I'd say pretty much all comic series have arcs that are just meant to help set up future arcs. Heck in TWD they got to the prison in issue 12 yet the Governor was not introduced until issue 27. That left fifteen issues (basically an entire years worth of comic releases) that was mainly focused on exploring the grounds and hooking up ( to hopefully make you care about the characters and where they were staying at more so when they did get to the Woodbury arc it would be important to the reader).
I wouldn't say "nothing" important happened, Vader shaking off his pursuers and gaining the respect for Tagge are important steps in his career. Of course it's not as earth shattering as issue 6 was.
What could possible happen to him? Short of killing Aphra or her finally just getting her own story there is nothing this comic series is doing or actually able to do, because Vaders story is already told and they are certainly not trying to add anything.
Well, Marvel have just released the solicits for post Vader Down and there could indeed be ramifications from the arc
Lots of great characters for Vader to interact with, for one. I also think him sparing Aphra or being nice to Thanoth sets up his later redemption a bit. I also wanted to know how Vader becomes the leader of imperial forces in Empire and this delivers. It also gives us interesting insight into Vader's relationship with the Emperor. Well that's from the top of my head. This is one of the most content-filled stories in the new EU. I don't understand why you want a solo Aphra series when Vader is the main cause of her internal conflict.
Yeah now imagine those would actually be able to get their own, clearly much more interesting stories instead. Also for the 2 good characters this series has had so far, it has an impressive mess of one offs to be killed just so there is something to kill and that so incredible stupid "villain team" that walked in from some other Marvel comic for no good reason. Sure, but it is no different than other behaviour we see him have towards people that are useful to him and no pretty sure Luke is the redemption thing Does it? How? I mean he will never have more authority or Imperial toys then what the Emperor gives him anyway, no matter what he pulls. No sadly it does not, the few times the Emperor has shown up in this have been cringe worthy at best, and also we already know how they get alone via ESB. As in it has random locations for the sake of random locations? Yeah it does, but there is just never anything of substance here, it seems to stumble from some random event to the next, just so Vader can kill more people there and get some petty bickering done. Because unlike Vader stuff can actually happen to her that will make a difference down the line.
I like most of the characters and those that aren't fleshed out yet like most of the "abominations" have some interesting potential. I haven't seen him act that way towards subordinates in ANH or TESB. It's good set-up for what is to come. I want to know what is going on inside him before he turns. No matter what he pulls? The path is worth it to me, not just the destination. I want to see the struggles. Subjective. This is not a critique, just ranting. I like new locations, I like world building. Pretty much everything happening has served the plot in a way, more-so than the main SW comic series for example. You have evaded my question. Aphra is interesting because of what Vader reveals of her through he interactions. Aphra + droids without Vader wouldn't even be half as interesting.
Oh everything in this comic series has potential, I would just wish it would actually use some of it. Piett, Veers, Praji, Jir? It takes a lot out of if it if he can not loss I love world building, this comic sadly does not actually do it. It has locations, that is it, since it just jumps arround to much. The main series at least manages to stay in one place for story arcs and with it breathe life into those locations. We for example have learned more about Nar Shaddaa in the recent SW main run arc, then about all the locations in Vader together, and that series is not even all that good at world building either. No, the story should just be focus on her instead, with Vader a menacing presence in the background, because the story is not actually doing anything worthwhile with him anyway. Just use him like they did in Twilight Company, his presence and what he is easily more than enough. And loss the Droids, the joke was fun once, it is already played out.
No, not even close. He can't die, but he can lose. Oh, so you conveniently ignore the Cylo creations or the Geonosian queen with her droid-childs. You may not like them, but they sure constitute world building. If you want to convince me you are a troll, you are doing a good job. I am wondering why you still come here tearing the book apart if you like nothing in it. Yes, Nar Shaddaa was good in the SW run. No, the story should just be focus on her instead, with Vader a menacing presence in the background, because the story is not actually doing anything worthwhile with him anyway. Just use him like they did in Twilight Company, his presence and what he is easily more than enough. And loss the Droids, the joke was fun once, it is already played out.[/quote] I'm not opposed to a solo Aphra series, but I seriously doubt it would be better than this one at the moment. This is my last post in this discussion with you.
Close enough for me, sure Aphra is different because she is outside the Empire, but how he reacts towards other Imperials in this series is little different from those 4. They do, but they were both just blink and you miss it things quickly glazed over and clearly just weird for the sake of being weird. Generally getting to read them for free is a factor, some morbid curiosity also swings with it (dig up some of the old Star Wars Wood comics if you are ever curious how another actually somewhat shoddily written series went here on the board) also there is always hope the creators are reading along and take the critic to heart. Given the proper creative team for it could certainly work.
