Which is why it was the best example of foreshadowing Vader that the series has ever done. I've always though ANakin has been handled decently to very well, but here he just lets it all out, and its magnificently tragic.

I *just* watched this arc and loved it. It's so good that they chose to release this, I hope against hope that we get similar treatment for other recorded but un-animated stories too.

I agree. It's why I can never watch ROTS after watching TCW. It's too tragic at this point

Allow me to offer some brief reflections on The Crystal Arc, which I have just finished watching.

I was perfectly happy for TCW to end with Yoda's magnificent line about having found a path to victory "for all time" as yet unseen to the Sith, but I cannot deny how I excited I was when I learnt that new TCW episodes were being released, even in uncompleted form. The way the series has now ended with The Crystal Arc was brilliant. Yoda invoked and evoked the battle between Jedi and Sith in the mists of time only ever hinted at elsewhere in what remains of the canon, while simultaneously strongly suggesting that Kyber crystals power the Death Star. I had already considered that possibility when the crystal, which has a distinctive green colour, started vaporising people. The similarities between the Death Star and how lightsabres use Kyber crystals are indeed striking.

Obi-Wan's performance was magnificent and classic Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan's demanding Grievous surrender despite being hopelessly outnumbered, invoking the Star Wars equivalent of the Geneva Conventions to demand he be blindfolded, his cherry wave to Grievous as he and Anakin fled with the crystal, and generally reacting to his capture in the polite manner of the stereotypical English butler reminds me why Obi-Wan remains one of my favourite fictional characters.

As for Anakin, I, like many others, I am sure, was very glad to see some reaction on Anakin's part to Ahsoka's leaving the order. However, the conversation between Anakin and Obi-Wan about Ahsoka disappointing Anakin and Anakin's disappointing Obi-Wan, ending with Obi-Wan declaring that Anakin would never fail him, was almost unbearable. It was simply awful in its tragedy. One does wonder just how often Obi-Wan lay awake at night between ROTS and ANH reflecting on just how wrong he was. Further, we continued to see Anakin skirt close to the Dark Side. We also see the writers push the fact that Anakin cannot meet Grievous before ROTS to the very limits.

Then there was Obi-Wan's statement, "That's no mound: that's a spaceship". I love little moments like that.

My only regret is that, since The Crystal Arc simply cannot match The Yoda Arc in its brilliance, TCW has, at the last, stopped its trend of each season being better than the one that preceded it (plus, it would have looked great had it been fully animated). Nonetheless, this was an extremely valuable addition to the Star Wars story, giving us at least a little closure on Ahsoka and some insight into Anakin's reaction to her resignation - which demonstrated Anakin's ultimately catastrophic inability to let go of his attachments.

Thus, at last, ends Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Bravo, encore, and bring on Star Wars: Rebels.

I wouldn't be so sure. I highly doubt this is the last of TCW. We still have the bounty hunters arc unaccounted for, which was apparently pretty far along in the development process. It's certainly a possibility that we'll be getting that at some point, perhaps even fully animated, who knows.

I also feel like at some point, although it may not be for several years, Disney will allow them to do whatever they planned for a Battle of Coruscant arc and make that as a tie-in right into RotS. That is without a doubt one of, if not the most important unfinished TCW stories.

    Ramblings...

Search for the Silver Crystal or the big green Crystal? Ya know, I wasn't going to watch this. Much as I want more TCW getting tossed the bone of an episode with crude, unfinished animation pissed me off. But I quickly gave in and watched this four part arc. I loved how one of the episodes used the fortune cookie, "The jounrey is more important than the destination." That couldn't be more fitting for a show that centers around the journey of Anakin Skywalker and those who were around him during The Clone Wars. This was the highlight of the arc. TCW is about putting the pieces together to get to the destination which is ROTS. TCW's linear continuity has been getting progressively tighter since season 4. Anakin and Obi-wan's relationship which is a melding of mentor/ student, father/son, and brother/brother gains a little more depth with their banter and team work. Ahsoka was brought up in the arc pretty much to show a mirror to Obi-wan and Anakin's relationship to provide some damn tragic foreshadow. The lightsaber was also an important central theme in the arc despite getting played for laughs a few times. Man the alien stabbing himself through the eye was brutally funny. But seriously Anakin lampshaded it was throwing the 'this weapon is your life' right back at Obi-wan. He also put alot of thought into blaster selection perhaps subtly hinting at Anakin's unhinged emotional state. He's way more complaining and bratty toward Obi-wan and has much less self control for himself against violent outbursts.

Besides just that I really liked the humor that got into this arc. It had a nice randomness to it going back and forth between borderline twisted and a little slapstick cartoon. TCW has struggled with humor before but this time they nailed it. Besides the obvious Jerry Macquire reference I thought there were even a few obscure pop culture references to Spore and Invader Zim. And I don't just mean that because the Sugi (SP) leader was kind of Zim-like. This arc as mentioned before turned up the brutality going over the manner in which the deciesed Jedi died. The force was also put to good use in this arc between lifting the giant crystal together and badass displayes like Obi-wan's fight in the hanger. The biggest issues like with most of TCW were predictability and some of the droid humor that got in.

    Cool stuff.

Did you miss the part where there's at least one novel coming out? We're far from done with The Clone Wars.

The choice to use Utapau was very bad. That's all the planets from RotS Order 66 montage now used isn't it? The choice is really uninspired; the war didn't just take place on the worlds seen in the films.

Beyond that, I found it quite boring. TCW attempted to try and shoehorn itself into another classic piece of SW lore: the DS. It did not work.

Interestingly, the designed the character model for Depa Billaba for this arc. A bit of a waste considering the made models for Coleman, Eeth, Saesee, Oppo and either failed to have them do anything or used once only, really. Why bother making another if they're not going to do anything?

I'm glad this show was put down: it was moribund.

    Wow.

That is all I can sum up to say after watching these.

These would have been fantastic fully animated... but at least we got to see them, even in unfinished form, right?

I would have preferred to have seen this one in its final form then the Jar Jar arc though.

It validated my feelings about it. Not that we need to rehash another The Wrong Jedi argument but I felt the same way Anakin did about her leaving, except that I wasn't angry at the Council. I thought she was selfish, unforgiving, and not thinking of the larger picture. And Obi-Wan was right, she made the decision based on pure emotion, nothing else. Rarely a good way to make a decision, especially one as big as that.

Well you cant blame her imo. They not only didnt believe her , they judged her guilty before she was even tried and did not do anything to investigate on their own. Some of her closest who she looked up to like Yoda and Koon did nothing and did not believe her or would listen to her. They were willing to let her be jailed and tried by outsiders the Republic Military and they offered no legal team for her during the show trial. t Padme who was not even a defense lawyer tried. Only really Anakin and Padme helped her and they were alone. Ventress of all people also aided her. I think the clincher was the moronic way they admitted they were wrong and tried blaming the force works in mysterious ways and pass everything off as if it was all a grand design Jedi trial. If it was a Jedi trial all the other jedi failed, not her them. She was right to walk away anyway as the Jedi during this time had lost their way and destroying themselves and corrupted by the darkside that was blinding, goading and manipulating them since TPM if not years before.
