I heard a lot from people, especially in the top ten jedi/sith topic, that people rate dooku very low. Some people even put Obi-wan before Dooku which is down right stupid to do knowing the fact that he got schooled twice by dooku. He held his own with Yoda, and most likely could take on Mace windu as well.

It says that only two people have ever bested Mace and thats Yoda and Dooku. Yeah i know that's EU crap but it's just more of stating a fact then actually telling a story/event outside of the movies so i wouldn't even call it EU myself. Mace is second to Yoda IN THE JEDI ORDER, not overall. Sidious would not choose an apprentice so easily killed. If he did, the order would just send a powerful jedi master to finish off dooku and end the war. But they don't do you know why? First off they don't know his exact location, and secondly because basically nobody can take him(besides Yoda)!

I remember George Lucas said somewhere that the new sith apprentice gets stronger and stronger in each movie. It goes from Maul, Dooku, To Anakin. Maul being the weekest, while Anakin the strongest of the three, and Dooku being smack dab in the middle.

And no. I'm NOT a dooku fanboy. If anything, i would be an Anakin fanboy if i was one. I'm just trying to give the respect that Dooku deserves.

While Mace is the most overated character, Dooku is the most underated.

i rate count dooku rather highly....and i love his combination of experience and elegance.

here is what i wrote about him in my ranking system:

Count Dooku/Darth Tyrannus (he employs the best of both worlds...being trained by Master Yoda, he has exceptional technique, pacing, and footwork. being trained by Darth Sidious he has high level sith force powers that allow him to gain distance from mulitple or superior attackers. his lightsaber skill is very high and combined with his force powers and experience he is Sith Lord material. he is also the only character in the PT that seems to be able to fight with a lightsaber while pausing only momentarily to exercise Force powers)

based on current power levels i only rank Yoda, Sidious, Mace, Anakin(pre-suit), and Luke higher

I agree...Dooku is definitely one of the most underrated characters in Star Wars...

and to add to what Commander76 said, Dooku was trained by BOTH Yoda (for a couple of decades, plus training from his other master Thame Cerulian) and Sidious (from whom which Dooku learned his Sith abilities). And unlike typical "Siths", Dooku did not give in to mindless anger in any of his fights. He also did not let the Dark Side of the force consume him to the point of insanity (like Anakin and Palpatine :p).

Dooku was a man who knew what he wanted and used the dark side of the force to advance his goals.

I'd say more about "the man" (Dooku :D), but I've already said everything there is to say about him in other Dooku related threads ;)!

So therefore, I would like to summarize this post by saying:
    DOOKU ROCKS!!!

...And he shouldn't have "died" the way he did :p! (I swear, Anakin just killed a Dooku CLONE :p)

I'd put Dooku at #5 of all the people we've seen duel with sabers.

    1. Anakin Skywalker
    2. Yoda
    3. Chancellor Palpatine
    4. Luke Skywalker
    5. Count Dooku
    6. Obi-Wan Kenobi
    7. Mace Windu
    8. Darth Maul
    9. Qui-Gon Jinn
    10. Darth Vader (in the Suit)
    11. Cin Drallig
    12. Grievous
    13. Kit Fisto
    14. Saesee Tiin

You're right, Dooku is underrated. He is an immensely powerful Sith Lord and he's level-headed about it. He's not this mad sorcerer or an impulsive apprentice. He's calm, reasoned, matter of fact, and deadly.

And Brook_33, you gotta be kidding with that list. Luke belongs at the bottom end, for sure: he's much too slow. Mace is better than Maul? Please. Mace proves absolutely nothing with his saber in the PT, while Maul is able to fight two Jedi at once and kill a Master.

I don't see why Dooku should be rated so highly for someone so grossly underdeveloped for the space of time he's in the movies. He didn't garner enough respect from his own creator to get a meatier, more meaningful role (and a meaningful death). That being said, the potential for this character was considerable.

Dooku would be pretty high on my list. I agree that luke is really low. The only advantage he had was that he was vader's son and he had the best chance of bringing him back to the lightside.

for me dooku would be number 3 on my list right after
    1.Yoda/Sidious
    2.Anakin
    3.Dooku
    4.Mace Windu
    5.Obi-wan
    6.Maul
    7.Qui-Gon
    8.Luke
    9.Plo Koon
    10.Ki-Adi Mundi

Not to make this a power ranking topic again. We already have enough of them.

My last post wasn't in terms of ranking. I meant I was puzzled at the amount of attention or adoration he has gotten. It just seems out of proportion to his presence in the movies.

I would have my list as follows:

    1.Palpantine
    2.Anakin
    3.Yoda
    4.Dooku
    5.Obi-Wan

Dooku is a fairly good swordsman, and he kicked Obi-Wan's ass twice, so therefore, he goes ahead of Obi-Wan. He may have sliced off Anakin's arm, but Anakin took off two hands and his head. Anakin also burned alive.

I dont know about other people but the reason I hate Dooku is because he is too elegant and controlled to be a Sith.

When I think of a Sith, I think of rage, aggression and hatred. Dooku portrayed none of those.

Maul killed Qui-Gon with no hesitation.
Sidious killed 4 Jedi Masters with no hesitation.
Anakin killed THOUSANDS of Jedi with no hesitation.

Dooku had an opportunity to kill Obi-Wan and instead of giving into his hate and doing it right away, he swung his cute little lightsaber around which gave Anakin time to stop him.

I know Dooku is an awesome duelist, but when it came to being a Sith: he was too old, elegant and classy. SITH ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ANGRY!!!!!

lol, I knew I would most likely see Cmdr Gabe here . It is involving Dooku .

Personally , Dooku is great and underrated . He has an amazing style . Just look at my Sig . He did defeat obi wan twice , pretty cool for us knowing obi was fighting his master's master . Anyone that tought Qui-Gon must be skilled !

Really? I thought Christopher Lee did an excellent job playing Dooku. He was the perfect actor for the job. Dooku is very cool and confident in his abilities, kind of cocky, has a lot of charm, and a very good mannered person. Hard to believe that Dooku is actually a sith lord!

I love the fact that DOOKU stands out so much from the other sith lords . He is relaxed and an elegant fighter, but he is yet so evil. Does not show his evil like others but basks in his power .

    Dooku is very underrated.

For all the fanboys, consider this...

Name another Jedi or Sith that are masters of both light and darkside powers?

How many Jedi or Sith could fight Yoda to a draw? (Two, Sidious and Mace)

How powerful is a Jedi/Sith when he was considered second amongst all Jedi BEFORE he became a master of the darkside?

How many Jedi/Sith have the charisma and skills to convert thousands of star systems willingly to rebel against the Republic?

Lucas meant Dooku to be amongst the top three or four of the Jedi/Sith in power. Otherwise, Anakin's defeat of Dooku would not be as impressive, or momentous as it was.

    P.S.
Dooku was taking it easy on Anakin. Everyone knows it ;)

    P.S. II

Dooku didn't merely have a good saber style, he had the BEST sabre technique of all the Jedi. Makashi is far superior to all techniques...even Vaapad!

    P.S.

In which episode? 2 or 3? If it was 2 then yes he was completly toying with Anakin there. Rots? No. Anakin just became too powerful for even Dooku to handle. He had what was coming to him.

Dooku didn't merely have a good saber style, he had the BEST sabre technique of all the Jedi. Makashi is far superior to all techniques...even Vaapad!

This lightsaber form is only good against opponents with lightsabers. It can't block a blaster bolt for crap, so he would probably have to change forms if someone came at him with a blaster. I'm not sure it's better then vaapad, but Dooku's better then the jedi master who used vaapad!

I really do like dooku, and I think Christopher Lee did an amazing job bringing him to life!

The elegance, the virtue, I only wish I could be more like him!

But with that, I do think he died stupidly..maybe on the extended they will have an elongated fight scene between Ani and Dooki...

The look on Dooku's face when Palps said,"Kill him." it made me want to cry...

I really like Dooku's character. I think, in fact, that they could have done away with the Greivous character and gone more into Dooky, and Palpatine's betrayal of him.

Dooku was a sort of in between character, seemed as he was peeved at the ineptness of the government and the Jedi who protected it. I think it is a character that surely deserved more screentime.

    Nah, Qui-Gon is!

In the prequel trilogy I feel there are a lot of characters that are interesting and that deserved more airtime (but the EU is there for that too). Count Dooku is one of them. However, I still think Qui-Gon is neglected way too much in the remaining movies. I would have liked to see Qui-Gon's ghost in six and more references to him in III and even II. Hopefully future edits will rectify this situation.

Qui-Gon is underated I agree with that. He is by far my favorite jedi! Although he is a powerful jedi, he's not THE most powerful jedi, but powerful non the less.

But the thing that people fail to relize is that his knolledge of the force is greater then any jedi, making him the best jedi of all time. He found out how to become immortal through the force, which is what the ultimate goal for every sith is:immortality. And a JEDI found out how, not a sith. He is not the most powerful, but the best. Meaning your knolledge ( i know...spelling) of the force, how you hold true to the jedi code, intelligence, and your accompishments as a jedi/sith.
