Me too. I really hope that Dan kills The Captain, too, and I get the feeling he will, if only because we know that Hearst wont get killed so there has to be some kind of payoff (or revenge for Al) for the audience.

The next epsisode really looks like its going to deliver. Is Brian Coxs' character gay and if he is , and I think he is , doesnt it seem like Al knows and doesnt really care?

Oh, yea, I think that he's gay and that surprisingly, Al doesnt seem to care. Langrishe also seems to have taken a liking to Merrick, too...

And looks like Merrick took a liking to Jack.

The dissappointment was clear in Merrick's eyes when Jack walked by the print without saying anything to him.

That's right, Id forgotten about that. Looks like we may be seeing some brokeback love then, although personally Id rather see Joanie have an affair with Lila or some other hot whore...[face_love]

No remember a few pages back I put that Jonni and Jane where going at it making out in a trailer of "whats to come this season"

I damn near hurled when I saw it!

Lila is hot though and I don't mind that Red head that stepped up to bat while Lila has been junked out.

I feel so bad for her, though. I hate seeing her so depressed week after week. :(

Yeah, she really is the most likable character on the show with a real innocence despite the harshness of her life. If youve noticed everyone in the town is beginning to adore her, as are we, the viewers. I really hope she lands on her feet and nothing bad happens to her. She's one of four characters that I'll cry if they die ( Al, Doc, and Ellesworth, too - and I think theyre all goners ). It doesnt hurt that shes a hot lesbian, either;) ! Man, the Docs got TB in 1880. Thats gonna be sad. It already is. I shared Trixies horror when she sees hes sick. It makes you realize that he's one of the most important people in town - if not the most important.

Of course I could very easily be wrong, but I get the feeling that Joanie may have gotten a reprieve from the writers after surviving both Wolcott and Tolliver last season. She's just got to get herself out of this funk that she's been in ever since Wolcott went on his killing spree.

And that's a great point about Doc. It seems almost inevitable that he'll die before the end of the season. If so, what will the camp do without a doctor, at least until another one arrives by coach (which would probably realistically take weeks, if not longer).

Its definetely time to start a Dead Pool for Deadwood, DVader.

    Al
    Dan
    Ellesworth
    Doc
    Alma
    The Captain
    Leon
    Tolliver

Heh, great idea, especially for Deadwood. Im surprised you didnt think of this sooner. :p

Anyway, Id say that its jusy about a given that Cochran will be dead before the season ends, The Captain possibly as soon as this Sunday. I could also see Leon going, especially if Ellsworth finds out that he's been hooking Alma up with some dope. Im honestly not sure what's in store for Tolliver, especially since I thought that he should have died at the end of last season.

Lastly, as far as Al and Dan go, well, that's harder to predict, especially since the real Swearengen and Dority lived for some time beyond 1877

Yeah, definitely. I place Al and Dan in there just for traditional film purposes. Guys like them traditionally bite the dust but as we both know HBO is anything but traditional. Leon is just an out and out skell whos in need of comuppeance. Tolliver is a little bit more of a question mark for the exact reasoning youve put forth. Ellesworth and Alma were easy picks for me because their fictional people and you can just see the story wrapping up with the Bullocks caring for Alma and Seths baby and Sophia. The Captain is easy money and I actually have Adams on the bubble. If he survives being Als go between with Hearst then I think he'll survive plus I saw a little clip of Bullock and Adams talking which lead me to believe he might become an ally of the sheriff in a law enforcement capacity.

Hmm, I had thought that Alma would survive, seeing as she's one of the 'children' of Deadwood, but after reading what you posted I remembered about how she said she wanted to leave Sofia with Bullock if anything happened to her, and if that isnt foreshadowing then I dont know what is. I hope that poor Ellsworth doesnt die, though; Ive grown fond of him of late and as one of the purely selfless men in the camp Id hate to see him go.

I also hope that Adams lives, too. Ive always liked him and found him to be an intriguing character with tons of potential. It'll be interesting to see what kind of role he plays as Al's intermediary with Hearst.

The way they developed the character of Ellesworth is nothing short of brilliant. The first impression of him and what kind of man he actually is are completely opposite . He gives himself no credit whatsover in anything he does and yet he exceeds eveyones expectations in everything he does. He's really one of the main characters of the show that completely flies under the radar - which is exactly how the character of Ellesworth would have it. I think the producers have purposely made us forget that Ellesworth witnessed Brom Garretts murder and is now married to Brom Garretts wife. It may come up before its all over.

Great summation of Ellsworth, dude. Personally I wasnt that crazy about him when the show first started, but I really developed a liking for him once he proposed to Alma. There was something so chivalrous, so honest about it, yet at the same time it was sad because it's obvious that he's in love with Alma yet knows that it will always be unrequited.

Does anyone know if there are any living relatives of these characters?

If so I was just wondering earlier today if any great great grandsons or daughters thought of the show and how their kin has been shown. I think it would be very cool to get some family opinions on what they thought.

    Anyone know about this?

Hmm, that is an interesting question. I dont for sure if there are any living relatives of some of the real life characters, but I wouldnt be surprised if there are some descendants somewhere, especially those of Seth and Martha Bullock. You've got me curious, now, though, so Im going to look into it online and see what I can find.

Anyway, I was at a BBQ all day and night yesterday so I missed the episode, but Im going to watch it back to back along with last week's again. Ill be back later with thoughts and comments.

Another terrific episode this week. Loved Dan's fight with The Captain, loved Hearst's comeuppance at Bullock's hand...ahh, but poor Hostetler...:_|

That was probably the best episode of Deadwood yet and thats really saying something. The fight between Dan and the Captain was filmed as close to perfect as you can get, complete with a sublime and ominous score. And just when I thought it was all they could do, they go even further by showing Dan to be fragile and human - something always hinted at throughout his murderous tenure but never in fuller display then last night. Its almost like HBO is saying " Look - we're BETTER then going to the movies ". Last nights episode went a LONG way to that end. And its amazing how the shows creators seem to have the exact pulse of the viewer. Im sitting there asking myself " why ? " with regards to Hearst and his machinations and sure as **** theres Al all of a sudden posing himself and his men that very question. And wouldnt you know it the minute I give up on it and think to myself that the shows writers have painted to themselves into a corner, here comes Al out of his office proclaiming to have no angle on Hearsts reasonings and therefore must risk having Dan face a lethal opponent in the thoroughfare of Deadwood. Its like they know the EXACT buttons to push in ones mind. And man-o-man - what a fight!

Yea, that was friggin great when Dan ripped out The Captain's eye, and when he slowly got to his feet and hovered over him, and looking to Al for the confirmation to finish him, and Al's almost imperceptible nod...brilliant. Just brilliant.

And I agree about Dan's after the fight. We've always known that he was sensitive but it was surprising to see him hole up like that after killing a man in single combat (but then again, according to Al, that's precisely why he did react the way he did...)

    Here's next Sunday's synopsis, from meevee.com :

    Episode 30: 'A Rich Find'

Aunt Lou's well-traveled son arrives in camp; Alma's recent behavior takes a personal and professional toll; Bullock and Swearengen prepare for the worst with an irate Hearst; Joanie extends another invitation to Jane.

This is probably the best episode of the season. The fight was so realistic. I jumped out of my seat when I seen that eye come out.

I love when it shows the human side of the characters. Al knowing not to bother Dan, he knows what he is feeling right now.

I thought Hearst and Bullock were going to fight right there in the Saloon. I believe that Alma will be dead soon. I can see her overdosing on the drugs she is taking. Either Ellesworth or Bullock will find her and Bullock and his wife will raise her child.

Trixie cracks me up every time I hear her speak. What exactly is she doing for Al. Was she put there to keep an eye on the "Jew"?
