(reposting ends) Although stuff like alchemy experiments could explain the Bat-Rancor, my initial reaction (beyond Gremlins 2 references ) was actually along a different train of thought... What if this is actually what Rancors 25,000 years ago were like naturally? Wouldn't it make sense that species wouldn't be exactly the same 25,000 years ago? Maybe Rancors did fly originally, but over the millennia their wings became vestigial as the species evolved, and eventually, lost them altogether (and/or had that trait bred out of them by the Dathomiri, Sith, etc)?
Just wanted to drop in to say that I can't wait for you all to read this issue. So many new characters--so many new places and a lot of new information about the Je'daii, Tython and the Settled Worlds. Just looking over the art and story, I can't believe everything John and I covered in issue 2. Here's hoping you will enjoy!
Let me guess. By the time we finish with this issue, our reaction will be the same as yours and Mr. Ostrander -
I'm sure it's a vision of Xesh. The assassin doesn't seem to be Force-sensitive or using holoshroud tech (and for all I know, the latter might be thousands of years in the future yet).
Im glad we see someone using a slugthrower. Im sure the Infinite Empire, or other really ancient species have developed the blaster pistol/rifle. But it does make sense in this era, for the main star wars races to not have invented the blaster pistol/rifle yet. Though it seems they have blasters on there spaceships.
As someone on the Forcecast noted, that is NOT something you want to be standing under when it chooses to relieve itself.
A decent issue. Nice to see the Sith likes playing with force lightning. Sadly, the book ends right when things get interesting. Now, I'm left wondering if Xesh summoned the Jeedai or if the force did. I'm hoping the former but it's likely the latter.
...did that Red Sith just say "Hola"? Sweet issue though- it has that John/Jan trademark of covering an amazing amount of ground within a finite amount of pages. Everything so far has been pretty interesting, too (well, I was a little less interested in the assassin, but the Twi'lek Baron stuff it connects to could be good). Jan's art is awesome throughout the issue as well- it's been too long since Legacy, I've missed her style . A little dissapointed that the Rancor-Dragon isn't part of the species natural evolution, but I guess it's supposed to convey the alchemical experiments of that temple more than provide a biology lesson .
That Hola thing stopped me short for a second. Interesting. Great issue. What bothers me is that it ended all too quickly. The art was fantastic. I get such a joy from holding Jan's art in my hands. I hate that this series is only a 5 issue arc. There is character building and world building going on. Legacy had the advantage of coming after everything. Establishing characters and the setting wasn't such a task. That said, I like the core group established this issue. I'll say that I'm glad that Force Lightning is considered a no-no even in the Je'daii era. Sek'nos' introduction reminds me a little of Exar Kun's intro.
Still don't know why Sek'nos Rath, has 5 fingers per hand. It made sense for the hybrids in the future to have 5 fingers, because they had human DNA because of those human dark jedi. So why does his grandfather, Thok Rath have 3 fingers per hand, like a normal sith should, but Sek'nos doesn't?
