Discussion Daisy Ridley (Rey Skywalker) in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars film

"You think you know Darth Maul, but you've only heard HALF the story!"

 

According the reports post Lindelof getting axed, this plot was his story minus the Rey being central char rebuilding the Order. She was the older mentor in a post new order galaxy training a boy and girl. I dunno if this was debunked but he isn't writing the film anymore for a reason. Feel free to share if said original synopsis was debunked so I can inform myself but only thing I saw debunked was the report Yahya Abdul Mateen was being eyed as main male lead and then obviously Steven Knights script not being this according to Lucasfilm....which we kinda already knew when the old Rey reports came in.

 

So what? Palpatine can Clone Entire Bodies of itself why Darth Maul cant use a prosthesis or something? Kanan had a Human Son hybrid with Hera who is a Twi'lek a hybrid between a Zabrak and a Twi'lek would be less weird than a Human being the Son of a Twi'lek there is not logic in Star Wars anymore but i dont know who could be the Villain in Rey Movie the Grysks? i dont like the Grysks being the Villains for one single Movie i think they could be used better for a TV Show

 

You know, kidding aside, the story of what happened to Maul’s lower half is yet to be told…

I like the idea that as his top half crawled away, his lower half gets up and runs into the tunnel wall, falls over, gets up again, and runs into the wall again. Over and over. For two hours plus of screentime.

 

You know, after I posted this I started thinking it might be fun to have a comedic non-canon kind of anthology show with these kinds of stories. Maybe Grievous incognito attending a Jedi surplus auction, stuff like that.

 

NOPE I’m really hoping the “girl and boy” leak is false. I want a vibrant 100+ new Jedi order like in Legends. We haven’t seen live action multiple Jedi squads kicking ass since Attack of the Clones. I like my Jedi thriving by the dozens thank you very much.

 

That’s not gonna happen in 15 years.

 

Fair enough. But still only 3 leaves me underwhelmed

 

I imagine this film will see a functioning Jedi Order in place by the end of the film (or at least the seeds of). Stories involving multiple Jedi I think will have to wait till after that...

 

Or we might see the disbanding of the jedi or something else entirely. If you want Big Jedi Order the "Dawn of the Jedi" would be your best bet.

 

I do believe about 85% of the synopsis is true. Whether it was a different draft of a script perhaps. Maybe it was the original intension when there was thought about getting an older actress to play Rey. But i do believe there is some truth to it. And i do think that element will be in the movie, even if abit different.

That’s possible, but given the film is being badged in the era of ‘New Jedi Order’, I suspect we won’t see them disbanding… although from the sound of things, there will be some discourse getting there.

 

Isn't "New Jedi Order" the era? Like how the "Rise of the First Order" era, ends with the destruction of the First Order.

I don't expect them to end the Jedi Order in this film, too marketable and marketing opportunities. Or maybe they will, I expected a jedi Order to be a big part of the ST so what do I know.

Seems like they will question "why we need the Jedi" which is odd, but I expect it will be like when the James Bond movies ask "do we need bond?" and the answer is yes and the person asking is often evil.

 

Yes, it's the 'era'... which doesn't mean that the new film has to have a functioning Jedi order in it, but we'd presume that this is where it's leading... I mean, I'm making an assumption that this makes sense to DLF, and that they'll make it make sense to us (?)... I guess we'll see.

Re. "why we need the Jedi"? I agree. It's a stupid premise, given the destruction of the Jedi seems to directly result in the galaxy suffering under the tyranny of the Sith, Empire, First Order etc. Saying that (and I thought we'd get to see this in the ST), I think there's still a question about what the Jedi (post the fall of the Republic/Rise of the Empire) would look like e.g. would we see Luke reject the notion of the more stoic, politically aligned and emotionally detached Jedi (?)... or would they be more in touch with their feelings, in tune with the living force and less willing to be active participants in a galactic police force? I'm up for all that... I just wished that we'd seen that through Luke Skywalker, as that's where the narrative was.

 

The script is pretty good. Especially the part about Plagueis being Rey’s real grandfather.

 

I suppose I could understand a “Why do we need the Jedi?” concept if the villains are akin what’s going on in the High Republic, with the Path of the Open Hand. A misguided religious sect who believes that the Force should be left alone and any manipulation of it is bad.

I’m just spitballing, but the director has done a number of documentaries about oppressive religious institutions, so I could see that being up her alley.

 

A story about how the Jedi who came before were oppressive, and how Rey is leading the new force sensitives down the right path.

That will 100% reinvigorate the franchise and get fans excited about Star Wars again.

 

The Jedi were oppressing who?

 

I fear they could 'show' the old jedi as oppressive and wrong. With the Jedi being an oppressive religious body.

The Force and force users I guess.

I mean they did oppress people in the name of the Republic but I don't think this film will get into that.

I mean it has been 50 years (or maybe closer to 65 or 70) since the jedi order existed, so questions about "Do we need them back?" are likely, but the answer should be a simple "yes" and move on from there.

 

Whilst that could be interesting, and would certainly be unexpected, I expect that the Jedi (or the original Jedi to be more specific) will be shown to be heroic and defenders of the downtrodden from the start. It will probably be an individual, whom is part of an oppressed population, that will discover the force and use it to overcome the oppressors. And I hope we get to see one of those original Jedi break away to form the Sith. I hope we get that in these films (although probably not in the first one).
