I suspect he'll get another lightsaber at some point following the pattern Darksaber, firesaber and Inquisitor saber, perhaps the Darksaber will be returned to him or he'll fashion himself another his own new lightsaber. There is a certain kinda similarity to his Infinities lightsaber:

Pretty cool that they will have Maul's base in Season 3 at the Mando Supply Outpost he used in Son of Dathomir.

Dave said they even used the model they had started on for TCW arc that never got completed, and they even gave him his red version of the Gauntlet fighter from that arc. In universe he would have known about the base from previous history there. This may be reaching, but will Kanan and Ezra be able to sense the Jedi and Sith encounter that occurred there through the Force? Perhaps because of the dramatic nature of what occurred for some characters? I'll put this image in spoiler tags for those who haven't read it yet:

Not sure its the same exact station since it was compromised as it got ratted out by Mandalorian anti-Maul resistance rebels working with the Republic and they would presumably become Imperial auxiliaries and servants. And its not likely Sidious would just known Maul loyalists hideouts to exist. Remember it was also attacked by a Republic strikeforce from Windu and Kenobi. So Sidious would know where it was and it likely would've been destroyed or respurposed. But if it looks like a duck then it quacks like a duck I guess I don't know. Are there any Death Watch members with Maul, or did he just have a lair awaiting him for 15 or more years, how long was he on Malachor. What happened on Mandalore. Lots of questions and we may or may not answers this season. Am finding it a lil more interesting to see where they go with Maul since they're reconnecting him to his Mandalorians where he left off at in TCW/SOD. Is the red colored Mandalorian an ex Death Watch soldier?! The trailer kinda leans towards depicting Sabine as becoming a leader of Mandalorians but I wonder if its a ruse - will the Darksaber be passed back to the rightful ruler of Mandalore Maul. Will he finally become selfless or carry on the Sith way. Will we learn his real name, will he begin to use his real name rather than his Sith Lord name?

I know right! so many paths for Mauls story to take. People say it should be done and he should die, but why? He beat kenobi. He got his revenge. Now he can go where he wants and do what he deems. Although I have a feeling that Filoni will kill off Maul soon for fear of those who just deem him "fan service;" to me, Maul is the most interesting character to come out of the prequel era, followed by Ahsoka.

I feel like Maul's final fate will be to become neutral Force-user with Ahsoka. If Maul does die, Duel of the Fates should play for his final duel.

Vorax I see what you mean but Filoni did say at the Rebels panel that it's meant to be the exact same base. The rest of your thoughts are quite interesting and I hope they at least explore some of that this season. It may be a long game to get the full story on Mandalore.

Being stuck on Malachor gave Maul plenty opportunity to work on his dental health.

Or perhaps it means he's less Sith corrupted than before. His eyes could change color if lets go of the last vestiges of the Sith way as he was shown in SOD as a boy with silvery-yellow colored eyes.

I know that people are really excited about Thrawn analyzing Sabine's art and what he's going to do with it, but I also really want he and Maul to antagonize each other and for Thrawn to start analyzing Maul's tattoos.

It's the fight between Vader and Maul that Filoni fears that it looks like pure fan-service, not Maul himself.

Literally the first thing that some people pointed out back then.

Hell originally Maul was going to die in the season final, but Filoni thought Vader killing him would. Be fan service so he was saved because of anti fan service. :p

The Emperor and Vader's power in the Force wanes significantly by ANH not increases.

Maul is tactically minded, he was trained to bring down the Jedi and the Republic . He may end up being the one that ends Thrawn's career on Rebels, especially if he decides its in his own interest in aiding the The Ghost crew as they share a common enemy, the Sith and the Empire - which we know for a fact he's determined to see the Empire fall for his own reasons. The larger story will be is Maul ready to set aside his petty selfishness and embrace being selfless which may be the true path. As long as he keeps carrying the Sith way he seems destined to failure as all Sith eventually do fail its the way of the Force. Maul would need to become something greater than a Sith if he is to achieve true purpose. Talzin prophesied he has an important destiny to fulfill.

He has refused to be lazy and satisfying a specific fan group in a boring way, he tried to write a proper scenario for the whole series. Which is great.

I'm really happy that pieces of SOD are making it into Rebels - I'm looking forward to seeing that base. I'm also happy that Rebels will be visiting Dathomir, as I'd like to see Maul's connection to the planet explored further. SOD was far too rushed, and the time Maul was on Dathomir in CW seemed equally brief, because after Talzin restored him, he was off seeking revenge.

Based on the footage seen in the trailer, my guess is that he will try to bring Mother Talzin back to life and she will somehow manage to possess Kanan's body. Quite intriguing to say the least. Talzin is a powerful force wielder that certain someone could consider as a threat. :p

As for Maul's lightsaber discussion, I'll repost something from another thread:

Well interesting thoughts. I've mentioned in the past Maul may use two doublebladed lightsabers or perhaps merge his red Sith lightsaber with the darksaber and interesting enough the Art of TFA did depict a warrior using a doublebladed lightsaber comprising of the light and the dark, one blade red the other blade blue.

Talzin was an interesting minor character but SOD did a nice job closing her chapter and expanding upon Maul's development. I dont think Talzin will or even could come back as she was quite clearly destroyed. Or even if she could would she be the same, I mean her love for her son was not really even Dark Side-like and went against the Nightsister ways. Could it not be feasible that maybe there is a vengeful Nightsister or would be Mother out there that wants Maul dead because of Talzin?! Or simply they're out for themselves. Besides Talzin was not a natural Force user and she was ghast or ghoul , not even a full ghost(spirit) nor truly alive by the time of TCW and she needed to absorb the life forces of Force sensitives inorder to gain power and harness and manipulate the Dark Side of the Force. She served her purpose in the storyline and died honorably for a villain and her "coming back" would take away and cheapen the dramatic effect. She helped get Maul from point A to B anything else would be a complete regression. That said its obvious this season appears to return some elements of "Son of Dathomir" . I am just cautious where they go with Maul as there is only so many times they can him keep attempting the same thing and failing , I want to see new and fresh things aside from "if you do not first succeed try try again" which appears to be the theme this season. Maul should really do serious damage to the Empire without fully exposing himself, like Starkiller who destroyed all witnesses leaving little to no trace which was also like when in DH's Darth Maul comic when Maul brought down the Black Sun singlehandedly without leaving a trace of his identity. Where Maul goes as a character is crucial.

Its possible Maul is working with someone else, maybe a surviving Witch, or he himself wants to sacrifice people to some kinda supernatural Force like we saw Talzin attempting to gain great power. Maybe Maul learned how to use magiks or has new powers since his stay on Malachor. There could be other villains out there aside from the Sith and their disciples that grave power and want to take advantage of the void left by the Jedi's demise and the Empire's chaotic evil.

While I'd love to see Talzin return, I'm not sure there is any bringing her back to life - what is dead may never die - as she lingers in the spirit realm more than the physical world for the later half of the CW. She is eternal, and until Dathomir can thrive once again, she has no reason to return to the physical world, as she likely can assist her son via spirit ichor. It will be interesting if she indeed possesses Kanan, and what purpose that might serve, as that possession would likely be limited to Dathomir.

Anyhow, I rather see more original characters even if they suck, but atleast something newish thrown in the mix. Am sure more Inquisitors will pop up to fall.

Filoni is a giant hypocrite. So I guess his pet character Ashokha constantly managing to survive again and again and refusing to give her a death or conclusion to the character is not obvious fan service? Not to mention showing how she can battle Vader to a standstill despite being leagues below him. It's pathetic. These prequel era characters eventually NEED an ending, I mean Obi Wan died in a New Hope. Is Maul and Ashkoha supposed to survive to meet Snoke?
