So it has been on DVD.

I doubt we'll ever get a Blu Ray level copy officially, Lucasfilm would probably never have acknowledged a copy still existed if the BFI didn't have their own.
I'm guessing Disney charged them a big fee to let them do it.

Oh I don't know about never seeing in Bluray or better.

    Never underestimate greed.

    -------------

If the BFI are showing a 48 year old celluloid print!? Heaven help them get through the runtime without an issue.

I would hope they've done a transfer to some new celluloid...but then they are duplicating, which would require permissions.

I suspect LFL is just fine with it...they aren't going to make any profit on the showcase.

The OT on DVD is letterboxed for some reason, so that it's the size of a postage stamp on a regular size screen.

It used to be that if Lucasfilm got wind of a non SE version of the OT it would have them confiscated. So this is good news. Perhaps the first step in getting the original versions available.

Does the original version also have the wolf-man in Mos' Cantina?

    I wonder if it's a 70mm print.

I read elsewhere this is a 35mm print. But there were other screening of the original version in the last few years which were 70mm.

It's because it's the Laserdisc version, which was formatted for the 4:3 aspect ratio that all TVs had at the time (mid 1990s).

LFL would have done it long ago if they felt there was sufficient demand, especially after Lucas left & couldn't block any attempts.

The fact you can't even get it on D+ says enough, what we have now is Lucas' definitive vision and that's what the studio believes in the only version.

Lucas always wanted Greedo to say that, he just didn't have the technology for it in the 70's.

It really comes down to a personal commitment by LFL to Lucas. It’s something Lucas feels strongly about, so they’re respecting that.

I have no doubt there’s demand for a restoration, and that it would be economically viable. Restorations are made of far, far less popular films all the time. They may not be able to restore from the original negative (I believe that was altered by Lucas with the Special Editions), but they could restore from a number of sources.

    - takes place after the battle of Exegol (Episode 9)
    - is in pre-production and starts shooting this fall

Always down for more animated stuff.

Is Starfighter just a reworked Rogue Squadron movie?

Trailer for Mandalorian & Grogu looks great, seemingly confirms

Rotta the Hutt (or some Hutt at least). Also a new Razor Crest

Will this movie start with him breaking into song & dance while stuck in air traffic on Coruscant?

    Just one thing everybody wants
    There in the Cantina bars
And through the smokescreen of the crowded restaurants
    It's a Starfighter
Yes, all we're looking for is a Starfighter from someone else

Finally, some kind of follow-up to Solo and hopefully more Qira. And something else after TROS. These have me more excited (less nervous?) than the other ones they’ve talked about. And nice for it to be stuff actually being worked on already it seems

Yeah, "Maul Shadow Lord" sounds promising as it'll have him become the leader of the underworld factions so you can then introduce Qira, Ahsoka, and others to tie it all together and maybe eventually give us some stories of what happens after Solo.

Appreciate that they’re telling us the film’s going to be bad in advance.
