I've put most of my impressions--including those on Thrawn--in the Fleet Junkie thread. To be short, I love the DSII, Thrawn's ISD, and Executor. I just love the new Empire in general, it's much better now.

As for the ending, it pretty much hints at a sequel expansion.

One of my favorite parts was when Silri explains that the Sith holocron is a starmap, and Zann complains that every Sith artifact seems to be a starmap.

Are the Rebs still overpowered so as to overwhelm their pathetic TIEs with T-65s and Corellian Corvettes in TL1 before they can start producing anti-Blockade Runner Acclamators? We all know that at the maximum Tech Level, the Imps > the Rebs. It's just rough to get them started and stay alive.

The TIEs still get battered to death by A-wings and X-wings in the normal game--Acclamators don't kill the corvettes fast enough.

TIE Interceptors help a lot in that they're a superior match to X-wings--VSDs and up will use them by default. Y-wings are still an infinite pain because they can blow huge chunks into Super Star Destroyers and even batter down their shields with a few ion shots. B-wings are worse. The Empire can finally do the same to the Rebels with the use of TIE Defenders, though.

SWBob: I had Zann disappear on Nal Hutta once, but he came back when I captured the planet. Are you saying you can't take the planet since Urai has vanished?

Zann disappeared on Nal Hutta with me as well, but he came back when I physically took over the planet (not just corrupted it). Still can't get Urai to appear on Saleucami though.

What are Thrawn's and Bel Iblis's roles in this game? Do either of them appear in little holograms, telling you to do/not to do stuff?

Thrawn is the Imperial Star Destroyer Admonitor, which appears as a seperate model (unlike Piett's). His is trimmed in blue, which is amusing.

In the course of the Underworld campaign, he also appears in hologram form to threaten Tyber Zann.

General bel Iblis appears as a giant moving fortress on ground maps, with two shield generator hardpoints, four laser cannon hardpoints, and two turbolaser hardpoints. He does not, however, appear in hologram form anywhere.

    Thank you, Jello!

That should be enough to tide me over until I get the game...

Could that be a hint as to how holocrons appear to non-Force users, perhaps?

I just figured out who Atha Prime is!

   [face_mischief] :p

    Hey, it works, too!

Nice ending, otherwise. The Battle of Kuat sounds suitably epic for a battle there.

Oh, yes, its definately epic. It drove me nuts for a whole afternoon trying to figure out the best way of completing it. :p

I think I paid the price for building up a giant fleet, as the Empire compensated and threw over a hundred star destroyers at me... I literally had to sit there for over an hour blowing up star destroyer after star destroyer after star destroyer. In the end I just decided to use the overpowered self destruct features of my abundance of Aggressor-class destroyers to take out a huge swathe of the opposition. [face_whistling]

I guess it didn't help that it wasn't until I replayed it that I noticed the button to fire the Eclipse's laser. I had to take out the SSD the hard way. :p

It was a cool final mission though, actually felt rewarding to complete it unlike some of the overly easy levels in the original game.

:p Well, that just sums you up in a nutshell. Zorri :p

How does the Eclipse compare to the Executor?

    Isn't it unarmed, actually?

Keldabe-class battleships (Mandalorian design) and Aggresor-class destroyers. The fore being the stronger, and the latter an Imperial design recovered from the Death Star debris.

Zorrixor: Actually, you'll notice that the superlaser actually malfunctions when the SSD arrives. That means that you have to destroy it conventionally anyway.

So now that people have actually played the game, I'm curious whether you still feel the same about its position in continuity.

Little strange, but feasable. Not nearly as many problems to work out as the original.

It's essentially unarmed. It's basically just a building site with only the super laser yet operational. It can't be moved, it just sits there in the corner of the map. The Executor is extremely fun to use, it can virtually tear up a whole system on its own and deploy a huge number of TIEs.

Mentioning TIEs, it was interesting to notice they gave ISDs quite a lot, I can't remember exactly from memory but it was something like 8 squads of TIE Interceptors and 4 squads of TIE Bombers, i.e. more like two TIE wings worth than one. It's a pity there is so much material that gives the ISD's fighter capacity as 1 wing as now we have things like Venators carrying a huge number of fighters I feel it'd be better to actually treat the ISD as having a few more- so this was a welcome change, even if it will just be treated as game mechanics.
I thought the Keldabe and Aggressor were very nice designs. Unique for a change.

I'm really hoping they do a DB update to give some proper stats (especially lengths) for them. The Keldabe is quite a nice battleship, I would imagine its around the size of an ISD. The Aggressor is unusual as its basically a giant gun with an engine. It has a few lasers but not many. For how big its main gun was I felt it was a bit lackluster as compared to a regular turbolaser I expected that beast to tear ships apart. Take out need for game balance and I expect fictionally the Aggressor is quite a monster.

Talking of lengths, for some reason I felt even more that the Tartan's length must be a mistake. In the original game it seemed excusable as the Tartan felt a little tougher than it does in FoC. The Tartan literally felt as flimsy as a corvette in FoC so its 600m length seems quite off now. It would be nice if someone from the DB could come along and go "whoops, typo".

What does Thrawn say to threaten Zann?

    How's his voice like? Oh wait . . . American accented? [face_worried]

I always imagined him to talk like Hugo Weaving, only with a heavier accent.

    EDIT:

    [face_laugh]

I just realized how hilarious this statement sounds when taken out of context...

The voice isn't the old TIE Fighter Thrawn, which is kind of dissapointing. Basically Thrawn tells Zann to stay king of his sandbox and ignore the galactic playground; Zann makes some odd remarks about how the Empire is crumbling (This is still before RoJ, definitely) and they politley threaten each other.

It seemed completely unneccesary and out of character for Thrawn.

There's a zip file containing some soundclips from the game. I figure it's fair use, since it's pretty much the same thing as a screenshot. :)
