Well avoiding the taunting of others during adolesence is one thing. Hiding behind a mask because your gorgeous face has a tiny scar is rediculous. Then again if anyone laughs at doom he can simply kill them I guess.

Oh and don't take the movies as 616 Universe Cannon. That Doctor Doom was based more on Ultimate Doctor Doom, who was involved in the experiment with the Fantastic Four and similarly was given some extraordinary abilities, further cementing his insanity and lead to Doom assuming he was on his way to becoming a God. He was left with bio-organic metal as skin and IIRC some elemental control over electricity (literally becoming his control of power).

I seem to remember that though Doom's original facial scarring was minimal, he refused to wait for his newly forged face-mask to cool before putting it on, which may have damaged his complexion further.

That's a more modern version of him I think that you are describing. But it just sounds silly.
I think wearing a mask to cover up a tiny scar because of his vanity gives more depth to his character. Although there are some comics by Stan Lee that suggested once he ruled Latveria (or whatever) he felt he could go without the mask because anyone who mocked him would be killed. He even wanted evryone else to have the same scar.

No he is correct. I had forgotten that detail. Doom's haste when his original mask was being made lead to the extensive scaring he is famous for.

    I still say it's silly.

It goes some way to describing his character, though. One bad decision after another.

Perhaps but a lot of what Lee did would be considered silly by some and later given so much more depth either by himself or someone else. Green Goblin comes to mind. Intended to be nothing more then a gag villain with a halloween theme, he was later given a more elborate back story and mystique and ended up being one of Spider-man's most deadly and most popular villains.

This made me lol. Doom was far and away the worst part of both FF movies.

Okay, while we're talking, here are a few more things that confuse me about Fantastic Four:

    1. How does Reed have a good superpower? "I can stretch my arm out real long." OK. That one's clearly a winner.[face_plain]

    2. Why would "diplomatic immunity" stop superheroes from fighting Doom? It's not like they obey any other laws. I don't exactly think it's legal for Batman to break into gangsters houses at night, and beat the crap out of them until they give him information. But, I mean, hey.

    3. If Dr. Doom already rules Latveria, what exactly is his motivation? Couldn't he achieve more by using political maneuvering to increase the power of his country, rather than dressing up in a big metal suit and going to fight Stretch Armstrong?

    4. How is it possible that they made a movie that terrible? The first one, I mean, although I would assume the second is equally lackluster.

    ***Unrelated***

    5. What the heck is Green Lantern's power? How is it supposed to work?

from what i've been hearing, the new one's actually supposed to be pretty good. especially in comparison to the last one. haven't seen it myself, but i've not heard very many bad reviews of it, unless you count the critics, which i don't give a **** what they say about anything.

as to the green lanten, it's the ring that he has that gives him his powers. here's a link that'll explain it a bit better than i could.

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that his power is great. Even comicfans make fun of it. The respect for Reed comes from his incredible intellect and inventiveness. He is genius on a scale the world has never known. IMO thats his real superpower, similar to how Spidey's real strength is his devotion and sense of responsibility or Superman's is Humanity.

While they certain have no regard for many laws (an issue that precipitated the Civil war) there are some even they can't cross. Ultimate Nick Fury is constantly coming accross various limitations violating civil Liberties and being unable to act upon events he knows are going to happen but shouldn't know without breaking laws. And there are certain heroes that have tried to stop Doom but he holds a certain amount of power and persuasion that they can't touch. When he goes too far from time to time, they are, however allowed to reign him back. I agree its a shaky excuse at best, but certainly has dramatic potential if handled well.

He does often but there are limitations to what he can do. He seaks any means of power he can possibly acheive including imortality and various cosmic ablities. He beleives he is something of a God and deserves nothing less then God like status.

We are asking ourselves the same thing. Honestly I think its an issue of missing the team dynamic, mostly a factor of Jessica Alba. Her star status gave her a little more limelight which shifted the role of Sue in the team to something of a coleader. Sue should be the quiet memember but the glue that holds them together. They are considered a family, Sue is the mother, Reed is the father and mentor for the team, with Johnny and Ben being the kids. They nailed Johnny and Ben, reduced Reed's role and increased Sue's. So the whole balance and magic was thrown off. Not to mention the issues with the loss of the team as Superheroes (until the last ten minutes) and a weak climax. Sadly the FF is not an easy egg to crack.

I'll let the DC fans cover this one. All I know is that its some cosmic force powered by the beings from Oa and channeled through various power rings.

Well, Reed Richards must be invulnerable to most blunt force trauma or stabbing injuries due to his resilient elastic nature. I think therefore he could take Batman in a fight. o_O

Being a head of state,Dr. Doom can sign treaties and alliances that suits his needs. In the seventies, there was a comic where he signed a deal with the U.S. that no superhuman could attack him on Latverian soil, and just as the Fantastic Four were going to go into Doom's castle fortress to do such,Henry Kissinger comes out to tell them this.

I always thought Dr. Doom had a problem in the name department. How about Professor Pain?

I like the FF4 movies, they're fun. But then I'm not the biggest fan of the comics.
