True. The department is sort of (but not necessarily officially) a subdepartment of the ISB though, and he is a director.

So he's arguably an ISB director, but not the ISB Director.

Ok...why would Imperial Intelligence or the ISB be in charge of military weapons development?

I can understand the need to coordinate with these departments, particularly in the case of something like the DS.

But the entire project...ALL weapons projects which the Empire was developing... in the hands of departments who primary job were to either keep secrets or uncover them...at best is bureaucratic overreach...and at worst, the abandonment of structure in the face of power hungry sycophants of the Emperor scooping up projects and departments and hording them as a power base.

    ...

    ... ... ...

    Nevermind...

    I convinced myself.

The Empire is stupid, and this plays to that narrative perfectly.

And probably even more poetic when Tarkin sweeps in and takes Krennic's biggest chess piece away in Rogue One.

Military Intelligence surely overlaps between both the military & the Intelligence departments.

Area 51 wouldn't just be military, if it's in charge of secret testing and other technological innovations it is also full of scientists

It’s made clear in Rogue One that Krennic is that “over ambitious middle manager” type.

I guess the problem is I've never been interested in Assaj Ventress, she's been in tons of this stuff now for over 20 years, I never remember any of it.

So, in this May the 4th day, the White House ( official account) tweeted a full photo displaying Darth AntyChristus.
Certainly not in my bingo card for this year's SW day [face_laugh]

I'm betting Intell is the department most closely vetted for political reliability, so they get all the most dangerous toys.

I forgot where, but someone made the case that we cannot know for sure that the traitor in Saw's base was really a traitor rather than being just Saw's paranoia.
Though, the show seems to suggest he was an actual traitor. He asked inappropriate questions to the young engineer, and then later he asked Saw where he was planning to strike. It is implied that Saw gave him a random location, and then somehow got to know that the Empire learned about it.

The other issue about which I had a slight perplexity was why Luthen and Kleya took the risk of putting the microphones there in the first place, but this was also addressed in the dialogues:

It didn't seem to bother you when we caught Yularen lying.
    Oh seriously?
The Holo-news buyout! Sculdun courting the Grand Vizier.

Of course politics is often discussed at those various fancy parties, so it's fairly plausible that they could have use in being able to listen to the conversations there. That said, of course, it's possible that the risk was not worthy, and thus Luthen himself ends up considering it a mistake.

I finally got to watch the next three episodes of Andor Season 2.

I have nothing meaningful to add to the conversation. Hot damn this show is good.

    However, I will say ...

Seeing as this is a prequel series to a move that is itself a prequel to the opening crawl of a movie ...

Perhaps we can get another prequel series delving into Luthen's background. I would watch the **** out of that.

I like how Yavin is explicitly the Rebels not ****ing around anymore. Follow the rules or there will be a problem.

But I do wonder what happened to the Yavin survivors from the first arc, where anyone alive when the rest of rebels showed up?

Cassian likely reported his experience to Luthen. If there were any survivors when more Rebels showed up to build the base, I can't imagine that their behavior wouldn't have been punished.

I'm confused if Dedra really cared, the way she was speaking to Partagaz made it seem like she was using Syril to achieve what was needed and not because she actually liked him.

Dedra's not all there emotionally because of her upbringing. She was both manipulating Syril and genuinely cared about him; she was just rationalizing her actions by telling herself they'd both be rewarded and end up better off. I am not sure if that was the only cause of her breakdown, though. She might not have internalized the full weight of what she was going to do to the people of Ghorman. Dedra puts on a tough demeanor, but she's a wreck whenever there's danger or things don't go to plan. She was completely frozen with terror when Syril violently confronted her just like she was terrified on Ferrix.

Dedra cared, she genuinely looked concerned and I'm suspecting we'll see a turn over the last three episodes.

I don't know if that will be the case just because she may feel doubt or remorse. It takes courage for someone to do something about such feelings and stand up to an unjust system, and I think Dedra has demonstrated the opposite of courage when things get tough. Though I guess since her late lover died unreformed because he put a personal vendetta above doing the right thing, her path may contrast with his.

Dedra does not care about the Empire's project (or the Rebels) from a political perspective. She just has a job, and she is professional and a careerist.
She felt uncomfortable about the Ghorman plan since day one, and would have rather focused on her detective work, but once the plan is given to her, then she switches the professionalism on and carries it on in the most clinical way.

Syril's job was to root out agitators, traitors to the Empire. What did he think was going to happen to these people?
