When Yoda told the politicians about the Clone army, how did he hide the fact that he didn?t know about them without taking responsibility for them?

    (no Ep 3 spoilers, please)

When did Yoda tell the politicans about the Clone army? I assume Palpatine did all that when he told them he would create a grand army of the Republic.

Some people have been telling me that because of the line "We need that clone Army" that Yoda told some of the politicians about it. Its terribly confusing. Whenever I make up my mind as to what happened, someone tells me I'm wrong.

I don't know how to start a poll, but maybe we should start one about whether or not he did tell any politicians.

I don't think I understand you. I thought hiding the fact that he didn't know about them WAS not taking responsibilty for them...

I think he means because Obi-Wan's message to Yoda and Mace was a private message. No one else saw it. Yoda must have told the Senate at some point, because they all knew about the Clones later in the movie. :)

Yes. There are a few ways this can be explained:
    A) It only appears that others knew about the clones, but they didn't. "We need those clones!" refers to the vote in the opening scroll (ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC).

    B) Yoda told the senators all about the clone army anyway, abandoning his plan to keep it a secret.

    C) Yoda pretended he knew about the Clones for the last 10 years, in order to save face and not multiply adversaries.

All answers are inconsistent with other parts of the movie.

But if he preteneded he knew all along, wouldn't that make the Jedi look really bad? They were keeping a sercret from the Republic, and people might start wondering why exactly they were hiding a massive army.

exactly, but I only say this because most people seem to assume that when he told them, he hid the fact that he'd been blind about their existence.

So it has to be one or the other.

Option A is correct, and doesn not conflict with other parts of the movie.

The line does not mention "Clone" army specifically. It merely says that they need "that" army. "That", of course, being a reference to the Army whose necessity is being discussed currently in the Senate--the debate for which is mentioned in the opening credits as the reason Padme comes to Coruscant.

Basically, what happened in that line is that a Senator in favor of that bill was saying "I told you so."

There is no more to it, and it certainly has nothing to do with Yoda.

    As printed in the script:

ASK AAK: The debate is over! Now we need that clone army...

BAIL ORGANA: Unfortunately, the debate is not over. The
Senate will never approve the use of the clones before the
    separatists attack.
