Yeah I was quite perplexed how some crimelord is going to get his hands on the second death star and start blowing up ****. I'd figured that the SSD that you'd acquire would be just a regular SSD and not the Eclipse. . .

You know what would really make me happy?

It makes things so much easier.

While 2ndQuest turns briefly into a salivating TOTJ comic character, I actually like this new approach. A fun, free game for once, not continuity-inhibited obedience. And the daring move to show the Eclipse instead of another million X-wing variant earns my respect for the idea alone.

    =D=

The FOC acronym is sibilantly close to another, though. [face_worried]

OK, it sounds cool and all, but 000's right. The idea of a crime lord getting hold of the only Eclipse in the galaxy is just ridiculous.

So, when you play, ensure it doesn't happen. :p

Wasn't the Eclipse a unique vessel that came around like 7 years after ROTJ? Doesn't seem to fit with that timeline.

Doesn't matter to me. TIE Crawlers pwn everything.

Yeah, though there is some debate about when it was actually finished (might have been built before ROTJ, but since only the Emperor knew where it was it was never used, or something) IIRC.

I think the fact that they try and fit every game into continuity hurts them in the long run. Slap an Infinities label on it and let it be as wild as it can.

    Infinities--please God I hope so.

However, I think it's quite plausible a crime lord could take command of the Second Death Star.

...IG-88 only thought it was originally his idea to take it over. Yay subliminal programming by crime lords! :p

I am quite interested to see how the SSDs and Eclipse are handled, as well.

So to play as the crime lord you have to steal every weapon you can get? Interesting. I'd like to see a Mon Cal cruiser taking on the Rebels.

[face_dancing] Expansion!!! Hope I can do a Base delta zero. Happy this story is just the expansion because it would suck as Empire ar war 2. Guess the thought that Empire at War 2 will probebly be Republic at war cheers me up. I'd love to fight Clone War Battles even more then this overdone Galactic civil war. HATE THOSE REBELS!

Hi guys, I noticed that there are a bunch of other people who are upset about the new ridiculous storyline and think they should be putting the Infinities tag on it...

Anyways, I am am an admin at the Petroglyph Fan Forums where Petroglyph developers (they made Empire at War) come and post every day and communicate with the fans. Right now there is a feedback thread going around, but I'm the only non-fanboy in there who has the courage to tell them the real Star Wars fans are against such drastic story line changes:

    http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?topic=3627.0

I urge all true long-time Star Wars fans to come and speak out against this travesty!

I'm a true long-term Star Wars fan, but I enjoy playing Star Wars games for what they are - entertainment. I don't care to get all upset at continuity glitches and retroactive fixes.

And I'd say the vast majority of Star Wars game players think exactly the same way.

I think they already are being TOO careful about continuity. I wanna be able to conquer the galaxy with Jabba the Hutt in a Yhuzzan Vong ship

If LA took such care about maintaining continuity within the SW universe they would've taken greater care during the following games: Battlefront, Battlefront II, any game that features the battle of Hoth among others.

I think the very vast majority of people out there realize that its just a game and don't care too much about continuity and just have fun. Thats my stance.

I'm not gonna go bitching to another forum and try to get LA to change the entire tone of the game.

Guys, while I'm on the same page that I want to do crazy "what-if" scenarios (like yuuzhan vong vs trade federation in Warlords mod), I think if we have the chance we should try to stop the seeping of these ridiculous storylines into being accepted as canon. Right now, for the first time ever, Star Wars game developers are reading and openly replying on a fan forum, and we should use this possibility to make it clear that we would prefer them not to openly screw a storyline. We can be reasonable about that and tell them that they can make this work by explaining why nobody had heard of Tyber Zann before, set it in the post-ROTJ period so it's reasonable to be trying to steal the Eclipse, etc. Now given past games, they are all very reluctant to touch any EU material at all so I have my doubts about this happening.

Otherwise it might just end up with another story that makes no sense with retrospect to the EU and we'll be no better off than before. As someone had previous explained, if they don't want to carefully construct the storyline, they can just put the Infinities tag on it.

Here in the Games forum, most people tend to care about gameplay first, and continuity second.

I for one fully support cool new "what if" scenarios...but only if it's clearly labeled Infinities. None of this "some of it counts, some of it doesn't, but we won't clearly define how we've split it up because we're making money and we don't need to" business...but I happen to be obsessed with continuity and following the latest retcons and whatnot.

In Lit, it's a different story entirely. Might want to PM one of the Lit mods (links to their profiles are available in the Lit forum banner) to find out where to best mention the petition/offsite discussion.

The Lit Fleet Junkie Thread would probably be the best thread to mention it in. :)

I'm with Aragorn on this one. Heck, it doesn't even need the Infinities label on it. We just need some official word that "no, this game is not (and was not intended to be) in continuity." I'm sure some of it will get in eventually, but playing the canon guessing game can be annoying for continuity junkies.

Also, continuity and fun are not mutually exclusive: X-wing, TIE Fighter, KotOR, Dark Forces, the Jedi Knights, et cetera, et cetera.

Rogue and Aragorn put it best-- off-the-wall storylines are fine and even great if done properly-- I'd just like to have a clear-cut word on their canoncitiy. If they'd make use of the Infinities lable outside of comics it'd make everything alot easier. Hell, I'd absolutely love a Civilization III-style turn based game which would allow you to rewrite SW history from the very beginning. I'd just like it if they made it clear it was non-continuity.

It's an incredibly easy fix, really-- just print that little logo on the box, and it kills all continuity complaints.

As for the actual content of the expansion-- I still fail to understand why LA is so skittish about trying new things nowadays. It seems like since Jedi Outcast we haven't gotten any game that treads new ground. Must every game take place in those same four years?

Sigh. It's the same problem with all the LFL-licensed materials of late, really. Well, except for Dark Horse.

EDIT: Duh, there's KotOR. Forgot about that one. Still, that's about the only exception.

Thanks Aragorn, I'll keep that in mind, I actually cooled off a little bit since they hinted they might make the storyline all intricate and retcon it very well... but if they fail they will get a can of whoopass, hopefully they will release it before the end of the summer so we can rally together all the EU fans if need be :D.

With that being said, still anyone interested in EaW do post in that forum, I for one was pretty disappointed with the gameplay (as opposed to Rebellion, which was awesome! :D). I kind of think they've been dropping the ball ever since Prequels came out.

Igor I personally lost all faith in the capabilities of LFL and LA ever since the prequals came out with a few exceptions. In general I find their products to be of ever decreasing quality trying to ride the hype of the PT (which sucked too) and they lack original ideas. I do wish that they'd get off the OT timeframe and do original games with original characters.

And after spending years following the EU and incorporating game canon I just gave up and said frack it as there was no point in fighting.

But for the idealist yeah you'd get more support from the Lit forum as most of us just care about the entertainment of a game. We all want original content but we don't worry about continuity so much anymore. And tell them no more battle of hoth please.

FlareStorm is right. Not every game needs be continuity-hypnotised. And you don't know who the "crime lord" really is. Perhaps a fake. It's the "how" he takes the supership that matters. Remember, In the Isard's Revenge book, Isard and a small strike team was all thatw as needed to temporarily steal the Superstar.

And if it's set in the New Republic era, this is all the better.
