Because you don't just drop an immensely talented Force user who's had "issues" before on some backwater planet and HOPE that nothing goes wrong for the rest of her life. You're just asking for that to blow up in your face eventually, it makes whoever did it look like a reckless idiot.

I don't think he is flat, he is just what he was supposed to be, a farm boy with a privileged upbringing (compared to other people in Tatooine or even in the galaxy), who wants to have an adventure, i said that before, Rey in TFA is much more interesting than Luke in TFA, for me that is the strenght of this movie

When Rey was sliding down the sand dune in her makeshift sled, I immediately knew I was going to really care about the character. Since then, I've questioned why Luke and Anakin didn't resonate with me. It was the whiny factor. Star Wars is loud, full of action, and fast paced, so their whining added more annoyance because for me, the lead should stand out amidst the chaos. It helped that the first introduction of Rey was unspoken, seeing her hardship, and it just made her more sympathetic and captivating.

DaisyRidleyDaily - "Why me? I don’t know. I honestly don’t. But when you are doing a job and people believe in you and they listen to what you say and they care about how you feel—I felt like I became the best version of myself on set. When I’m playing Rey, it just feels right. It feels…****ing amazing. When I’m her, I’m like, ‘Yeah, I got this.’”

i totally agree, i care more about Rey in TFA than i did for Anakin in TPM and Luke in ANH, in ANH my favorite characters were Han, Leia, Vader, maybe even Obi Wan before Luke, obviously Luke grew on me in episode 5 and 6 but if they do justice to her Character in 8 and 9, and even 10 11 and 12 she might become more popular than Luke in the long run.

Strangely, her twin looks more like Rey than Daisy does

For me it is the opposite and I prefer someone who is questioning things. This makes someone more realistic, sympathetic and relatable. I like Rey especially in the first act, but I wished for a few more flaws. I hope we will see this in VIII/IX. ;)

I suppose it's possible that her Force abilities were somehow suppressed / hidden from her own awareness by someone who was able to do that? Her Force skills seemed to start emerging when she piloted the MF - ie the first time she left the surface of Jakku. Maybe - heh heh - the sand had a deadening quality?

There's some interesting talk both about the "Force Off" and the James Bond-trooper scene, about halfway down or so. Apparently they had Daisy redo the "you will remove these restraints and leave this cell with the door open" line later on. She initially said it with confidence right off of the bat, but the sound guys thought differently (and Daisy was totally cool with it):

Exactly! There you go. That line—she says it three times, I think. And she had played it very strong from the beginning. She just was confident that she was going to do that from the very beginning. We were like, well, it might be a nice thing to have her kind of feel this inside of her, like, “I don’t know why I’m being compelled to say this, but I’m going to do it anyway,” enough for her to verbalize it. We wanted the first couple of appearances of of that to be different. So she came in, and we worked on it to try to give her a trepidacious read of those lines, and it totally fit.

Personally, I think that doing it this way was the right call, it works much better.

Twin sister, hmmm.... My first thought was does she act too? And could that be part of a master plan? Probably not, but interesting.

I kind of hope that she and Chris Evans get to interact, that could be tremendously entertaining. Or Cate Blanchett.

No, she doesn't have a twin. Kika is a few years older than Daisy and Poppy is a couple of years older than Kika. They also have two half-sisters from one of their parents' previous marriages.

I'll take a stab ... since Only Yesterday will be out nationwide, Daisy will present with Dev Patel for the best animated film. ;) While in LA, anyone heard about the private signing she's slated for from KLF Sports?

New information (at least to me) that I found notable from the new Rey's Story book:
    • she would listen to old data chips she would find about the galaxy outside of Jakku
    • She knew what BB-8 was saying because she studied droid communication patterns at some point. They didn't say much about when/where.
    • She knew basic Shyriiwook (wookie speak) from her days on Jakku

Could Wedge be her father? The only known b character to have survived the original trilogy? Luke, Han, and Leia all know her, because they all know Wedge.
