ST Daisy Ridley (Rey) in the ST

That's a bit of an exaggeration I think. We had multiple great action flicks come out just last year. I'm not saying that she shouldn't do more drama roles, of course she should. But this idea of "oh she'd have been hurting her career if she'd gotten the Lara Croft job" is one that I just don't agree with at all.

 

Definitely considering who they got for the role. An oscar winner is not going to sign up if its bad. From what she said, it just sounded like it didn't have a script and was clearly booking other jobs. John also has a couple things happening as well.

 

I don't have much expectations for a lara croft movie. We all know it's gonna be horrible. Those kind of movies are mostly corporate stuff with no heart, more transformers than star wars, more the mummy than fury road. She could choose quality projects instead. Blockbusters included. All the spielbergs, the tarantinos, the del toros, the wrights, the jacksons, the cohens, the villeneuves...and there is also a lot of less famous directors out there who are very promising

Alicia literally JUST won an Oscar. This is the point I am trying to make. Like how Daisy and John have the pick of what projects they're signing up for right now and choosing what sounds best for them because they were the stars of one of the biggest movies of all time. So if she just won, no I don't think she'd pick a bad movie as her first post Oscar project.

 

We will see, I just don't like video game movies they just never seem to transfer over. I mean there is only so much you can do with the lines 'My father was right' If if only there was another entrance'

Just saying, winning an Oscar is no guarantee of good roles going forward.

 

Maybe it's just that i don't understand how it can be good to anyone's career to be involved in a Lara Croft Movie. Sounds like the kind of substandard dumb popcorn movies that pollute the screens....they don't even have a script or a director. Doesn't sound like a project with a vision. I believe in quality "popcorn" movies. Lara Croft won't be one of them, i'm sure Daisy will find better opportunities! more attack the blocks, more inside llewyn davis, more midnight specials, less london has fallen & co

 

There's a writer and a director now. When they announced her casting, it was announced who it was. From what people said, the game they're adapting this time was a lot more in depth about her as a character and all that kind of stuff, so it showed potential for the movie to be much better to start off with.

 

hmmm but i've never seen a good movie based on a video game yet, it's hard to get excited about these adaptions after so many horrible flicks, most of them just cynical cash-ins..let's see if warcraft and assasin's creed break the circle...then i may start to believe again!

 

Tombraider is a great opportunity for a female actress to play a strong starring role that is both independent and kicks ass. It's not like those types of roles are coming in by the bundle.

I personally doubt that Ridley took herself out of the running for that role. The new Lara Croft games are pretty awesome and the character itself, I mean really, I don't think they get much better in Hollywood. I have seen Daisy Ridley say that after being spoiled by Rey, she is having trouble looking at diminished, weaker female roles. Even if Tombraider is a flop, oh well, the actress is going to get paid big time and clearly the studio is going to put a lot of budget and promotion into the film. I would have considered Daisy Ridley lucky to have landed the role, just like I do the actress that actually got it.

 

Louis Gossett Jr. is the ultimate example.

I agree. Although I'd rather her outfit to keep the grey-esque look and see the black on Luke. Hopefully it will turn out to be true in the final product.
