well, there is all that stuff in the back of Dark Empire probably made it into a Sidious Holocron.

and if i am not mistaken, in the newest Ultimate Guide to Locations - the vivisection of Palpatines headquarters on Coruscant had a "Holocron Recording Station" -- but i dont have that book handy to make sure i am not imagining it.

i have never heard anything about Vader...

perhaps apprentices just don't really do that sort of thing.

Yeah, you would think at least Palpatine, being a Sith Lord and all, would make one.

i really cant remember if Holocrons were invented in the EU back when Dark Empire came out.

I can only guess that anything that would have been in a "book" when it comes to all that certainly holocron-applicable diatribe would obviously been found in a Holocron.
it all depends on whether or not the EU had invented them yet.

I am relatively certain that Holocrons were created for TotJ and, consequently, were not yet in existence at the time of DE. I could be wrong about this, but I really can't remember anything having to do with Holocrons pre-TotJ, and they figure prominently at that point.

Holocrons were invented for DE. It featured Bodo Baas' holocron.

I doubt Palpatine would make a holocron. He clearly expected to live forever, so wouldn't have recorded his knowledge for future generations, and he wrote a number of physical books for his other darksiders to learn from.

As for Vader, I really can't see him making one either, though he might have had he ever become the Sith Master.

I just read Dark Empire I and an ancient Jedi holocron that Luke takes from the Emperor is a major plot point.

i dont know if palpatine necessarily was certain he'd live forever...

i have to believe since DE had holocrons in it -- then palpatine's diatribes at the end of each issue definitely went into his -- and hopefully this means we might see it pop up on of these days...

especially since E. Brand swollowed palps up and made it relatively impossible to ever see him again -- then that makes his holocron the only way we ever get a little taste of him again!

Palpatine didn't make a holocron because he did not intend to die.

I don't really think Palpatine would've ever bothered making a Holocron. Making a Holocron means you're leaving a record for other people in the future. Palpatine wasn't planning to die. And even if he did ever die, he wasn't ever going to help anybody else with his knowledge. Even without his clone bodies, Palpatine could've jumped somewhere else if not for Brand dragging him down into the afterlife with him.

Vader... maybe, but if it wasn't in one of his castles, I doubt it. Anyway, who knows if Palpatine ever taught Vader how to make one. True, Vader was powerful, but part of being Sith means keeping one's apprentice on a short leash. Well, at least being a smart Sith means doing so. If the master ever runs out of useful info and just tells the apprentice everything... well, I think Sidious' master was killed in his sleep.

Have they ever said if its possible for the current Jedi to make Holocrons by the way? Luke should still have a couple lying around, though several have been destroyed over the years, but whether they'd tell how to make Holocrons... well, who knows.

I was under the impression that Palps didn't know how to make a holocron at the time of DE.

Yeah, I seem to remember some source mentioning holocrons being "lost" technology ie something the ancient Jedi and Sith knew how to do build that modern generations no longer can do.

I think that the Jedi have relearned how to make holocrons.

Palpatine couldn't figure out how to make a holocron, and had to resort to a "crude device" (holocam) to record his yammerings.

Of course, now that everyone and their uncle has one (even Nihilus, for whatever reason), a retcon or two might be a decent idea.

Bane's order had a "master" holocron as such, and, as far as I know, no individual in his order made their own - they seemed to have all the information in this collective one.

If he had one, I bet Sidious would record one. I never really saw him as much of an artifact enthusiast, though, even if it could benefit the Sith as a whole. I'll say no.

Ah, never mind then. DE isn't very high on my frequency-of-rereading list. Oops.

I tend to enjoy thinking of it in the sence that his vanity alone would not allow him to NOt make one. I mean, He alone had done what all the millenium of sith before couldnt come close to doing. Also, even if one never dies, we all forget things. If the force is a vast and endless plane, then Id imagine that there would be times when you wanted to recall something and couldnt. It would be nice to have the instructions on it, instead of trying to relearn it.

Palps seriously thought he was going to live forever. I'm beginning to think his masters "Keep people from dying trick" was just transfering your spirit into another body. He wouldn't have made a holocron b/c he thought he was immortal. Why teach others what they can use against you later?

Beyond Palpatine's books, it's unknown, but possible. As for Vader, it's very unlikely that he really cared.
