I enjoyed it. I didn't mind the lost boys. But the wild Yavin boar attack wasn't great.

In fact, every time I saw a rare alien I thought: why even bother.

Yeah there is a weird lack of alien races in this show. You'd think with the budget they could at least afford a few Twi-Leks

Well it's not like you can imagine Admiral Ackbar in any of these roles.

Are you one of those twilek fanciers, rich?

Truth be told, the line is always the empire is human centric, but the rebellion wasn’t exactly teeming with alien races. Maybe to aliens the galactic war is some human ******** problem.

also, Gilroy isn’t a SW, is he? Maybe he doesn’t have much for aliens.

I think they just need to establish some 3-10 alien species who are nearly as widespread and populous as humans, and then commit to them. I get costuming/makeup and CGI can be expensive, but if they just committed to a few (while still having all the new cantina aliens, when they want) then it would maybe mean more recycling of suits/makeup and CGI models? Then these scenes could always have at least a few background Twileks or Mon Calamari or Cereans or Dugs or whatever. That or they just need to straight out address it, especially with how many nonhumans used to be in the Senate (and Jedi Council). Especially for the rebellion.

I really don't think Andor is light on aliens because of budget. It's pretty clear that Gilroy and his team don't feel comfortable putting alien characters at the forefront for whatever reason-- e.g., it's harder to take someone in silly prosthetics seriously. The only droid they have is a comic relief puppy and may have been written out (I'd be fine with B2 spending his days playing with kids on a farm). Or they just want to go the same way as the OT/PT in which most of the roles went to humans.

Going by the previews, though, there will be more aliens in the series. Probably at most just short scenes like the guys Cassian met after breaking out of the prison in season 1.

Meanwhile it feels strange to get some SW content that is actually good.I watched The Last of Us S2E2 before Andor und must say it's the first time since a while that I have no complaints about the quality of the new SW content compared to other series. The only thing that I miss is some SW ST tone as S2 seems to stick to the Andor S1 tone.
Can't wait to see the viewer statistics.

Saw Guerrera observed correctly that most of Rebellion is a bunch of human supremacists. He was the only true leader around, and instead we got the worst factions possible taking charge. No wonder the Galaxy ran straight into the ground within a few years.

He could appear on Coruscant, but if he's having a big role in Ahsoka S2 then maybe that's all the Mon Calamari budget.

Also, he wouldn't have been an Admiral at this point, Raddus was the Admiral by the time of Rogue One & Ackbar succeeded him.

So two thoughts that I have had stuck in my mind since I saw the first three episodes yesterday.

The scene with Krennic and his planning of Ghorman - such a beautiful, haunting and really scary nod to the film "Conspiracy" (about the Wannsee conference where the nazis plotted the final solution in just such a casual and bureaucratic way)

Deedra is Javert from Les Miserables. It will be very interesting to see how her character arc ends.

So I think audiences will watch the show and then hit that scene in Episode 3 and then turn it off. It's like watching 400 million dollars being set on fire. which is a shame because there's fun and funny stuff in here (arguably more funny than s1, dinner scene with Karn's mom is funny and interesting characters work) and then that happens. Sometimes this show is too tryhard to be grimdark edgy mature. That's one of it. So how much **** does Bix have to take? because it's a lot

Yes. It’s a live action version of the TIE Avenger from the “X-Wing/TIE Fighter” series of games from the mid-late 90’s.

War is hell, but they're piling a lot of trauma on Bix. Sorry no therapy for you until that second death star comes down. If you live that long lol.

    Great as usual.

I don’t have much to add, besides:

    1. I did think it was a bit ‘quippy,’ especially in the first episode. Having watched all three, I think this was probably because it was going dark real quick, and they needed to lighten the mood a bit. I imagine it’s only going to get darker as we go on.

    2. this series doesn’t get enough praise for its production design. I feel like the planets of a lot of the films and shows in the Disney era tend to lean too much into derivatives of Tatooine to Coruscant. That was never the case in the Lucas era - each world had a distinct design language, mostly to easily inform the audience of where they were with a glance. This show carries that forward - each of the worlds in this arc, from Chandrilla, to Wheat World, to Yavin, to Flight Test World, to Coruscant, to Eagles Nest World, were unique in their own way. Each world felt like it’s developed an aesthetic from within rather than from without. Each feels like there is a history, utility and purpose behind the design choices.

Gilroy also got some inspiration from Stalin.

How the gangster years of young Joseph Stalin inspired Andor

Everyone has their own things they like to see in a SW show.

For me, it turns out it's a terrified character screaming THIS SHIP HAS NO MANUAL!!

^ That's the stuff I want to see.

Me, it's using the default setting for the original Star Wars RPG as the major flashpoint for Andor S2

Having watched back Season 1 (partly) there are actually a lot more aliens than I remember, and probably no less than ANH and TESB (if you ignore Chewie). The galaxy has always been dominated by humans. That’s been clear from the original films.

But, as you mentioned, the lack of lead aliens serves a purpose - this is a very serious show at its heart. It could easily be both as a distraction and a detraction from that tone to have an alien have a role more than background.

in ANH, how many aliens were with the Rebels on Yavin?

I even remember some lore stuff back in the legends days about how the alien species really didn't start giving the rebellion any credit until after Yavin, thinking it more a human v human battle for control of all the money and power.

    Certainly there were a few.

But it appears Gilroy is taking the visuals we got from ANH strongly to heart.

And I think there is also merit to what others have said...dropping random new alien into a scene is one thing. Filling the scene with them gets distracting. Which is why the Cantina in ANH is the memorable scene it was, and then we see next to none most of the rest of the film beside our buddy Chewie.

This show is pushing drama in way most Star Wars does not. Drama is easier to translate through the familiar. Probably a solid reason to bring Krennic back. His known character traits alone heighten the drama about to unfold.

I like the way Mothma's husband was written.

They could have gone over the top in making him as evil or as gross as possible, whereas at the end he's just a punchable ******* like many others, and in fact I'd say he's less punchable than he used to be in season 1.

    SPOILER
Though, we'll see, now that the other guy will be found dead and he just saw Mothma in a precarious emotional state after talking with him, most likely he will start doing 2+2 and realize that there is something fishy below the surface.

Speaking of Tay Kolma's fate; Vel seeing Cinta for the first time in a while, after Vel told Mon that she hadn't heard from Cinta recently and clearly wanted to. And for that to be how she sees Cinta now, where she quickly realizes why Cinta is there and what it means for Kolma... wow. And on that note, when Luthen tells Mon right before that what needs to be done and Mon claims to not know what he means. His response is just great: "How nice for you."

I never knew how much I'd enjoy seeing Dedra set Syril's mom straight.

It's funny how comfortable Dedra was at the meeting planning potential mass murder vs. getting ready to meet Syril's mom. To be fair, once she had sized the mom up she assumed her usual confidence.

I hope that's not the end of their story. I want to see his mom coming back swinging hard. Let the battle begin.
