Honestly Padme wasn't Portman's best role. She was wooden in TPM. The love scenes and chemistry in AOTC were cringe worthy. She was better in ROTS but even then there were a few cringe scenes in ROTS as well. I'm not a prequel basher but I have to admit the dialogue and some of the acting performances were just not where they could have been.

She was absolutely amazing as a 12 year old in Leon the Professional. Her acting performance in that was 10x better than anything she did in Star Wars. She's also had much better performances since Star Wars. So ya I can see her not wanting to talk about Star Wars too much.

To be fair, the dialogue in Star Wars can be trying, to quote Mr. Ford, “George you can write this shish, but you can’t say it.”

I don't think that is a fitting comparison at all. Star Wars made Harrison Ford a star, but the same cannot be said about Portman or Driver.

Portman was an acclaimed child-actor prior to the PT. She actually had a rather tough time during and right after the prequels. Though her first really acclaimed role (in terms of big award consideration) came at the tail-end of it in the form of Closer. Her real breakthrough to stardom came around 2010, way after the prequels. Just because she was in the prequels and eventually ended up becoming a star, doesn't mean that Star Wars caused her to become a star. Correlation doesn't equal causation.

Driver did get some attention prior to Star Wars, and very much became a star at the end of it. But that wasn't so much due to Star Wars, but to other projects that happened at the same time.

Only one of the three was made a star because of Star Wars. The other two were in Star Wars and turned into stars due to other roles.

My point is Star Wars makes you notice them. I never knew who Adam Driver was till he played Kylo, now he is one of my favorite actors. I never noticed Portman till she played Padme. My point is they may have done films before that got them acclaim, but Star Wars makes them more visible to those not already following their career. Its like playing 007, it places a spotlight on the star to be in a major franchise.

What? The Force Awakens is one of the biggest movies of all time. Certainly this is what made Adam Driver a star. Critical acclaim isn't the same as having a star making role, or being famous. Adam Driver and Natalie Portman became immensely well known, if not household names, because of Star Wars. Even they would tell you that.

To the topic at hand: No, Natalie Portman doesn't hate Star Wars. Read some interviews and see for yourself...

the OT was filled with cringed as well. even the biggest fanboy/actor- mark hamill, admit that.

    not even close.
if it hadnt had the "star wars" tag on it, it would be the biggest flop ever.

I think she's pretty samey across her filmography. I went into Black Swan with different expectations given the acclaim but I still heard Padme line deliveries. Which isn't a problem for me given that I don't have any issues with her PT performances, just that largely I don't see them as all that different from what else she's done.

Garden State is the one role of hers where I see the character more than the actor, and like I mentioned before, she's not exactly enthusiastic about that movie anymore.

I think her performances are hit or miss depending on her director and co stars. I think Leon the Professional and Garden State are probably her 2 best performances IMO. Padme...not so great.

This makes no sense. Essentially you are saying: If things were different, they wouldn't be the same. No duh.

If you had no internet access, I couldn't read your thoughts in this forum. So what?

    ehh... whh......
i dont know what you just said, but i can still say without any shadow of a doubt, the tag "star wars" is automatic money printer. there are millions of fans who will buy literally anything that has an official SW tag on it. and that is an undeniable truth.

if i get a random used cup, write on it "star wars" and convince a fan its an official collectible, he will buy it, for whatever price (in reason).
the ST is a random used cup tagged with "star wars" and advertised as official release.

Relevant to this year, she had some pretty AOTC-esque line deliveries in Thor and especially in The Dark World in my opinion.

I think I've only ever seen her in 'The Other Boleyn Girl' outside Star Wars.

She did ok in that. A lot better than her performance as Padme anyway.

TPM was her most stilted performance, She seemed like it was all somehow 'below her' in my view. She did soften though as the PT went on. She didn't seem to have any chemistry with anyone in TPM too, and seemed more natural around Christensen and Mcgregor.

I disagree. I thought she was solid in Thor 1. In The Dark World though, I thought she was more, to me, seemed blah about it, imo.

Honestly I find her more stern "wooden" act in TPM fitting for the role: she is a young queen in a crisis of her planet she never experienced. She gets more open and connected as Padme on tatooine (though she remains cold to Qui-Gon mostly concerning Pod-Race deal) but all her acts as queen are very cold and distanced which is fitting IMO. I honestly love her in Ep I (and all of the PT for that matter).

I don’t think so, because from the interviews that have been posted in this thread by other users, it seems that Natalie doesn’t hate Padmé. Until a few years ago she probably didn’t like talking about what she did in Star Wars because of the backlash, and not because she hates the character herself. I think Adam Driver feels the same way too, even though he openly stated that Kylo Ren deserved much more and that he didn’t like the ending of his story.

As someone else has already said, even in the Original Trilogy there are extremely cringe moments. Moreover, the dialogues in the love scenes had to be cringe, because if they weren't then it wouldn't have made any sense. Can you imagine Anakin behaving like Han Solo, despite the fact that before trying to win over Padmé he never tried to win over any other woman in his entire life? Come on, it’s unrealistic...

Oh yeah, that video is the funniest but at the same time most badass thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. When I first saw it on advice of @Samnz I had 5 orgasms at once.

Honestly I think if you paid her enough she would come back for a cameo role. It’s definitely not her favorite work. Nor is it her best.

It worked out well for her and Ewan as they both became very great actors in their own respect. I would say Portman is more well known than Ewan. But that’s neither here nor there.

I do get the sense that she somewhat looks down on the films, and fans, in just that she prefers more mature/serious and artistic films rather than commercial action films for kids, commercialism generally (I recall she suggested she hated her image being on Pizza Hut and KFC products), although she did later do the Marvel Thor films so she probably does at least somewhat enjoy making and being associated with commercial action films now and then as balance.

She has also sometimes complained about the negative reaction to the prequels hurting her chances to be in other films so from admitting that her trying to distance herself from them seems trying to help her career, not alienate or limit the alienation from those who didn't like the films and her performance in them, then with her gaining other acclaimed roles she can be not so distant or dismissive from them.

I can imagine she'd come back to the role after Christensen and McGregor had such a positive experience on Kenobi.

I guess you'd have to ask her to be sure. Personally I'd find it a little unfair to hate on a movie that made you famous. Same with Jake Lloyd. It's not Lucas' or SW's fault those hateful and toxic "fans" spread so much negativity and hatred. Blame them, not the movies or their creator.

Well the issue is that she didn't come out of the PT in a way that enhanced he career. I have even heard some say the PT hurt her career a bit. Plus those films were often crapped on by people, so i could see her coming away from the PT not look at them very positive light.

But that the same time. Time is a good healing. And there has been a resurgence of love for the PT and im sure she has heard it. I believe she has spoken about her awareness of it fairly recently in an interview.

I think because her career has gone so well she can look back at it in a positive light.

in terms of whether she would come back... i think she would. I just don't know if she would be willing to cameo. I think she would have to have quite a decent role and a bit of substance for Padme to make it really enticing for her. If she hasn't got anything to work with, i don't think she would do it.

She doesn't hate it just the nerds associated with it.

If you all leave her alone maybe she would have time to answer my fan mail / love letters.
