Did anyone ever wonder about the restroom situation on Coruscant and in Star Wars in general. There are over a trillion people living on Coruscant, with who knows how many different species. What are the bathrooms like? In the novels they always are called refresher units, but are there separate refresher units for each species? That would mean hundreds of different types of refresher units for each building, or establishment on the planet. What does a planet of that size with that many beings do with its sewage? Half the planet must be employed just to work the sewage plants to take care of it all. Do they ship it off planet or what? Where do they ship it all? There must be entire planets devoted to the storage of Coruscants waste. Do the beings of the SW galaxy even go to the bathroom?

They shoot the waste off into Coruscant's sun. This was seen in Rogue Planet.

If you remember Wraith Squadron, they offer an explanation for this.

When Phanan, Kell, and Grinder break into the bio-med facilities on some Imp planet, they find this virus created by some bioenginereering company. This virus was designed to breakdown "biowaste" material on coruscant. The wraiths used it to infect the crew of the reloading ship in order to protect their indentities.

Yes but what about the bathroom stalls?
Are there specific refresher units for each species? I cant imagine a Hutt and a human being able to use the same fresher.

Anyway sorry about this topic, I was looking through the old Illustrated SW Universe book by KJ Anderson (a great book, buy it if you dont already have it, and if you can find it) and there was a picture of the massive water pipes used to bring water to the different parts of the city. I just started to think about the plumbing in the Star Wars Universe, and how much of a problem waste management would be on a planet the size of Coruscant. I wonder if the plumbers in the SW universe suffer from the same debilitating disease our plumbers suffer from, that being the so-called plumbers crack. Can you imagine a wookie plumber working under your sink with a monkeywrench.

I think there are different refreshers for different species because in Ambush at Corellia, I think there was a passage that said something like "Chewie was a frequent enough visitor that it made sense to install a refresher for his use" or something along those lines.

I think the fact that they call it a "fresher" indicates something more envolved then a toilet bowl and sink. My guess would be some kind of universal unit that can service multiple species (though I doubt all). Considering the humanesque physique of so many of the cultures in the galaxy, a general 'potty' could be agree upon as soon as basic was choosen for a common tongue...it's not perfect, but it is adequate for most.

It seems most humanoids have their ... excavation/relief tools in the same general area. If you've played Dark Forces, you'll see that Grans have no problem with human-style urinals.

Except when a sadistic nut opens the door, throws a thermal detonator into the stall, then slams the door and runs off laughing before the blast kills the Gran and two stormtroopers.

BTW, how the hell are those stormtroopers utilizing the facilities with their armor still on? Is there a hidden fly in the groin plate or something?

And this is a serious topic. Think of all the sewer pipes that broke when the Vong bombed Coruscant. I mean, this is a potential weapon of massive stench here!

Good point about the sewer pipes. I wonder how many miles of sewage piping there is on a world like Coruscant? There must be some urban legends similar to ours about the alligator being flushed down the toilet, altough it would probably be a dianoga in the SW universe. Can you imagine having one of the eye stalks of the dianoga popping its head out of the bowl, man that would be scary.

Wasn't there a scene in Shadows about the Coruscant sewers?

A dianonga in the toilet. Man, would that suck.

"And in other news, the ravaged body of a man apparently killed by a dianonga was found sitting in an Imperial City public 'fresher stall."

Nitro, that's why I'm a weasel and always put the cheat codes on. That way I can stop to laugh, then kill the bad guys.

Imagine all the cheesy holo-vid B movies there'd be about that.

I wouldn't be surprised if half the planet was comprised of people devoted to doing nothing but service the sewers. I bet they made an entire field of scientific study on that.

"Sewrology" I can see it now.

I remember comments from some of the books:
    - refresher stations suitable for humans, and also the one about installing something for Chewie. A key phrase might have been that he was a "frequent enough visitor," or something along those lines. Apparently, he could have used the one designed for humans, albeit uncomfortably???

It seems likely that the vast majority of species have enough in common that the refreshers could be somewhat universal, though there might be adapters or movable parts to make things , uh , more convenient.

I know I'm a short guy, and stalls in the airport are sometimes very high, as if everyone is 6'6 or above, or very low for children, or very small people. An adjustable hight "refresher" would be useful there for sure.

There are two ways for a thread to die. 1. it gets locked so no more responses can be added. 2. it resides long enough in the Lit Forum file cabinet limbo that it eventually gets deleted so as to stop taking up valueable room. I'm sure this second way works in the other forums as well, though their file cabinet limbo would have their forum name.

Anyways, there may well be fresher facilities that are designed to service various species at once. Each one has different fresher units for the different races that would use them. It makes more sense to do something like that then have to build race specific fresher facilities for every race.
