i think that Chewbacca is and always has been the best thing about Star Wars,he is one of the few reasons i have the movies,he is the best thing about the movies,i just hate to think that i will never see him in any of the new jedi order books,i think that the best thing they could do would be to make a movie about Chewbacca, like the comics only in movie form, and i'm sorry if i sound rude or something but this is what i think.

They bumped off old admiral Ackbar in one of the EU books (I'm no specialist so I can't name it). It seems to me that whenever inspiration dries up they kill off a major player. Sure I can respect that in such a precarious lifestyle nobody's immortal but I'm waiting for the day when I read that Luke's been killed by the angry ghost of Uncle Owen or some other such rubbish.

I think Chewbacca's death was a good thing.(WAIT DON'T FLAME, READ ON!) The EU universe was becoming more and more dissmissive of Chewie. In book after book chewie recieved no more reconition than a side comment or breif cameo.

Then suddenly in Vector Prime everthing got turned upside down. The authors focased on the emotional turmoil his death incurred and what a vital part of their adventures he was. Han slummed around home in a near-death state of depression. He often would forget chewie wasn't there. Anikin recoiled inward to deal with the selfloathing and selfanalisis his leaving chewie had forced upon him. The entire solo-skywalker clan was torn apart by greif and coping turmoil.

Imediantly Chewbacca became the heroic partner that he should have been. An entire comic book seris was written to honor him. Every book since then makes a big deal over chewbacca's absence.

So Peter, by having your charachter die he has become even more loved and appreaciated.

Not to mention more likely to apear in Episode III!

Though I must mention I was slightly pissed when James Luceno created a sorta' sidekick for Han in Droma. (Who is he kidding? Droma's no Chewbacca!)

Mr. Peter Mayhew. I have 4 questions.

    1. If you could be any household appliance, what would you be and why?

    2. Did you get to keep any props from the movies?

    3. What is an amusing blooper or funny occurence that happened in the filming of one the movies?

    4. Who is your favorite SW character, besides Chewbacca?

I guess it does kind of stink if you are like me and want to read the njo that we have to do without chewie. I personally think its interesting that they offed the wook, and it took a lot to get him too, nothing to be ashamed of. Yet if you don't want him to be dead you don't have to have that in your Universe. Just block it out and say hes trying to protect his family on his Kashykk or something. I do the same thing with any mention of the Dark Empire series. Cloned emperors and what not. The hard part is making up a different reason for Han to be sad - pretend he had a fourth child or something who bit it, I dunno just trying to help

    //Best Han Voice

    Its not my fault!

maybe you are right,i don't know,i guess it's not the most awful thing that could happen in star wars,i just don't see why it was Chewie.
i think i speek (or would that be type) my mind too much sometimes, sorry.

Having Chewie killed off proved that the Vong are a viable threat. If everyone got by with just a few scratches then the Vong would face some serious credibility issues as a threat, thus having Chewie killed off, while saddening, was necessary.

Mr. Mayhew, which SW action figures do you like better, the original ones or the newer ones in production right now?? Which set do you think has a better likeness of Chewie???

    Thanks

OH God! I'm going to vape you Ackbar! If Mr Mayhew sees this, please ignore the fanatic. He is what the EUDF calls a EU Basher. He's worse than the ones I've seen, but this could get ugly. Anyone who is against facism please help my wingmates and I wipe this menace from the face of this site.

Let me first say that I have read, with interest, all 845 posts to this thread. What can I say? I know that the death of Chewie was an emotional one that went round the world. I assume that is what the Lucas people were looking for. I, for one, had a 70 year old woman come up to me in the laundromat in Keighley, Yorkshire and comment about it. She was a little distraught. Goodness gracious me!! Let's remember, guys, it's a story. Now when my daughters received phone calls of condolensce from people who thought I was dead instead of Chewie...that got a little strange as I was out of the country and out of touch with the family at that particular moment in time. Yes, it really did happen. But, being level headed, the girls decided to withhold judgement about my death until Monday and were rewarded with my continued presence, love and support.

I'm sorry everyone. I know Ackbar in the real world and told him about tjis site. he then told me he was looking for a place to test some stuff he learned in psych class. Then I guess he decided to see if he could start a war. sorry everyone.

Damn, that must have been one nerve-wracking weekend for your daughters. At least you'll be laughing about it further down the road. And thanks again for sharing your thoughts on Chewie, Mr. Mayhew.

Favorite Star Wars character besides Chewbacca....easy, R2-D2. Because if Chewie isn't saving the day, R-2 is. The character of R2-D2 does actually appear to be the hero of all Star Wars movies so far. He seems to be the saviour of the New Republic. He takes messages from Leia, saves the day in cloud city, all doors are open to R2, all hyperdrives can be repaired, he is our rebellion enabler.

    Three cheers for R2.

I don't think you can get a stronger statment than that.

Three cheers for Mr. Mayhew for a great quote.

And while we are talking about R2D2, let's give credit to Don Bies, the chief "wrangler" for the R2D2 unit. The science of Robotics has come so far it is hard to believe. I would like to see more of the crew get more credit for their efforts.

Yes, Don Bies was the wrangler for Empire and Jedi, and Brian Hanes was the wrangler for Star Wars...good comment...and fairly obscure information...

Jabba's Palace scene showing our hero in chains...the huge monster of Jabba looming, that needed three people (or more) to operate it...and Jabba eating live frogs, no I jest, they were expanded foam rubber painted green. But the scary part was when Boussh opened the thermal detonator which was about the size of a baseball. Chewie was taken down to the cells by the Gammorean Guards and, no, I didn't hit my head, but only just missed it...It was filmed in a lot of small sections because of the rancor pit underneath and the whole set that had to be slid around.
