And they're going to entrust one of their three biggest assets to Dan Akroyd? Yikes.

(I should say that Dan Akroyd is a p chill dude, and I like him, but he's sort of mental)

It was always sort of his baby to begin with, but he was smart enough to bring in others like Ramis and Reitman to guide the ship and Murray to be the face of the franchise. Without those three elements it's not the same beast.

Ummm Ghostbusters 2 was awful. It has the ****ing Statue of Liberty stomping around and covered in semen at one point. It makes Men in Black II look like The Godfather Part II. Let the damn franchise die already.

Yeah, his whole family has been big into the ghost stuff since like his greatgrandfather. His dad wrote a pretty good book about the history of ghosts and seances and stuff.

Not angry, just perplexed that people still want this franchise to continue.

Yeah this is stupid. There are no comedic actors currently(male or female) who can compete with 80's prime Murray, Akroyd, and Ramis.

There is really no reason for this to continue. The ghostbusters were those guys. The proton packs and ghosts were just a seasoning/vehicle for those guys to do their comedy.

    Without them it doesn't work.

Not to mention, a guy like Feige isn't even close to a comedic director than Ivan Rietman was back in the day.

    Tina Fey
    Amy Poehler
    Kristen Wiig
    Melissa McCarthy
    Lucy Liu
    Taraji P Henson

Take your pick of any four quality actresses and demographics with good comedy timing and not too much baggage. Will it be the original? No. Can it be done? Sure.

If Paul Feig directs, I think Melissa McCarthy is an almost certainty; even if they don't go the all female cast route. Any "Next generation" premise would likely involve at least one female Ghostbuster, and with their history together and McCarthy's newfound star power it seems like a no brainer. Whether it's a good idea or not is another matter.

dp4m list could very well be the cast. We all know that the original had a strong SNL flavor, and many of those actresses fit the archetypes; McCarthy as the smart aleck Venkman type. Poehler as somewhat more innocent Stantz type. Fey could pull off the cerebral Spengler role.

Personally I'm not crazy about an "All" female cast, but it's a pretty good time for comedic female actresses right now, and there are a lot of really talented women to choose from.

Gonna sound misogynistic, but I really don't want to see an all female cast. Well, maybe not so much the female cast, as it is turning GB3 into a possible female comedy. Plus the easy picks for cast members..I mean.....I'll shoot myself if McCarthy is in this film.

Emma Stone, #$%@ yeah. She would back a great Ghostbuster, she has the range. Ellen Page, yeah hell. Maybe even Kristen Whig.

I still like Max Landis idea, and my dream cast is still Woody Harrilson, Emma Stone, and Donald Glover.

Oh well. Told you guys it was gonna happen regardless. Definitly not my choice of direction. Hope they realise the possibility of only getting one demographic in the seats.

**** that. I don't wanna see any cast.

Without Murray, Akroyd, and Ramis there is no Ghostbusters. This should have died when Ramis did. The whole reason the original worked was the chemistry between those actors. Not to mention, top writing of Akroyd and Ramis with Rietman directing.

Just handing proton packs to another set of comedic actors isn't going to work. Ghostbusters is about those specific characters. Not the concept.

Anything else will be just a clunky imitation or self conscious parody of the original film.

^ I agree 1,000%. Hollywood just should let this die. Some sequels or reboots simply don't need to happen. Especially if they'll be lacking the magical elements that made the original film so special.

See that's the thing. That's the battle you can't win. And to be fair to Hollywood, why can't a new GB film work with a new cast? You don't really have a great arguement against that except stating that it worked to perfect with the original cast, so therefore it can't work with a new. That's debateable, and also something Hollywood isn't gonna take to much stake in. There are always ways.

This film was always going to happen. It's a money making idea. The discussion shouldn't be, "they shouldn't make it because of XYZ." The discussion should be, "if they are going to make it, which direction should they go?"

So far I'm not liking this new direction.

    1) The world/concept that it uses isn't interesting enough to just inject new characters and make it work. It was a very delicate dynamic between those original actors.
2)There are no comedic actors currently who come close to 80's Murray, Akroyd, and Ramis.

As far as having effect on what the studio does? I don't any effect other than I'm not going to see it. Its probably going to be huge bomb. I mean for christsake they had the original cast for the sequel and it didn't work. Good luck doing that with completely new set of characters.

Just because a studio CAN do it. Doesn't mean they SHOULD do it or that its even worth doing at all.

Yeah, because a giant marshmallow man stomping through Manhattan with a giant smile on it's face, which then blows up and looks like he's splooged all over a guy is so much better.

There's so much money potential in a Ghostbusters franchise that it's hard to imagine avoiding a reboot forever, even though it would be great if we could avoid a reboot forever.

Have it about the remaining Ghostbusters holding an intervention so Bill Murray reverts back to being the fun 'Caddyshack'/'Stripes' Bill Murray and not the pretentious Wes Anderson Bill Murray...

anderson films are fun in their own way. he has a unique voice and style, but i'd hardly call it pretentious. he's not afraid to be silly. besides i'd hate for a man in his 60's to feel like he had to keep repeating the roles he played 30 years earlier. i think murray's done a pretty good job of staying interesting and relevant, and having fun with it all along the way.
