The rules!

Picks will be allowed to be posted from today until January 9th, at 12:00pm PST. Of course nobody who dies within this time period will be counted towards points right away; the 'Purgatory list' is back, to be revisited on New Year's Day 2026, to see if it affects the final scores. Why a Purgatory? To make things a little more interesting.


To be fair to any & all playing, everyone gets 11-picks. NO PM's; much easier to track & compile results by going through the first few pages of this thread. The criteria is simple: any celebrity/well-known human that's 18+ (obscurity is welcome, of course, but that person's got to be some sort of a known figure) and/or famous animal in the vein of Harambe, or P22 (the L.A. mountain lion). No JCer's, obviously.





Points & multipliers!

Base points for age groups are as follows:


18-30... 100-points

31-40... 90-points

41-50... 80 points

51-60... 70-points

61-70... 60-points

71-80... 50-points

81-90... 40-points

91+.... 30-points




Multipliers...

2x- if two people on your list die within the same 24-hour period (changed from the old rule of dying within the same calendar day).


3x- if three people on your list with 48-hours of each other (changed from the old rule of within 24-hours of each other).


5x- "the scumbag"... a death that near-universally won't be missed (i.e. Garry Glitter, Putin)


9.4x... "the Todd"... if you post about someone, and they die within 24-hours; named for @Todd the Jedi commenting that Steve Harwell had days to live on September 4th, 2023, only for him to die later that day.


10x- "the massive"... a death, loved or hated aside, that will cause world-wide news for some time to follow (i.e.: Trump).


13x- "the irony"... a death that's related to the person's career/work (i.e.: Paul Walker dying in a car crash in '13).



NEW for '25!: "The Tunes"- if anyone dies on the following dates (which are important to my life), you get the multiplier for said date: June 17th (17x- graduated high school on this day in '04/the Lakers triumphing over the Celtics in a game 7 to win the championship in 2010); October 15th (15x- this is my birthday ).



50x... "the exact"... a death that occurs on a person's birthday.


100x... "the absurd"... if multiple people on your list die in the same incident OR are responsible for the other's demise.




Remember, multipliers aren't mutually exclusive, so depending on circumstance, a particular death or deaths can net you a large amount of points!




THE winner will get 31-days of custom colors; also, the Ent award will go to the person who makes the most ridiculous death announcement post in this thread... those colors will last 9-days, and will be chosen by me.

 

This has to be one of the weirdest JC traditions/games.

 

I don't see the issue with this game

 

Yeah, Colo was the first gorilla ever born in captivity, and I was surprised that gorilla had still even been alive, I assumed the first gorilla born in captivity was centuries ago. It’s important to bring attention to animal rights, and recognize them as individuals too. So I shared the news story in the thread where people talk about notable individuals passing away.
