Andor Dedra Meero

I like her character well enough that I want to get the Black Series figure of her. I'm going to a con this weekend, so hopefully she's available there. Otherwise I'll get it from Amazon.

Well I can team her up with my Mando/Ahsoka figure. There is suggestion here that maybe Deedra could make an appearance in the show.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see Filoni repurpose her and Kleya too.

She would be in mid-level Nuremberg trials! Most definitely.

Dedra and Syril are a match made in hell. They use each other and are not entirely honest with each other. At the same time, they are both underdeveloped emotionally.

 

She's imprisoned because the Empire is run by a bunch of Owrellian/Atwoodian people who are obsessed with maintaining order. That means they are also into hurting each other to achieve higher rank. It's the main reason that certain bureaucratic structures become toxic and insane, but they are at their highest level of drama within the secretive totalitarian regimes.

 

Wouldn't that be unfair and unjust as well as cruel? Considering she was imprisoned on Narkina 5 for years at this point

Is 4 or 5 years in a Narkina prison adequate punishment for a genocide? I guess that's for a judge, or a jury, or a tribunal to decide. I have a hard time imagining she gets "you've repaid your debt to society, you're free to go" though.

 

One thing I was wondering, and probably a stupid question that I'll ask anyway; was the prison that Deedra winds up in the same one that Cassian was in during the first season?

 

Nobody gets out of that prison anymore. She's there for life.

 

Maybe she'll accidentally get freed by the Rebellion or New Republic. It would be interesting to see her reaction to the Empire being gone.

 

I could see it. She has every reason to hate the Empire now since they incarcerated her, not to mention the fact that being in that kind of prison can break a person physically and mentally and allow for a change of mind. She'd have to be forgiven for her past tho, or successful in concealing it.

 

That would be interesting. I was just responding to the idea that her punishment will be 4-5 years of confinement, when the show established earlier that nobody gets out of there anymore. Unless the laws have changed, of course, but that doesn't follow the story logic of an ever-increasing authoritarianism.

 

The point is that the Empire loses within 5 years of the end of this show. Most likely the NR liberate the prison some time between Endor (4 years) and Jakku (5 years). In a previous comment I mentioned that if the Rebellion/Republic knows who she is, she probably gets life in a conventional prison or execution for her war crimes. Another poster responded that such punishments would be unfair/unjust/cruel to a survivor of a Narkina prison. I know the Empire isn't releasing her, and I doubt they even gave her the PRETENSE of a limited sentence.

 

She's not in prison for a genocide though. She's in prison for breaking protocols during an investigation, and this breaking of protocol led to a leak of Death Star information.

The New Republic would likely release her if they didn't know she was involved with the Ghorman massacre. I think they probably would though, so what would happen is she would be held in custody and tried again for her crimes.

If an Imperial Remnant found any value in her -- and they would because of Ghorman -- they would try to break her out while being transported to or from trial.

 

I think it would depend if Wilmon was still alive at that point or Bix or Kleya. If those three aren't, I'm not sure anyone else would know who she is, given Andor and Luthen are already dead.

 

I know she wasn't in prison for genocide, as much as I know she wasn't in prison for a 4-5 year sentence. My point is about whether it would be just for the Rebellion/Republic to release her because of the time she has served on Narkina, which would be determined by what is an appropriate punishment for the crimes the Rebellion/Republic would charge her with, or at least accuse her of.
As far as the likelihood that they know who they have when they break up the prison, I'm sure the Rebels would have made a record of Dedra's culpability in the Ghorman massacre. For me the bigger question is what kind of documentation the Empire put her in with. Do they have record keeping on her name/history/crime/"sentence"? Or do they put her in as a "Jane Doe" with a fictitious crime? I can imagine you don't pull up her record and get "Leaked information about the Death Star" in her file, so how much is her identity obscured?

 

Right. I was just talking about the intention, which was to imprison her for life. Not least as she knows ways too much for the Empire to let out of that prison.

Based on the ancillary material about the New Republic? My guess is that she’ll be let out. If she doesn’t get fried first.

 

Don't forget the Amnesty program for Imperials the NR had around the time of Mando Season 3. I could imagine Dedra becoming a part of that.
