I can understand spoiling the movie they're watching, cuz who watches a movie for the first time while listening to commentary? That's just odd.

Other movies, maybe a little iffy, but I would imagine anything that's been at least on DVD for a decent amount of time should be fair game. Thanks to the internet, I'm aware Soylent Green is made of people, yet I'm still curious to see it. More recently, I knew Snape killed Dumbledore long before I saw that movie. If I'd read the books, I would've known even sooner. [shrug]

JediCow, glad you enjoyed the commentary.

The intros tend to be between six and ten minutes, yeah. Do you watch the movie with the commentary? The reason I ask is, the overwhelming majority of the listeners actually don't, they just treat it as a podcast one-off about a certain movie, and for those people, the discussion before the film and the commentary itself are basically the same thing and where one ends and the other begins doesn't matter so much.

As for spoilers...yeah, we're guilty of that. We tend to adopt a ten year statute of limitations on spoilers - if it's ten years old, it's your fault if you haven't seen it. Sometimes we do need to bring up things like plot twists to compare and contrast. I think we have about a fifty-fifty success rate of saying "by the way, spoilers for The Usual Suspects here..."

One notable exception to this is I screwed up and totally spoiled the fun cameo in Zombieland on...I think Dawn of the Dead 2004. I immediately felt bad about that. [face_worried]

I generally watch the movie with the commentary, yeah. I tried early on just listening to them sans movie, but when you referenced scene-specific stuff I'd get a little lost on a movie I didn't know so well, so I decided start listening while I watched. It hasn't been a problem for a while now, you guys generally say what's going on when you reference something scene-specific, but by now I've gotten used to the commentary with the movie and I just prefer it that way.

Anyway, neither of my complaints are going to keep me from listening, just figured I'd throw it all out there.

Mainly Jake who was guilty of referencing things on screen, in a "look, look at that! I love that right there. So, anyway..." way. Which, I think the core cast has learned not to do. If they reference what's on screen, they make mention of what it is for the benefit of those who are just listening, and have been really good about that. Which I think is much better. It's one of the things that's been sort of evolutionarily learned over the course of the show, so far. Like not eating on mic, and not letting large spans of silence occur. Could just be worth remembering to mention it to the guest panelists before starting, because I agree about that, JediCow.

    Finifter's law:

As an episode of Down in Front grows longer, the probability of Brian mentioning the Meissner theory of Acting approaches 1.

Just kidding, I love this episode! This is the type of DIF I live for.

This is based on someone during the Tron recording today saying it only took him like two minutes to bring it up. I missed the actual moment, but it was pretty funny in the chat.

Yeah, I do remember that. I remember one day reading about it online and being so surprised: "People don't LIKE the ending?!?"

This is on my short-list of movies that I don't remember a time when I hadn't seen them, so I always thought this movie was great. I really like/appreciate the pre-space parts now. That pacing/mood probably filters into my own work quite a bit. The ending though... it's silly/campy, but I like the idea that to an alien culture who has only experienced us through our transmissions, they would think that we are just as extreme as the personalities on TV. It may be a little silly in the way they carried it out, but they delivered the concept well.
They sensationalize Earth culture as a whole in the same way some countries do American media. They're extraterrestrial fanboys.

This is one of those 80's movies I actually wouldn't mind seeing a remake done, except for the fact that you know they wouldn't treat it with a sense of curiosity as the original and it'd end up more like Race to Witch Mountain.

Not with today's pop culture. Ugh. [face_sick]

Though it would be funny to see the kids grown up in their 30's while the aliens are still stuck with 80's pop culture references.

What, specifically, are these magical magnetic blinking lights?

Also, I worked on a project with three Daves. The difference is, they were all actors, acting at the same time!

These, in various colors. They also come in non-blinking. Mix and match as desired.

I just ordered a bunch of them. Just as Vittorio Storaro invented giant lights that use aircraft landing bulbs called Storato lights, I will always call these Stokes lights.

I have no problem with this.

By they way, the same company sells non-blinking versions, but I couldn't find that page when I posted before. For some reason they call the non-blinkies by a completely different name, and they're available here.

I recommend using more non-blinkies than blinkies, putting more than a couple of blinking lights... *ahem* Stokes lights in a single shot tends to become distracting.

I assume the hack of a director whose lights just gave me seizures will be in on the commentary?

(Pssst, if you would finish Pink 5, I would stop referring to you as a hack. Right now, I just am annoyed by being the only one of my friends who has seen Volume 3. Oh, wait, I've been saying that for years. :p There's also a part of me that wants to change my icon.)

You guys kept alluding to your feelings on *other* Tarantino films. Which are you referring to? And what did you guys think of Inglorious Basterds?

All of 'em - and Dorkman didn't like it, I really hated it. Don't know about Brian or Trey.

    This week, TRON.
