their battle droids.

The Confederate military is, canonically, a seriously effective armed force - one the very best seen in the Star Wars films.

True - but I still find it ironic how half the time particularly Nute Gunray whines and complains about how much it would 'co$t' him in Credits and due - and where in the ROTS novel he was complaining about having to fund the facility on Mustafar, fund the war, fund the mechanics of General Grievous, funding the IG-100 Magnaguards until General Grievous pretty much told him to shut up ... I mean surely perhaps even 1000 IG-100 Magnaguards could get the job done without needing like 1 million if not even billion Roger Roger! B1 Battle Droids eh? Given IG-100 Magnaguards surely then - they are tougher, they are more intelligent and more tactical plus they are more adaptable ...

I thought that they should have done a storyline where the Commando Droids took over the Droid Army. They were clearly more intelligent than the regular Battle Droids and it would explain why the Trade Federation relied so heavily on those instead of making more of the Commandos. They wouldn't want an army of intelligent killer droids that were smart enough to turn on them. It would also explain why General Grievous was brought in, a cyborg who could control the droids and keep the smarter droids submissive.

Actually now that you mention it - I wonder whether if the Commando Droids or IG-100 Magnaguards overall were better as both were tougher and more durable than regular Roger Roger! B1 Battle Droids and perhaps even the B2 Super Battle Droids ... but it seemed that for the Commando Droids - at times a clear shot to the head or even just a strong Force-push or just a well-clean-cut lightsaber strike could down them ... whereas the IG-100 Magnaguards could fight without a head as long as they had the main photoreceptor back-up unit functioning plus how well General Grievous had IG-100 Magnaguards at times flanking him rather than Commando Droids (although they too also accompanied him too) ... yet at times it seemed if a Magnaguard was decapitated or downed by a head-shot it just stopped functioning ... yet in games like Republic Commando they can tank quite some punishment before finally going down for good ... and even having a self-destruction sequence...

The fact that you call them Roger Roger droids says you dont really like them much. The B1s had a goofy personality. The Supers had no personality, there were some cool droids on TCW. I think all the droids were provided by the Techno Union, Banking Clan and Trade Federation.

Supers could be quite temperamental: "You stupid little astro droid!!" and in TCW, while not as personable as B1s, have their moments: "Out of the way! I'm having a serious malfunction!"

Now that you mention it - only the Droideka's hardly had any temperamental flaws or such ... and even the IG-100 Magnaguards - when Obi-Wan Kenobi in ROTS pinned one under a heavy mass-weight - it was yelping and desperately trying to grasp its Electrostaff before he decapitated it ...

Where even the Commando Droids - you recall on the Rishi Moon episode Rookies where Captain Rex tricked the Commando Droids where he went Roger! Roger! And the Commando Droids went 'Clones!'

Precisely! I mean why do you think General Grievous hated Roger Roger! B1 Battle Droids so much? Or he took out his anger on them ... he had 'parted' with them on occasions and remarking 'Stupid Worthless Battle Droids!' hence I clearly have a strong dislike of Roger! Roger! B1 Battle Droids ... hence why I put in the fact why didn't Count Dooku even if he had to pay outta his pocket for Billions if not Trillions of Credits worth to invest in tougher battle droids ...
