I think it’s pretty difficult to comment without knowing the actual revenue streams of the company. Clearly it’s not doing as well as they’d have hoped in 2012 but that’s another thing to it being dead weight. For example, how much revenue does merchandise still bring in? The company basically lived on that from 05-15. Not to mention ILM (I believe) is still folded in there, as well as Skywalker Sound.

Regarding the reported budget, Disney has already stated they want to reduce production budgets broadly in order to increase profit in light of softening box office returns - I imagine that’s part of the reason why the Mando and Grogu film has a smaller budget (apart from the fact it’s probably smaller scale by nature, and already has assets from the television productions). I can’t imagine that film making $500 million would be seen as a failure on the part of Disney, especially if it’s partly being used to generate enthusiasm for the broader return of the franchise to the big screen.

Perhaps 150-200 million budgets, with 600-800 million box office is their eventual hope for a stable ‘production line’ (as much as I hate films being such things), with the hope that one or two break out into the billion dollar club. I think that’s probably doable, if they actually make good films, and space them two years apart. I can imagine a first Jedi film being a lay-up for them, as well as a film with Luke and Leia vs Thrawn. The Rey film is probably more reliant on it actually being good.

Going big from the start without having a coherent even short-term plan was a mistake. Making movies that narrowed and rehashed the franchise and leaned on empty nostalgia rather than trying to do anything fresh was a mistake. Launching Disney+ instead of selling original programming to Netflix or something was a mistake. Buying Star Wars for so much money in the first place may have been a mistake. But I don't know if any of that was actually avoidable because these companies don't work any other way.

I'll watch Skeleton Crew soon. Gotta finish season 2 of Shrinking, then start and finish season 5 of Mad Men, and then I'll tackle this one probably after that

The change in plans for Andor to only have two seasons in total was made early on, before season 1 even came out, and was more to do with storytelling and logistical reasons.

"At Star Wars Celebration a month later, Lucasfilm confirmed a 12-episode second season. Gilroy explained that the original five-season plan was deemed to be "physically impossible" due to the series' scale, and instead they realized that they could end the series with one more season that led directly into the events of Rogue One."

"The first season, which tells a year of Andor's story when he first becomes a revolutionary, was filmed from November 2020 to September 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second season covers the next four years leading up to Rogue One."

Jod Na Nawood ( or Crimson Jack or Dash Zentin or Captain Silvo or whatever) unexpected great SW villain. Just hope he doesn't turn into Snoke.

I've been enjoying this show, even if this show is for kids. Today's episode was really good (if short, again). I was almost really angry at the unclaimsies moment, but droids that aren't wiped do develop personalities and I don't think 33 has ever liked Jod. So we got our Barbossa "they're more like guidelines" moment.

After threatening their murder their parents, I don't think Jod is going to be redeemed. But I do predict that he'll get away in the end and probably with a few old republic credits.
I don't think this show is going to connect to the sequels on a large scale. If they do make any connections, it'll be small.

I agree with Vivec and Inty. It's a lot of fun. No brooding.

I don't know if Jod actually threatened to murder the parents though. Or that he will turn out to be super evil. I think he's a morally gray character, switching allegiances as he sees fit, like Jack Sparrow but with a lightsaber.

Then came the final episode. Luke, Grogu and Mando doing stuff. In the last 5 minutes Grogu kills Jod in a force battle while Luke is shouting: Do it!.

Do you plan to subscribe for one month to binge? Don't make Bob Iger cry. Kathleen Kennedy might need to cancel three more movies to make herself feel better.

I haven't made any big decisions yet, but I definitely wouldn't mind making Bob Iger weep if that were actually possible.
