Okay, it's been fun but enough, before anyone says something regrettable.

Drop the personal allusions and let's focus on the topic.

The retagging of the "fluffy" threads seems like the best idea to me. It would be a good way to resurrect the defunct "Census" tag, actually.

Now, to answer some random points:

Both you and Boba Nekhbet make this point but, as Boba_Fett_2001 said, a big part of the problem in Community is that most active threads are megathreads. Do we want to add more megathreads to the fire? And if we do, it´s just because of first page visibility?
The Terms of Service disagree with you on the definition of spam, dear. :p
And that´s where the way to madness lies, Because, that "you know you are a nerd" thread that you mention people love, what is it doing in Fanfic? Why hasn't any of the mods there moved it to Community, where it theoretically belongs? And if we want to get technical, what does any forum that´s not JCC, SWC or EUC have social threads? Shouldn´t they all be moved to the social forums and a simple link left in the original forum´s header? And what about WNU and all of the threads that techincall belong to JCC, that´s, around 99% of them? See why we don´t do that? We would be damaging the community, just to be technically right, If a thread's placement is questionable but does no hard and is enjoyed by the regular, only an inexperienced mod would think of redirecting it.

I said Fanfic has their version. So it is called, "You know you're a Fan Fiction writer when-" So it is relevant to the forum.

I see A LOT of threads being directed to other forums, so based on that experienced mod activity, it seemed out of place for this Art one to still be here. I personally don't care where it sits.

I have had my own issues with mods directing where I can and can't socialise, but I get the macro issue (board wide versus individual preference) thrown at me, so meh.

Then I retract my point. Still, the Community thread is about sharing art, not necessarily your own art and not necessarily Star Wars-related. It doesn´t belong in Fan Art at all.

I don't get what's the big deal over some list threads. Isn't that what the jcc is for? All the **** that can't be put in any of the other forums?

Thanks for your input, but "useful" and "educational" are stretching it a bit.

Here's something: there's no discussion. It's just pages and pages of people posting youtube videos. People pop in to post their videos and pop back out. Do you know what was an actually useful and educational music thread? @ophelia's "music more people should hear." That was engaging and informative.

This thread is a bit different, and there is some semblance of discussion that happens, but it's still mostly just a "pop-in to say nothing and engage no one" thread.

Right, I'm not saying ban all of these threads. People want to share inane stuff, whatever. I'm saying it's overflowing and infecting the front page with redundant threads. How many different purchase threads do you need? Maybe we need to cover how much you paid to top off your automobile, etc.

If you want to randomly browse youtube videos, here you go: youtube.com. You can randomly browse any video you want any time.

Except we also have a what are you drinking thread. So why? Why 2 separate mouth related threads?

The Community forum is not your tumblr page. It's supposed to be for socializing and interacting with other forum members. These threads are isolating and push real discussion out of the way.

Merging a specific purchase thread with an already existing all-encompassing purchase thread doesn't constitute a "megathread". If people are only going to use the "what are you drinking" to post a single word, why don't those posts belong in the "last thing you put in your mouth" thread?

Very good point. No argument here.

Is it not? Apart from a rather robust-looking Batman vehicle, I have no idea what tumblr is, so that means nothing to me.

If the thread is sitting there when I pop into a sub-forum, and it appeals to me, I'll put something; there is no point having a go at me or other users; we didn't create the thread.

From my understanding of how the Boards work, if "real discussion" is being pushed out of the way, I would assume that is because the other threads are being updated more frequently? Why not just ask the mods if they can sticky your preferred threads, so they are always on the first page?

    That's a great idea!

The other threads are upped frequently because they are spam.

Retagging the fluffy threads would do a great deal to help reduce the clogging of the main page with inanity. Add some more strict merging and redirecting to the mix, and I think we are almost there.

Is there any way to display multiple tags at a time without viewing all of the tags? Or can you only display a single tag?

Maybe it's just because you're used to participating in these threads where you don't need to read any of the other posts, but you seem to have entirely missed the point of my post.

I realize the chorus of responses I might get with this, but I'd take this claim of a fluff problem in Community a lot more seriously if a massively successful Star Wars survival battle hadn't recently concluded, with most people in this thread taking part in that. Yes that was fun, but let's not kid ourselves in thinking that wasn't a version of fluff.

That was a game. I didn't say every fluff thread was bad. I said we have a problem of too many of them.

Fair enough; I can somewhat see that point-of-view, though I don't think its as worrisome an issue as you feel it is.

Plus there was more interaction between users in that thread than in any "water" "coffee" thread. People changed their signatures, created support campaigns and all. Not a good example, Tunick.

Also, it was tagged as a game, which was one of the solutions I suggested for some of these threads.

I enjoy reading and joking around in the First World Problems thread-- I think that has value. And there is often a back-and-forth. But I do hate when people fill the "what media did you media?" threads with nothing but the title of the thing they media'd. I like reading some people's thoughts, and people posting no thoughts at all or just "good movie" does seem like just a "+1." I don't care about the other threads mentioned.

I'm in favor of merging together certain "fluff"-type threads that are highly similar--e.g. "What was the last book you bought?" and "What book are you currently reading?" could be merged (the former thread is also redundant in light of a "What was your last purchase?" thread we already have).

I think it'd also be good to at least encourage some substantive posting (again with the book threads, one could say what they liked or didn't like about whatever book), but I understand not everyone will do that and it's not desirable to enforce it as an actual rule. But it'd be a good thing to encourage, if nothing else.

I said these threads might contain some discussion from time to time but are mostly just these isolated lists of spam, and you responded by telling me that they contain some discussion from time to time, so I charitably assumed that you hadn't read my post rather than that you had read it but didn't understand it.
