    Agreed.

    What I like about the cover is that nothing is really in the center, aside from the title of course. The attention is drawn to the torch, because of the yellows and purples around it. I like the contrast with the blues and whites, it really makes the cover look cold: reflecting one of the most spectacular parts of the movie, the big city freeze.

    The cover also looks pretty epic and teasing, I my opinion. The first time I learned about this movie, it was in an ad in a movie magazine, with a similar image. It had the tagline "Where will you be?" which really made me curious about this movie.

    A good one, even if it is a rip-off of the last scene of "Planet of the Apes."

    Just in the snow ;) It's also good to see no characters on the cover, since it really focuses more on locale and effects than characters in the movie. I could just imagine Day After Tomorrow having a floating heads cover [shudders]

    I haven't seen the film and am not particularly interested in seeing it, but this cover is very striking. I remember being impressed when it came out. I particularly like the coloring.

    25. King Kong (1933)

    [image=http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00003CXAW.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg]

    This King Kong cover has that nostalgic serial feel from the 30's. The text is appropriate as is the hand drawn cover. The textures are superb. The dark blue and the red and the yellow and light blue all work together to complement the brown Kong. Also good to see Kong offcentered to make it more realistic. I like how they tucked the cast right near the title in a complementing white color font. Nicely done.

    It's brilliant. All the "King Kong" graphic advestising work was.

    I almost didn't see them sneak the NY city skyline in the bottom right hand corner. With that yellow, you can barely see from far away. Regardless it's still here and makes its presence known.

    I love this cover. I have the collector's edition tin and that packaging makes the art even more impressive.

    BTW, WB recently released a 1-disc version of the film to coincide with the DVD of PJ's version. The cover is absolutely atrocious:

    What's wrong with that? It's not that bad.

    I think it looks cheap and rushed, especially when you compare it to the 2-disc artwork. It kind of reminds me of those $1 DVDs you find at Wal-Mart.

    If you look closely at it, it doesn't have the authentic 30's Art Deco style of the original. Cheapjack.

    That Kong logo is quite similar to the O5 one. ;)

    I don't even think the airplanes could've killed the Kong on the single disc release. He coulda stepped on the Empire State Building.

    26. The Rocketeer (1991)

    [image=http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6305428514.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_V54611455_.jpg]

    The Rocketeer most certainly has that serial 30's look to it. It's hand drawn which is a plus. But there are faults. First of all the Title Logo is poorly formatted. It looks like it's going to fall off the cover. Second of all, the charcters are bunched together in the middle. Spread them out just a few centimeters and it'd look a lot better. I like the starburst blue background and the little action in the left hand corner. To be artistic about it, I wouldn't mind seeing just the Rocketeer's cool mask. You can barely notice it in the upper right hand corner. I'm pretty mixed on this one. There's good and bad here.

    Your complaints about the format are definitely valid, and I think I would have moved the Rocketeer to the left to balance the upper right hand corner.

    The movie poster for this film was fantastic. Too bad they didn't use it for the DVD cover. This looks like your standard B movie cover.

    This is one of my favorite posters ever.

    A shame it wasn't used for the DVD.

    Never seen that one before, but you're right, it's great. Maybe they thought it too stylized for the audience they wanted to attract. :p

    I heard that the reason this film didn't do very well, was because people saw that poster and thought the movie was a cartoon.

    27. Zathura (2005)

    [image=http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000DBHX4M.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg]

    It's a bad movie with clutter artwork. I like the black and the blue background as well as the title logo. Everything seems to be clustered in the top corner. It's quite distracting since the bottom right's got nothing. Looks like it was photoshopped in a poor way. And the leading between that big robot and the logo is ridiculously minimal. It's basically bumping its head on the title.

    I bought that edition. It's awful... the 2-disc cover is straight out of the thirties though.

    I agree that "Zathura" is poor. The flying house is a great image, why not concentrate on it, instead?
