I agree. I want to say it's the Falcon chasing a TIE over Tatooine, but I'm probably looking at it through my filters.

I do hope they use a good bit of Ralph's ideas (yeah, he's "Ralph" to me....we're tight that way) I've always thought that his vision is what made the OT what it became so I'm sort of stoked about it.

I'd love to see the name Had Abbadon used. Not sure I'd want it to be a volcanic planet though since we already got Mustafar.

I love this thread. Ralph McQuarrie and his disciples will define Star Wars 7.

Come on, J.J.! Give us a peek at a Chiang painting!

Yeah, Doug Chiang is listed as a concept artist for Ep VII on IMDb. Do we know if that's true?

His style is very Prequel-esque. In fact, I would argue he was largely responsible for the look of the Prequels. The McQuarrie of the PT if you will. I wonder if JJ would have him design things more in the OT style, or if we'll be getting a mix of OT and PT designs.

chiang says he was heavily influenced by mcquarrie anyways. for those who might not have seen it already, or don't know much of mcquarrie's work, watch this series on the sw youtube page.

Ralph McQuarrie: Tribute to a Master - YouTube

i highly recommend watching these. they still have a ton of ralph's stuff left to use for more sw.

In the earliest draft of ROTJ, Had Abaddon is decribed similar to Coruscant but also having 3 or 4 Death Star's. The Ralph McQuarrie artwork pictures this with 3 Death Star's all in different stages of construction, of all of Ralph's brilliant work that has to be my absolute favourite.

They are already taking inspiration from Mcquarries art.

Yes, it looks far too peaceful, too zen for a Sith temple, says I.

I suppose you may have a point there. The black obelisks and the statue are quite suitably Sith, but the backdrop, with those beautiful orange birds flying by, seems so peaceful, so lovely.

better yet, replace it with bio-luminescent algae or something so it glows blue or green instead of red.

That's the Icelandic Ice Caves if I'm not very much mistaken. Remind me where they're filming again? ;)

Wishful thinking on my part no doubt...
