One of my fav. scenes in aotc is when Anakin returns to the homestead with his mother in his arms, it looks like he purposly shows his mother's dead body to the Lars'. It actually stands infront of Cliegg for a breif moment then walks past as if to say "look, my mothers dead and its your fault."
Did anyone else get the same impression?

    Anakin blames himself!

The Lars tried their best. 30 of them went out and they were killed, only a few survived their failed rescue operation. The Lars tried their best.

    Anakin blamed himself

Yes, Anakin blamed himself. He was mad that she died, but I wasn't under the impression that he blamed Cliegg or Owen for it. He leaves Padme with them while he goes to hunt for Shmi, telling her, "These are good people, Padme, you'll be safe."

Anakin knew that Cliegg had tried to save his wife but wasn't able to, and ended up losing his leg in the process. Anakin is angry at himself for not listening to his own nightmares sooner.

The novelization has Cliegg saying, "If only he had gotten here sooner..." right after Anakin left. It also describes Anakin's look at Cliegg when he's carrying Shmi's body as "The two men exchanged a moment of grief."

I watched the scene four times this week and I still get the impression that Anakin feels that Lars did give up on his mother. If Lars truly loved Shmi, nothing would have prevented him for locating his wife's body. When Anakin goes to find his mother, Lars tells him to give up, that is why Anakin gives Lars that look, as if he is telling him "She was alive, and you give up on her."

He didn't place the blame of Shmi's death on the Lars. He knew they loved her. He placed the blame on Obi-Wan, it seems.

I think Anakin blamed it on himself, though he may have thought that if Clieg had tried harder he could have rescued Shmi.

Well actually, Skywalker blamed the right people. The Sand People killed Shmi, not the Lars. She was minding her own business when they took her.

The fault is with the Sand People and no one else.
