This is apparently the map which will be included in the game's physical retail copy. Here is a fan-made map of gang turf:
The map is meant to be smaller than Witcher 3 but it's still expected to be a considerable size as there is elevation in building you can access which barring some locations in Witcher wasn't really a thing. I'm sure it'll be big enough
Don't overlook the effect of map density too - combine that with verticality and it'll be quite something. Game world size isn't everything, but the design of it is.
For those playing at home, Night City is meant to be roughly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It is meant to be a 'new' metropolis, in that the city wasn't even founded until the 1990s.
Yeah, density is really where it will feel big. I've seen some speculative comparison maps, and it seems that Night City will be a bit smaller than GTA5's Los Santos. But the streets and buildings will not be empty like in GTA, there will be RPG-levels of detail, if the demos and teasers we've seen are any indication. The badlands seem to be pretty big too, you can just make out the city center through the smog in this shot:
Yeah, the ecological damage in 2020 in-universe was much, much worse than our own 2020. Most of California is probably desert terrain by 2077.
Not C-P:2077 but might be a fun read https://jingdaily.com/china-luxury-trends-cyberpunk-covid-louis-vuitton/ -------------------------------------------------- While I understand it’s a question about computer capacity and time+money to do it am I a bit surprised that we don't have more etno-gangs since it feels like large groups of immigrants from failing European, Asian, African, South America and Oceania countries wouly try their luck in US of A. Maybe in some future update – I would love if there was a “Britt-boy” gang of GB-expats fleeing post Brexit GB.
@Gamiel : The Cyberpunk 2077 history is based upon the pre-existing Cyberpunk 2020 timeline, which was written waaaay back in the late 1980s. Basically, in the late 80s, the "Gang of Four" - the main intelligence agencies of the US - end up forming a shadow government to control the country and wage war against America's enemies. Unfortunately the Soviet Union quickly falls apart (like in the real world) and basically negates their raison d'etre - but they decide to piss off the entire world to the point that the equivalent of the European Union joins with Japan to create a massive embargo against the US. In the mid-90s, the US economy collapses, followed by the government to the point that the military intervenes. Eventually, the US comes back a bit, but is still extremely weakened - it never truly recovers. If anything, people are fleeing from the US, not the other way around. The UK ends up basically under an authoritarian Tory dictatorship, although within the span of the original Cyberpunk 2020 game it gets overthrown and starts to head back to the way things are now. Having said all that, however, the original RPG only really got to 2025, so there's plenty of space to include some of what you're talking about. However, the one thing that we do know is that the US is still **** (technically, I believe that Night City is no longer part of the United States by the time of the game).
From what I've read of the lore, it seems that there was a "Unification War" in 2069 where the New United States recaptured most of modern U.S. territory, but Night City remains independent as part of the free state of Northern California. I'll be interested to see how the 6th Street gang plays into this, as they appear to be a satirical combination of the militia movement and Tea Party.
Yeah, I played both Cyberpunk and Cyberpunk 2020 RPGs -- they were incredibly punishing, but extremely fun and easy to play. (as opposed to Paranoia which was fun to play but incredibly punishing and punishing to play)... Originally 2013, then 2020...
Yeah, I was hoping the full Cyberpunk Red pen-and-paper RPG was going to be released before the video game. The timeline in the 'starter kit' is sparse (and the setting only takes the timeline up to around 2045 anyways). The best edition of Paranoia was the Paranoia XP version, which included the Straight setting - which allowed for actual Paranoia campaigns. I ran a Straight adventure and only one guy died. I don't mean that one person lost all his clones, I mean one person died once. Why is that fun? Because I literally drove a player insane. Spoiler (for those who don't give a **** about Paranoia) Spoiler I ran a published adventure called "Stealth Train" where in typical Paranoia fashion, they are sent to guard an advanced 'stealth' train that doesn't actually exist, but they can't admit that it doesn't exist. I had a tech call to ask them to perform very specific tasks and provide very specific answers on the train, and I was relentless with the pressure. They kept having to come up with answers on the fly and it got increasingly stressful. The last straw was when he asked what was printed on the menu in the dining car. The entire table went silent, because their brains broke. Then, one of my players spoke up: "Guys, let's just go to the kitchen car. If they don't have spare menus there, we might be able to figure out what they are cooking!" Everyone else turned in horror to him, and someone said "The train doesn't exist!" The player's eyes got big and he started laughing. "I... I forgot! We were lying so much I didn't remember the train wasn't real!" Everyone started laughing at that point. It was truly the best moment I had running Paranoia. Seriously, if you have a chance, read through Acute Paranoia - it has information about playing Troubleshooters at all security clearances and how to make it still about 'fear and ignorance'. I think that, like Call of Cthulhu, its lethality gets overstated sometimes.
I haven’t watched any of the gameplay videos or trailers, apart from one that I watched about a year ago. Even so, this is one of my most anticipated games of all time. I’m not quite at the “counting down the hours” stage like I was for Skyrim, but it’s close. Unfortunately for my excitement about the release, my wife are celebrating our 12th anniversary on the 20th. So it’s safe to safe I won’t be playing much for the first weekend. But there’s always the extended Thanksgiving weekend to get my gaming in.
Cars Anyone else think those blocks on the bottom right kind of look like the Berlin holocaust memorial?
The game has been delayed another three weeks. New target date is December 10th. I’m strangely okay with this. Given how busy I am in the latter half of November each year, I probably wouldn’t get to play much until December anyway.
Man, these delays are becoming unbearable!!! But I'm still confident it will be high-quality, they delivered with Witcher 3, I trust them to deliver again. Although, with the game having reportedly gone gold not long ago, I wonder if it will leak before December?
World of Warcraft: Shadowland's delayed launch says hi! Fortunately though, guess what December 10th is?
I was looking forward to using the Thanksgiving weekend for this, but I guess now I’ll just be playing Valhalla before this. My anticipation level for this is still off the charts, so it’s super annoying to get another delay, but I’ll get by.
I’m gonna wait for it to be patched for PS5 so I’m good with this. I can work on my backlog. Looking at you Horizon Zero Dawn!
