    In ANH,Han says to Luke "Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops,boy!". I know it was a reference to Luke being a farm boy,but it still sounds strange in a SW movie. I mean,did they really have cropdusters in the SW universe?

    The sand farmers on Tatooine used to regularly dust their crops...

    ...with dust.

    It reminds me of that age-old question:

    What do you add to powdered water? [face_thinking]

    For it to be mentioned in dialogue, implies its existance. Han's been across the galaxy and seen a lot of strange stuff, so I've no doubt he stumbled across some agro colony that dusted crops.

    What's the alternative? To have dialogue that's not related to the film?

    Han;

    "Travelling through Hyperspace ain't like counting sheep in your sleep boy-"

    Luke;

    "What's that flashing!?"

    Han;

    "My Chocolate chip cookiees are done! Go strap yourselves in, I'm going to make the just to lightspeed!-"

    :p

    Just what exactly is dusting the crops? That another name for flying an aircraft over a crop and spraying it with some kind of pesticide?

    Also, do keep in mind that the crops that Skywalker specialized in was water, so not only was Solo being sarcastic, but also ironic. As they didn't have any crops to dust, unless you wanted mud. :p

    hearing nerfs has nothing to do with flight,
    dusting cropes is done with a plane, or a skyhoper
    or whatever..

    Anyway, in the SW ANH novel it is mentioned that like:
    -the farm will soon be filled with green plants,
    but doesn't care about that..

    they do breed something green on that planet it seems,
    and someone has to dust it.

    Unless there's a deeper meaning. You know the 70's was all about drugs, rock n'roll and Paul Simon. Maybe "dusting crops" has something to do with weed.

    In drug lingo,"dusted crops" means marijuana that contains angel dust(PCP).

    crop-dust·ing [ krpdstng ]
    n.

    The process of spraying crops with powdered insecticides or fungicides from an airplane.

    Just so we're all clear on that.

    Why would it be so strange? Han Solo has traveled the galaxy and "seen alot of strange things." There has to be at least one civilization out there that provides agriculture and uses methods similar to our own. And Luke's a farm boy, so it would make sense to say that to him. Hell, given that his family was likely self-sufficient, they might have performed a similar precaution with what they grew. Just without an airplane.

    Maybe that's what the Lars' Family Skyhopper was for. Owen seemed like a practical fellow to me, and he wouldn't get something that big (and presummably) expensive without having farming needs for it. You think he got it to give Luke some freedom. C'mon, Owen knows who Luke's father is, and the less Luke finds out about the "read world," the better. And better for him, I bet that the Emperor is constitently looking for children of Skywalker (he'll undoubtably know that Padme is preggos is EIII). Remember, any of Ani's kids will be a threat to him, so Luke was carefully hidden from the Empire. Owen, Beru, and Obi-Wan saw to this.

    Another definition of crop dusting is when you walk past a group of people and quietly fart. I learned this from a guy who worked at a fancy celebrity-owned restaurant. It was used as punishment by the staff on any rude customers.

    Luke's farm didn't have any crops to dust, per se, but I guess Han didn't know that.
