I'm middle of the road. Musically, he's got some good stuff. The stalker song (which I strangly enough cannot think of the title too) is a good example. He's got good rhythym and his lyrics have a nice humour to them.

That said, I think he overdoes it. I don't care for his persona all that much. Personify our generation? I disagree. Personally, for all the anger I'll admit I have toward society, I never came close to touching the well of rage that he seems to have at his disposal. I've never been as angry as he seems to be all the time.

Right, Linkin Park is going to kick his ass. Look out! they're one step close to the edge! The Might just BREAK!

Eminem has some talent , unlike LP.

He's a decent freestyler. His lyrics are funny in a way. But if you believe what he says then you have a problem.

I'm no rap fan, but Eminem seems to be a pretty smart guy. First he creates a character as a way of driving home the fact that just about everything he talks about is completely fictional, then he writes songs that make fun of anyone who is offended for not realising that it's all a big joke, as well as writing songs that condemn any of his fans who'd be dumb enough to actually copy the stuff he jokes about. He's a bit like a musical version of the South Park movie.

Admittedly, based on his new album he's pretty much going round in circles at this point, though.

Funny you should mention South Park, he has a DVD, (also) called the Eminem Show that is referred to as a slightly worse verion of South Park.

Eminem is a master of rhymes and rhythms.....as a drummer, i love listening to the different ways he can accent words to create new rhythms to an otherwise boring track.........i don't really like the content of his stuff, but i do enjoy listening to him.

No talent? That is crazy. Slim Shady has an incredible sense of rythm. Sure his lyrics are a little over the top, does he really expect us to identify with matricide? At least he says what he feels. and he certainly won't sugar coat anyting, which make him more comendable than 90% of politicians. But if you ever hear him improv, you'll change your minds about his talent. There is a reason that he is making money, and that after such harsh lyrics he is still gaining fans with every album release.

i think he's got a lot of poetic talent, and i think it was Liz Skywalker who mentioned that he's the voice of this generation. Not to mention "without me" is just really funny.

Funny guy, very disrespectful, I hate him though, still I made a parody of "Without Me"

    Intro]
Two Sharu Brothers go round the outside
round the outside, round the outside
    scratches
    · Two Sharu Brothers go round the outside
round the outside, round the outside
    *scratches*

    Guess who's back
    Back again
    Chiss is back
    Tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back
guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back..
    ·
    [Verse 1: Eminem]
I've created a monster, cause nobody wants to see Adam no more
They want Chissy, I'm chopped liver (huh?)
Well if you want Chissy, this is what I'll give ya
A little love and some more Vong critters
    · A little bit of ale went the wrong way
than a shock when they put me in my place
by the Vong dude was not co-operating
When he killed his sister while he calculating (hey!!)
You waited this long, now stop debating
Cause I'm back, ready to attack as your ratings fading
I know that you got a job Mr. Genghis
but Zahn is after you in Las Vegas
    · So the M.O.D.?S won't let me be
or let me be me, so let me see
They try to shut me down on LIT TV
But it feels so empty, without me
So, come on and trip, fall to the grits
    · I have you know as Im ready to piss
And get ready, cause this craps about to get heavy
Jabba the Hutt is to damn heavy!
    ·
    · Chorus: Eminem]
Now this looks like a job for me
    So everybody, just follow me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause it feels so empty, without me
I said this looks like a job for me
    So everybody, just follow me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause it feels so empty, without me

    [Verse 2: Eminem]
Little newbies get ready to screw these
    · They don?t know what they will do with these
They start feeling like Jaina is Elvis
    · Till I come along and find you hellish

    A visionary, visions not scary
Could start a revolution, pollutin the JC
A rebel, so just let me revel and bask
    in the fact that I got everyone kissin my --- {*smak*}
    And it's a disaster, such a castastrophe
That they said Im back with a attept to free
    Well I'm back, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
{*bzzt*} Find your own face and stick up your waist
from the corner to the back you cant escape me
The center of attention, back for the splinter
Im Chissing all day, but in a different way
That?s right, oh my God Ive gone Genghis today
    {*bzzt*} Testing, attention please
Feel the tension, soon as someone mentions me
Here's my ten cents, my two cents is free
A chissdude? Who sent, you sent for me?
    [Chorus]

    Verse 3: Eminem]
    A-trick and that?s it, I kicked you?re a#$ with
My own self-knowledge and Chiss tactics
Palpy, you can get your ass kicked
worse than them little Dark Jedi Crapheads
And Obi? You can get stomped by Moby
You seventy-six year old baldheaded fag, blow me
You don't know me, you're too old, let go
It's over, and nobody likes you as master
Now let's go, just gimme the signal
I'll be there with a whole list full of new insults
I just found out Im out of the window
    ever since Padme turned himself into a symbol {*knife slices*}
    But sometimes it just seems
everybody only wants to discuss me
So this must mean I'm all for free
But it's just me, I'm just obscene
No I'm not the first king of controversy
I am the worst thing since Bib the Twe?lek
to shout and holler not kindly
and used to pump my stature highly
(Hey!!) There's a concept that works
Twenty million followers of chiss and quirks
But no matter how many fish in the sea
It'll be so empty, without me

Oh boy. WHen this man first came out...I hated him. Because of his offensice lyrics...and his arrogance, I lumped him into a catagory of losers.

    I detest his music.

    BUT.......

A couple of weeks ago, I watched an interview with him. I was shocked to learn that I was starting to like the guy. He had a terrible life....this man has suffered heart break after heart break...and instead of going out and killing people randomly..(like so many other people who have lived similar lives) he channels his anger into music. To me....that simple fact deserves respect.

Almost rappers have suffered heart break and have had terrible lives. If Eminem weren't white, no one would care, they'd call him a pyscho and cast him aside. In fact, there are tons of black rappers who have had horrible lives and live to say positive things about it, Eminem is not able to do that.

Eminem has good beats b/c of Dre, but unfortuantely he ruins them. With his whiny voice, mediocre rhymes, repetitive, self-absorbed lyrics, he's a sub-par rapper.

Let's do the math - if I was black, I woulda sold half

    TRUE.

I don't particularly like Eminem himself, but I won't hesitate to acknowledge that he is talented. Particularly as a lyricist; I don't like what he sings about, but he sure knows how to sing about it. He's creative, he's got a good sense of rhythm, and in my opinion he's definitely a notch above most of the other rap artists out there today. I have to admit that I like "Without Me" from his latest album, as well as "Stan" from his old one.

However, you'd think that after all the albums he's recorded and sold, and all the success he's had, he could stand to be a little less... well, I guess the word is controversial, isn't it? ;) I don't really like the influence he has on kids and the fact that he's a role model for a lot of them. I respect his right to sing about what he chooses, but I think he could be a little more responsible, considering who his primary audience is.

I'm taking take the long range, spiritual view. Any human being that picks that many fights, spews that much anger, hurts and upsets so many people and is so full of hate and antagonism, is building a karmic debt of staggering proportions. It may be many years before he reaps the consequences of his actions...but it WILL happen.

You reap what you sow. For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction.

He's not exactly preaching love and harmony.

While so many rappers talk about money and what money gets them, Eminem tells a story with his raps. Though his words may go overboard, there is a message behind what he says.

    Especially with Moby, Moby sucks.

Somehow I've never found homophobic, woman-hating, violent "music" entertaining or clever. In all his interviews Eminem tells us what a poor misuderstood guy he is. He just makes music. All that stuff about killing his wife, killing gays, and stuffing cats heads in mailboxes? Why that's just a joke!
    Well, Har Har Har.
The man is useless and any talent he might have, he wastes seeing how far he can push.

I think the guy is an absolute genius. Not for his catchy songs, his brilliant way of rhyming "Marilyn" and "heroin", or even because of his looks.
The guy has managed to stir up more attention, more controversy, and more record sales than I bet anyone ever intended to give him. Even the people who hate him obviously spend great amounts of time thinking about him. Even the title of this thread is saying something: you either love him or you hate him. Because you really can't ignore him. Even my great grandma knows who the guy is because there was some lady on the local news protesting his filthy lyrics.
Personally, though, I think some of his songs are amusing ("Without Me" topping that list) and others are really annoying (such as "My Name is...") but I really don't like that some of his songs so obviously preach hatred.
Yeah he knows he's not serious. I know he's not serious. And plenty of adults know that he's not serious. But there's kids out there who I'm sure don't know that. And there are even some who probably didn't get the meaning of my favorite song of his, "Stan". And that's not good. I live in a neighborhood where "Jewish" is considered a synonym for stupid. If there's people out there that still think on that level, I don't think the general public is ready for Eminem.

Eminem, has about as much talent as John Williams has in his fingernail.

There are literally NO talented rappers. Anyone can write lyrics that are meant to be only spoken, on the backdrop of ALREADY existing background music (usually from old albums). And all the rapper has to do is write some lines about something dirty and controversial and just make sure the last word of every two lines ryme, where some baggy clothes, and walla you've got a rapper.

I would venture to say that the guy who works the turntable has more talent than the rapper himself.

I have read several reviews of his music recently (I believe one was newsweek) and it called his music brilliant.

If you wanna hear brilliant music, go pop in a John Williams soundtrack (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, etc).

Eminem has NO talent. And the last thing he is, is brilliant.

You also have to be able to speak those words in such a rhythm that is pleasing to the ear......and that is NOT easy to do.........Eminems rhythms are fresh and new, he uses words in different ways than they are normally spoken.........there is a lot more to rap than you think, i suggest you try to do it sometime.......I will agree that "brilliant" is a word being thrown around way too loosely these days, and i don't consider Marshall "brilliant" he does have loads of talent.......he and dre have an exceptional ability to fuse together samples to create an awesome background beat.......but i'm done ranting and raving

Eminem may be talentless, but its ignorant to say all rappers are talentless, when almost the opposite is true. In terms of music, Timbaland and Dre are excellent producers, their beats, particularly Timbaland, never grow repetitive and are always fresh. In terms of lyrics, Tupac, PRT, KRS-One are able to educate people in their rhymes. In terms of the cleverness in the lyrics, look no further than Ludacris, while his lyrics may have little to no value to society, no one writes funnier/fresher lines like Luda.

You are terrible ignorant on rap, I mean, unbelievable, please try and educate yourself on something before making dumb comments, I'll just list some rap groups that do not go along with your point:

Write their own music: The Roots, Justice System. there ya go, that's 2. Listen to them and say that rap is talentless.

    2. Anyone can write lyrics that are ment to be spoken? Rap isn't speaking, you have such an unbelievable disrespect for rap. Have you ever tried it? You'd trip over your words, even with simple rappers.

    3. Ever tried freestyling? Keeping a flow of words for minutes just on teh top of your head without sounding silly as hell? Yeesh. Don't diss something you don't know anything about.

And all the rapper has to do is write some lines about something dirty and controversial and just make sure the last word of every two lines ryme, where some baggy clothes, and walla you've got a rapper.

You've got a talentless mainstream/gangsta/pop rapper. That's all, please do me a favor, look up some Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, Disposable Heroes of Hiphorisy lyrics before saying something that stupid again about their lyrics. Ever heard about Jazz-Rap, alternative Rap, Political-Rap??

Rhyme? You've never ever heard any DHOH.

You know as much about rap as a 10 year old kid that only listens to MTV. Do you think MTV shows any genre aside from Bubblegum pop (which is an MTV genre and couldn't survive without it.) correctly? That's like saying Limp Bizkit is the embodiment of rock. Or saying that Blink 182 = Punk. Blah, Ignorant.

To further proove my point: They are showing an interview with the rapper/guitarist of Orishas on the television here right now.

I hate him. I am sure he wants me to hate him too. However, I think he is just too stupid. He is not new or anything else. He just spouts off crap that goes against basic moral values. I cannot understand how any woman could like him or his music. The violence against them he portrays is quite obsene.

I hate rap "music." At my work I have been forced to listen to it, and I could not like it if I had a gun to my head. As much as I hate Spears and Backstreet Boys, I would rather listen to that because it is something I can identify as music. I do not deny that "rapping" takes practice, and the abilty to talk fast, but it also consists of who can say the F word the most times for no reason.
