Or it’s like putting a gold human face on a stormtrooper helmet, which looks great and intriguing.

Yeah, I personally didn't think the helmet design looked cool, interesting or intimidating, tbh. I am however intrigued by Enoch, and I believe I could come around to his appearance if he turns out to be a badass fighter - which I am hoping we will see in Ep 7 & 8.

I’d call it more unsettling than intimidating. And that’s fine. We have Thrawn to intimidate us all.

Hard disagree with both of these statements. That whole introductory scene of both characters was just weird.

It didn’t work for me anymore than had the stormtroopers been chanting “Palpatine! Palpatine!”when the Emperor arrived on DS2. It’s oddly informal, for some admiral that himself is very rigid. And the stormtroopers themselves are very unanimated in their body language for all the sound they are making.

I choose to believe that Thrawn is playing “Thrawn chants” over a loudspeaker somewhere. Imagine Saruman telling the Uruk-Hai they were going to war, and hearing an explosion of roaring from the crowd, yet they stand perfectly rigid. I mean do they do this every time he’s on deck meeting with these witches? This isn’t some military rally, nor the victory cheer on a battlefield. “The boss has a meeting again? Thrawn! Thrawn! Yay, Thrawn!”

If it is the case that they are undead and see Thrawn as some god figure to them now, as someone speculated, then I’d think bowing or kneeling in silence more appropriate than populist chanting “There goes my lord and savior! Three cheers for Jesus!”

And lastly, Thrawn himself has done minimal of note, except reunite Sabine with Ezra setting up the most awkward reintroduction. And that was done so this random ex-Jedi he doesn’t know can track her to go kill Ezra. When he later states that it makes no difference to him if Ezra is dead or stranded. So why not kill Sabine, leave Ezra stranded and [as stated] kill any approaching Purgil? And if you still want to ditch Baylan and Shin, then he could still just given them the coordinates to Ezra’s last known location directly, and cut out Sabine as the middleman.

The man was treated like Sauron, some ultimate evil that absolutely cannot be allowed to return, and that’s his introduction?

All of that to say this show is a mess, IMO. And at the end of the day, I anticipate Enoch to be another OT Boba Fett, Marrok or Phasma, there probably won’t be anything really to him except a cool look* and maybe an interesting fight.

    Die well? Qapla?

*IMO this doesn’t hold true for Enoch

I'm guessing the primary inspiration for Enoch is the Maschinenmensch from Metropolis (who is essentially a Golem figure, which is - I suspect - what Enoch is). A reanimated slave.

    [IMG] [IMG]

And, of course, the inspiration for McQuarrie's original 3PO design.

As I mentioned my original take was something from Kingdom of Heaven.

But his mask looks like a Egyptian sarcophagus, which promotes the idea of life after death.

So instead of zombies - as some have mentioned - maybe it's an army of mummies. The troopers even have red bandages. Risen by ancient Night Sister magic. Whatever it is, they're using very old Earth civilizations to communicate this idea. Ancient Egypt (Magic, Chemistry, Gold, etc) with Ancient Rome (military Empire). Maybe the Night Sisters were once part of the ancient history of the galaxy. Well, before the rise of the Jedi and the Republic.

The mask is silly, but they've had a lot of time on their hands. I'm thinking Chopper will take a dislike to it and Enoch will meet an untimely end.

Nice. That was actually one the first things I mentioned after seeing the episode. Baldwin IV.

But I don’t know if that’s what inspired it. Just what came to mind right away.

Hopefully we get to see under the mask... or maybe a peek at those catacombs.

It’s exciting to see Star Wars delivering fresh designs that push the envelope, but are still so very Star Wars.

Enoch needs a spinoff show set on Endor called, "Enoch and the Ewok." That would rock!

Enoch's golden mask reminds me of a Roman death mask. Also Tigris of Gaul in the movie Gladiator springs to mind.

As history teacher it's bit irritating how the first thing everyone is reminded of is often popular culture reference, while sure Enoch probably draws inspiration from movies and perhaps from Metropolis too. His mask is very much like real ancient masks used by soldiers in greece and Rome etc.

Like this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nijmegen_Helmet Or this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newstead_Helmet

And of course as some have mentioned Tutankhamon etc. death masks are also great inspiration. Both pharaohs and greco-roman ones like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mask_of_Agamemnon.

These are where all fictional masks are ultimately based on, facts inspire fiction after all.

And as with Kylo Ren in episode IX there was kintsugi style in Enoch's night troopers. Too bad it seems that night troopers are no more effective than ordinary stormies, just have cool dathomiri skins.

But in this case, most people here were initially reminded of…Roman and Greek masks. Though mostly just because they saw Gladiator…

I was reminded of secret societies with masks. The Night Troopers seem very much like a cult.

I think most of the villains will stick around for the movie/S2.

Now that we learned the Night Troopers are nothing special, we should expect a ton of them to die, being the typical fodder they always are.

Surely someone has to bite it otherwise the series could potentially lack weight.

It will. We already learned in E7 that it's going to lack weight.

Filoni is unwilling to kill Purrgil or snail people, there's no way he kills any of the heroes.

Baylan will have something bad happen to him. And maybe New Republic troops will get the crap blasted out of them at the end.
