So I see alot of people complaining that this book was too much like a set of clone wars episodes and not a novel and I totally see where you are coming from. When I was reading it, I felt like I was watching the episodes in my head right down to the animation of the locations and hearing the voice actors saying the lines. BUT, I would like to point out that this book was basically made for TCW fans. They were the main ones asking for it along with endings to many other character stories from the series that got left hanging in the air when it was canceled. Filoni is slowly delivering with things like the Maul comic, Ahsoka in Rebels, and now this book. This was written specifically with TCW fans in mind so it makes sense that they kind of catered the writing to that style.

I often enjoy reading scripts , that in many cases better than the actual movies and often contain deleted scenes or omissions. Having said that, I don't understand why this was chosen as a novel when it could've been released as a graphic novel if they could not make 10 issue comics. There wasn't any real sex scenes or anything remotely to warrant a novel present . What they could've done for added chapters and stuff was taken the time to to delve into important things like the deep origins of Ventress's birth and the Nightsisters and their origin & religion should've been flushed out as a whole along with Ventress's apprenticeship to Nerec and later how she came to Dooku(as the Micro-series was obviously not involved and even if it was, there isnt much there). They really needed to explore Vos and Tholm - early padawan missions and the like to make you really care about those characters. As a result this book is basically cartoon 22 or 25 minute scripts novelized and you're left wanting a whole lot more.

Maybe Dark Horse's "Star Wars Omnibus: Quinlan Vos - Jedi in Darkness" should be required reading before this novel. :p I think that can still fit and flow fairly well into this book. Obviously all of Quinlan's Dark Horse Clone Wars adventures can't fit at all though...

It may have been intended to cater to them, but as someone who's seen about one episode of the show, I still thought it was accessible and entertaining.

I'm not happy with the events of the finale alluded to above, but so far it feels like the most worthwhile of the new canon books.

Now, I haven't read DD yet, but it seems to me like everyone complaining about the Jedi forgiving Vos for killing some people is no worse than Luke forgiving Kyp for blowing up a solar system.

I take issue with both of those things. A person can be offered forgiveness for a crime, but they must still be punished for it. Any good they do does not wash out the bad. Both forgiving parties in those examples failed in their duty to see justice done.

The people complaining about Vos killing in the Dark Side should remember that Vos pretty much did the same thing in his original Republic run, and was pardoned at about roughly the same point in the war originally.

Regardless of the canonical status of the old comics, I'd like to believe he survived Order 66 in a matter similar (if not identical) to what was seen in Republic 81-83, since the suggestion that he did originally came from Lucas anyway.

Ventress may not have an open fate anymore, but there's no reason that Vos can't now.

Problems exists in logic and narrative. These Jedi are all corrupted so we as an audience have to question their reasoning at all times and everything they been doing for 1,000 years - its cloudy we're lead to believe Jedi are the moral compasses of the SW universe, but now we can't trust them nor rely on them as they're under the influence of the Darkside and now the Dark Lord of the Sith more directly and indirectly. Are these the good guys or they are just a lesser of the two evils presented to us?!

The Jedi are aware on some level things aren't OK within their ranks and their ability to use the Force has diminished and they've been losing Jedi to the darkside more blatantly. Jedi are a religious order, and with that they do things differently fine, they can choose to decide forgiving and place him under penance but they do not lock him away nor place him on temple duty for the rest of his life. There is no sense of punishment, the crimes he's guilty of were not victim-less. So he retains his Jedi rank of Master and still given command of a military force and thrust right back into actions which have been making these Jedi fall since AOTC and led Vos to become a Sith disciple and near Apprentice.

Even if the Jedi chose forgiveness and all of that kinda thing, why wouldn't the Republic military bring him on charges, why would the Clones still work with him, were his soldiers on Boz Pity even Clones or were they regular soldiers of some kind. Did Vos die in ROTS, a deleted scene was to have him killed on his AT-TE, deleted scenes are not canon so Vos is still alive until we learn differently. If Vos is alive, then his life is now dedicated to making amends for his crimes, so he should be at the forefront of the rebellion against the Empire- but this is so, would make him again a victim of the darkside. Jedi using their powers for war and attack from everything we're learning is a fall from grace, a step away from the light. Did the Clone Wars actually end, or are the dark times and Galactic Civil War just a continuation and the war without end foreseen by Sidious back in his office as he created this mess and was never able to destroy the Jedi and the Jedi were never able to destroy the Sith.

Anakin was given the shaft by the Council, Vos was able to retain rank as Jedi Master but Anakin after everything since AOTC-TCW was still not accepted nor trusted by the Jedi Council - not granted rank of Master due to him being untrustworthy and Palpatine's appointed Council representative. This is the Chancellor the Jedi handed over the Clone army to and did basically nothing to stop or object to until the last days during ROTS.

So...stories should be graphic novels unless they have sex scenes, because why else would you write a novel if not for sex scenes? Umm…

It's very interesting how the sins of the past come back to haunt people in this book.

I don't remember all the details from it since I haven't read it in a while, but one thing that is contradictory in those comics with the NU Canon is Ryloth. In the DH comics Ryloth was tidal locked, with one side of the planet constantly facing the sun. Thanks to TCW, Ryloth is now a planet just like most other in SW. Because why would anyone want a non-generic jungle planet, right?

Yes, barren planets are pretty common in SW. Ryloth had lush jungles in LotS right?

That book has literally wiped itself from my mind but afaik no, it does have a jungle moon though where the Moff resides. Ryloth itself seems to be mostly barren as seen in TCW, with forests here and there.

It does have jungles, mostly along the equator I think.

Re: the Jedi Council, after the Yoda arc I tend to think Yoda realizes exactly how ****ed up they've gotten but realizes he's got to keep going through the motions because the only winning moves Palpatine has left him are the ones he eventually makes.

So when Mace starts getting all executey he's just like "**** it, knock yourself out".

Incorrect, not what am saying. What I was saying was it could've simply been a graphic novel comic if they could not fit it into 8 part comic mini-series. The need for this series to be a novel was marketed and sold to the public to be a novel primarily as it was supposed to be "skewed toward adult readers with adult themes impossible for for the cartoon network". When in reality the only thing I can think of is they used the word "lovers" when the Council asked Ventress directly and Golden slightly extended a romance scene or two to make it more implied sex but never explicit either cause its SW. But much of that was already found in the actual scripts it it was not graphic and that was not badly needed to read or crucial where it all warranted a novel form to get away with anything.

Meh, it was obvious to me that they had sex, but I'd hardly call any of the scenes "adult," unless the crappy Harlequin-style dialogue that Asajj would never use is considered "adult" material.

This was my favorite novel of the new canon and it makes me sad that it's probably only because it's adapted from un-produced Clone Wars episodes. Everything else in the new canon has seemed so forgettable except A New Dawn. I honestly cannot remember what Tarkin and Heir To The Jedi were even about. Lords of the Sith was ok but a blur now too. How is I could already have forgotten how the book ended when I just read it THIS year? Did Cham Syndulla die? I cannot remember. At least Dark Disciple I'm still thinking about and not likely to forget (poor Ventress- always one of my favorite characters).

I really enjoyed this book! Every single chapter.^:)^

I like how Ventress evolved throughout entire story (started during TCW with Dooku's betrayal). They have developed her character well and added great deep into it.

It would have been good to see episodes of this story but I am also glad that it was turned into book as it gave the author better chance to explore the characters.

Being a fan of Mace Windu, I was kind of bothered by his portrayal in DD. I know that he's always been one of the more..erm...slicey jedi, but he was flat out axe-crazy in this book. This isn't the same Mace I'm accustomed to seeing. I do realize that a lot of that is colored by now-non-canon books like Shatterpoint, but...yeah...he was kind of a DB in this book.

Well, this is the same Mace Windu who needlessly killed Jango Fett on Geonosis, rather than stop at chopping off his hand (potentially leaving Jango available for interrogation and learning about the Order 66 plot years ahead of time.)
