Is the Tusken thing for real? Or is that someone trying to be funny?

Sigh.... yes, it is real and it was announced during Celebration Europe this July. If you look at the preview pages of this issue (which you can find in the second post of this thread), you can see that the last preview page is from said Tusken Raider story.

And why not judge the story AFTER the issue comes out? You will be better able to decide whether it was a good idea or not if you have read the comic.

    re: That Tusken tale

    Look at the creative combo:

Kieron Gillen and artist Max Fiumara.

Fiumara has been doing some great stuff over in the Mignolaverse before getting hoovered up by Marvel, but it's also written by Gillen. Chances are it'll be very good.

There will be more to it than just slaughter I think.

Agreed, I wouldn't put it past Gillen to do what JJM did in Kenobi and show us a way to understand the Tuskens, which means this is probably going to be a very sharp edged story for the reader.

    Darth Vader #25

Vader telling the ships brain to fly into the sun. Cool twist.

I really didn't get the whole Palpatine/Vader/Aphra scene and what she did and did not tell the Emperor, but I obviously (1) should go back and re-read the entire run and (2) I obviously gleaned that Vader wasn't in trouble. Obviously, she didn't tell the Emperor about Luke which he figures out in Empire anyway which this comic wonderfully set up.

Vader shooting Aphra into space...wow. I paused for a moment as I couldn't believe it, but then I was kind of happy.

Loved the Tagge and Ozzel scenes.

The Vader reaching out to Luke "through the Force" gave me chills.

And the end. But earlier...Aphra is still alive OF COURSE. She pulled a Kanan and survived in the vacuum of space. Pablo said something about a body can last up to 90 seconds in space in a recent Rebels Recon so I guess Gillen like the idea as much as Filoni. Oh well.

    Book IV CODA:

Vader slaughters a village of Tuskens. One survives. He is found by a different tribe. Then they all build a giant Vader shrine that they worship? I don't get it. What's the point?

The EU (Tatooine Ghost) did something similar:

with a shrine to Anakin made by Tuskens who'd discovered the massacre and were trying to placate the "angry ghost". Similar logic may be what these Tuskens use.

Holy yesballs. I'm not sure if it was the over-sized book (which I loved), but this felt like the STAR WARS event I've been missing since all of the craziness last fall and winter. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and feel like it ended appropriately. We get to see more of Vader being Vader and we also get a couple of nice surprises.

How close are we timeline-wise to ESB in the main comic? The last shot of Vader in this book made me think we aren't too far away.

    Iron_lord, thanks! That makes sense.

Why is it called "Book IV: Coda"?

We're still more close to ANH than to TESB. Probably six months after ANH I guess, but certainly not more than a year after ANH.

GFFAwakens, my guess is 2 weeks.

Edit: Maybe a little longer because
Ozzel is a **** up and probably doesn't have the Executer ready when Vader told him hence him failing for the last time at the start of ESB.

The previous 3 arcs have all been compiled as books - this part of the 4th book - a "coda" is like an epilogue - an add-on at the end.

The Deathstalker novel series by Simon R. Green, for example, ended with "Deathstalker Coda".

Regarding the timeline, here's some evidence:

    * When the main Star Wars comic started in January 2015, it was said that it starts not long after ANH, so probably just a few weeks.
    * Skywalker strikes and Vader happen simultaneously and end both just 6 or 7 days after Skywalker strikes started.
    * Showdown on the Smuggler's moon happens immediately after Skywalker strikes and Vader and covers just two days.
    * Shadows and Secrets starts shortly after that. We're still close to ANH because Aphra mentioned in Darth Vader #7 that the Lars homestaid was raid by the stormtroopers some weeks ago. Then there's a time break in the same issue (probably several weeks). The rest of Shadows and Secrets happens in 2 or 3 days.
    * Vader Down, which follows Shadows and Secrets, covers one day. At the end of that arc, Aphra is captured by the rebels.
    * At the beginning of Rebel Jail, it is mentioned that Aphra was in rebel custody for several weeks. Rebel Jail happens in a very short amount of time.
    * Aphra escapes at the end of Rebel Jail and goes to the Cosmatanic Steppes, where Thanoth finds her in The Shu-Torun War/End of Games. She was probably just a few weeks there in exile.

I can't really see that this whole story stretches out over almost three years. It's probably six months, maybe a bit more, but certainly less than a year.
