I love that moment where Kanan gets blinded. Maul should've said, "Whose the grandpa now, blind man?"

They're throwaway low level Imperials like Stormtroopers or Clone troopers or droids , while Inquisitors are closer to Savage, Ventress and Grievous on this show is what is meant - the evil equivalent of an upper crust of combatant like Jedi. Also judging from this episode the 5th Brother and 7th Sister must have been more practicing since the combined efforts of Ahsoka and Kanan proved inferior and twice they waited for Maul to create an opening and inspire them to attack where they worked as a team after Maul's lead. SO Maul was able to galvanize all of them into standing their ground and fighting while Kanan and Ahsoka wanted to leave Malachor so he was responsible for making them stand and fight which was what they supposedly wanted, especially Ezra.

But two season finales, where only the Inquisitor(s) die, and both Kanan and Ezra are wounded at the end, seems Ezra and Kanan meet and survive all the top villains of Star Wars under miraculous circumstances. But again, its a cartoon still.

Judging from the look of the Maul's lightsaber, it appears closely modeled on the Grand Inquisitor's model(although they all look fairly similar ), so its very likely Maul killed off a prior Grand Inquisitor or the one from the first season, had lost his lightsaber to Maul during a confrontation..

Maul's lightsaber confuses me. Why is the broken ring part sticking outwards in the direction of the blade instead of curving back around like all the other Inquisitor lightsabers? (The disgusting asymmetry is also annoying.)

IMO they should've just used the double magicksaber. Or, y'know, since that would probably be outside the show's budget, Savage's. *grumble grumble*

Lends credence to his story that he's been stranded for some time. It's hilarious. Without any actual tools, his attempts to "fix" the Inquisitor saber lead to this mangled, awkward object. I'd suspect the twisting away of the ring part was a way to make it easier to use two hands a la TPM, but it's really too short to be good for that. So, he's stuck using it one-handed like the Inquisitors do most of the time. I bet he hates that thing, too, though -- shrug -- it's better than not having a light saber. I think the Darksaber's loss reflects his loss of Mandalore. if it still exists, it is in the hands of whoever was last to rule there. if it was lost or broken (the reason Talzin would have made him this magiksaber in the cutscenes of Son of Dathomir?), the weapon's loss foreshadowed his defeat.

If Maul and Darth Vader meet in Season 3, Maul can tell Vader all about his experiences with Sidious, sawing some of the seeds that will push Vader to consider challenging his master with a partner.

Though Vader/Anakin had plenty of opportunities to observe how treacherous the Sith are (Palpatine's lies about knowing the secret of immortality, his sacrifice of Dooku, his training of the biotech monsters in the comics), so maybe not.

However, it would still be a nice scene between them. Maul: "Your master will betray you and cast you aside, just as he did with me. Unless you betray him first."

Vader is more angry about the heresy the cyborg-creations represent rather than the fact that Sidious follows the Sith tradition. If a Sith is weak, he deserves to be replaced based on that weakness (Vader strongly believes in that based on Lords of the Sith), but replacing a Sith with a non-Force User is blasphemy in Vader's eyes. Maul isn't even half as religious and intuned to Sith tradition so I don't know how he could reach Vader. Maul is a purely selfish creature with a revenge obsession, Vader isn't.

I don't think using Savage's saber would have been a good idea, his hands were huge, the weapon wouldn't have been fit for Maul. Or it would have looked awkward.

But it seems that Maul's lightsaber in Twilight was one that he took from an Inquisitor (personal theory : the emitter is broken and he can only activate the two blades at once), so I'm hoping that he will build himself a new one (or find either the darksaber or his original saber) in season 3.

It's obvious that he still believes in the Sith philosophy even if he doesn't identify as one anymore.

He still wants to take an apprentice. He still tells Ezra to use his anger to gain strength, strength to gain power and power to break his chains. He's still firmly on the Dark Side with an understanding of it that befits a Sith Lord rather than a Dark Jedi like the Grand Inquisitor.

I loved the way Maul called Ahsoka "Lady Tano". He was almost flirting with her. Their fight was epic and probably not their first. Maul seems to respect her in some way more than other Jedi he met. Maybe because she left the Jedi on her own. I really would like to know about their encounter on Mandalore fifteen years ago. :)

Parroting Bane is still a bit meager as far as Sith philosophy goes. The Sith are supposed to be about more than just power for power's sake though the new EU still needs to build their philosophy more.

For example Vader faithfully serves Sidious because he truly believes Sidious to be the more powerful and thus the more deserving of rule.

I know this probably wasn't intentional, at least until this latest iteration, but I do like how Maul's various sabers reflect his own development as a character:

Double Bladed Saber 1: A finely crafted and unexpected weapon that surprises the Jedi, just like Maul himself.
Half-Double Bladed Saber: A broken but still dangerous weapon that is both more maneuverable but also serving a function it wasn't meant to, like Maul as the wild card in the Clone Wars.
Darksaber: An artifact of a bygone time, one tied to the Mandalorians by tradition, but not Mandalorian in origin, as befitting a warlord still commanding their armies but standing apart.
Scavenged Inquisitor Saber: A twisted variation on a tool that once served Sidious, now a former shadow of the glory that inspired it, for a man who is now less than he was but still dangerous.

Maul uses one hand when fighting on Rebels with that lightsaber as the hilt is not as long as Maul's original. Maul's belt appears to have two attachments for hooking the lightsaber hilt, one on his right and one on the left.

Am I the only one who wants Obi-Wan to show up in S3 and FINALLY get the chance to defeat Maul after so many years since he had been forced to watch his master killed?

I dunno, the poetry of Maul's end coming from Obi-Wan is so perfectly "Star Wars Symmetry" that I think I'll be sad if it doesn't occur.

As much as I want Obi-Wan and Maul to meet again, it would contradict A New Hope when Obi-Wan says he hasen't heard that name in a long time.

Except that Canon already has precedent. Obi-Wan saves Luke when Luke is a preteen in the new comics, and is referred to more than once as Obi-Wan during that portion of time, and he refers to himself that way as he scribes his diary entries.

Obi-Wan in ANH was holding a LOT back from Luke on purpose. His old Jedi name can join that list. I mean we are literally talking about a scene in which he pretends he's never seen Artoo before.

Maul could just call him Kenobi, I think that's what he usually does. Doesn't Luke know his last name in ANH? I haven't seen it in a long time.

Yes. Leia's transmission calls him Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Luke recognizes the last name as belonging to Ben Kenobi.

when he's not twirling the lightsaber or deflecting blaster bolts, his combat form is of using a primarily one right handed grip where so far he uses both blades at once rather than turning one off like the Inquisitors normally would- it started when he used the cane in the other hand in his left hand as a secondary weapon, and continued after he threw the cane away in the later duels where again he favors and uses a one handed attack with a doublebladed ligthsaber . He also used a lot of kicks and acrobatics which was very similar to his fighting style in TPM. In fact his fight scenes reminded me of Sidious in The Lawless, how Maul kicked around the Inquisitors and his combos on the 5th Brother who is kinda built like Savage was. When Maul fought the 8th Bro on top of the pyramid he did so using his right arm, while the left hand Force pushed him off the pyramid.

    Hi Vorax,

Of course Maul needs two hookings for lightsabers. One for his own and another for the one he acquires from enemies like Jedi or inquisitors.for there is no darksaber anymore.

After reading Son of Dathomir I had almost forgotten how bad and vicious Maul can be. Beside mauling some battle droids, his killing-count was zero in this TCW-arc. But the blinding of Kanan now in Rebels was really awful.

I'm a bit disappointed about not having seen that selfmade Sith-temple-holocrone-battle-station unfolding to full action. :(

It seemed to me that somebody got terribly bored and organized a happy slapping on Malachor with four double-blade lightsabers plus four Jedi-sabers, which Vader surely didn't wanted to miss. So he joined the party.

But well - I didn't see a few episodes before the final. The clue why they all gathered at Malachor for the final of S. 2
