I like the CIS Great Weapon retcon better. Shame it's not the official one.

"Impressive your highness, but what this battle station needs is Black Sun to make it fully operational."

Emperor Palpatine: "Well done, Prince Xizor. You listening to all this, my apprentice?"

    Xizor: :p

Darth Vader:  *scrunches up map of Falleen.*

    Something like that? ;)

I wonder what ill-contrived plot point they are going to create to make Bevel Lemelisk the bastard son of Dooku who recovered the DS plans from the body before barely escaping Invisible Hand.

Illegitimacy is overdone in fantasy. Might as well say adultery is rife in TV progams too. And since we get a lot of American shows . . . you see where I'm going with this, right? Robots are a true breed of civilisation. Is this book hardcover?

Or maybe Palpatine accidentally lost the plans because he forgot to backup the harddrive of his computer, and Lemelisk and Co had to redesign the entire thing from scratch?

    First look is up.

The near extermination of the Jedi order cleared the way for Palpatine -- power-hungry Senator and Sith Lord -- to seize control of the Republic, declare himself Emperor, and usher in a fearsome, totalitarian regime. But even with the dreaded Darth Vader to enforce his sinister will, the threat of rebellion still looms. And the Emperor knows that only abject fear -- and the ability to punish dissent with devastating consequences -- can ensure his unchallenged control of the galaxy. Enter ambitious and ruthless government official Wilhuff Tarkin, architect of the Emperor's terrifying dream come true.

But from inception to completion, construction of the unprecedented Death Star is awash in the intrigues, hidden agendas, unexpected revelations, and daring gambits of those involved on every level. The brightest minds and boldest egos, the most ambitious and corrupt, the desperate and the devious, all have a stake in the Death Star and its potential to control the fate of the galaxy.

Soldiers and slaves, loyalists and Rebels, spies and avengers, the innocent and the evil -- all their paths and fates will cross and intertwine as the Death Star moves from its maiden voyage to its final showdown and a shadowy chapter of Star Wars history is stunningly illuminated in a thrilling, unforgettable adventure.

Mmmm. Tarkin and high-level Imperial politics. I've been waiting for this book for a long time. But remind me again why Luceno isn't doing this? This is right up his alley. Perry did a good job with Imperial politics in SOTE, though, so I don't doubt the authors' ability to pull it off.

Previews do a **** for instance.

Edit: Whoops... I have no idea what happened there. Some bad copying and pasting, I think. Let me try again below...

Hmm. If this is mostly from Tarkin's or a loyal Imperial's perspective this might be very interesting. However I fear that time will pass too quickly through the book, jumping years between sections. I also fear that it will end up showing that everyone and their brother knew about the Death Star being built, which would just suck. But I do look forward to seeing a young Daala.

Darn... I wanted them to retitle this novel Tarkin: Death Star :p

At least I got my wish there'd be some background on Tarkin in it.

And I'm really realllly hoping Raith comes back. And that we find out what exactly happened to him.

If it was Tarkin: Death Star then we would know it would not really be about Tarkin though, like Yoda: Dark Rendezvous :p

    Take two:

    Previews do **** for instance.

Also, Karrde, I wouldn't be surprised if we got this story from many different perspectives. Reaves and Perry did Medstar from Jos Vondar, Den Dhur, Tarnese Bleyd, Column/Lens, Kaird, and more. Their character-driven stories with everyone's takes are their strength, to be sure.

    Take three:

Previews do wonderful for whetting my appetite. :) I wonder if this novel will continue the story of any of the characters from Medstar, or if they'll all be reserved for Coruscant Nights.

    Kaird, for instance.

So... anyone know why including the link to Kaird in my paragraph made it all turn into four asterisks? :)

Let's not forget the ex-Jedi from Dark Lord who set out to engineer flaws into Imperial designs... :D

I'm sooooo looking forward to this! :)

Maybe we'll see Dangor approve the draft of the Tarkin Doctrine, too?

No, that's probably hoping for too much. :p

Dangor in a novel would be ungodly heights of Lucenoan glory. Beyond that, even.

Right you are, ThrawnRocks. How much was the cyborg in his recent book? Death Star . . . a thoroughly unimaginative title and now with a cover to match.

For the record, the cover is actually better than I expected. I was afraid it would just be some photoshopped crap of the second Death Star or what we saw in ROTS.

It reminds me of the OBF cover, actually. Wonder if Tarkin's on the back ala Thrawn?

I really like this cover. It's not much, but it's totally in the spirit of classic Sci-Fi art. I can see the Outbound Flight similarities, although I think it's a bit more stylized and won't have a character on its back. Reminds me of the Dark Tide covers, too.

    But what about this...
"all their paths and fates will cross and intertwine as the Death Star moves from its maiden voyage to its final showdown"
...this would imply a rather short timeframe, right? Although I think that the summary really doesn't say much about the novel and this might be just a bad choice of words.
