PT Do you think Anakin would of aged better ?

If he wasn't on the darkside and had remained a jedi. Kind of hard to imagine that he went from strapping handsome lad to well...you know (even if we take into account the burn wounds).

 

obi-wan and anakin were both thought to be older i think at the time of the making of the OT

Anakin was 45 years old when he died.

 

In the backstory GL came up for Anakin during the making of ROTJ:

1) Anakin and Obi-Wan were roughly the same age, with Obi-Wan probably being a few years older
2) Anakin fell to the Dark Side some time before he was wounded, and before the twins were born

I'm happy they changed it to a much younger Anakin.

 

I was corrected he is 45 when he dies, but ya I am glad they changed it for continuity reasons.

 

If he had the scars - he wouldn't look so good either way.
If he didn't, as was said, he is only 45 after the retcon & that's why Hayden fits better. Anakin was supposed to be older originally.

It's not about Sebastian Shaw aging "well" or not, it's all about the fact that Sebastian Shaw was 78 there. That's an enormous difference. He looks pretty damn good for 78.

 

I think for ROTJ they needed someone who looks fatherly to Luke (Mark wasn't very young himself at that point).

 

You don't age very well when you get set on fire, and stuffed in a life support system for the next 25 years of your life.

Regardless of the injuries, Anakin was way too old to be 44 - 45 years of age.

 

Anakin certainly wouldn't have aged like fine wine, but he would have looked rather nice for a 45 year old especially if he kept up with his active Jedi lifestyle. Obi-Wan on the other hand really let himself go, such a shame...

Originally Luke's father was to be a similar age as Obi-Wan, but then when Obi-Wan's former pupil turned out to be the same person as Vader, Lucas had to consolidate that and make Anakin younger to fulfill the description.

Despite the fact that it was known even back then that Vader would be in his 40s/50s, the crew was really fixated on 77 year-old Sebastian Shaw for his acting experience, which had to range between the pitiful Vader and the proud Anakin Skywalker. Age really wasn't much a consideration when your face is completely covered in prosthetics for your closeups. Besides, he looks younger than Obi-Wan when they're side by side (it looks like he's made up to look more youthful here). Easily passable as someone in their 50s and not an issue as far as I'm concerned.
