I thought Event Horizon was intense and gory, and was for the most part, scary. Much better than alot of horror flicks around these days.

Event Horizon, seen at age 12, is the only movie to ever give me nightmares. Which is a bit odd considering the fact that I was raised on horror movies, having seen films like Psycho and Alien before I was even in kindergarten. I saw Alien 3 in the theater when I was in 2nd grade [face_dancing]

I guess my abstract thought processes found EH's surreal, multi-dimension concepts far scarier than any monster or killer.

edit- In The Mouth of Madness, also starring Sam Niel, is a close second. It's probably the only other movie to have genuinely frightened me out upon initial viewing (I don't really find either film all that scary now that I'm all grow'd up)

Event Horizon was pretty freaky and spooky, but I still believe that the scariest movie title needs to go to....

It was gory... It wasn't really scary, though.

Alien always wins for scary sci-fi. Always.

Event Horizon had an interesting premise, but it was pretty mediocre.

Maybe I should've been clued in by the fact that it was on Sci-Fi on Sunday afternoon...

I didn't think it was especially scary but I really enjoyed it. :)

Oddly though, there was like a few years there in my life where no movie scared me. I watched it during that time . . . If I were watching it now for the first time it might be scarier, heh. :D But as far as movies that have scared me during my lifetime . . . I think 30 Days of Night scared me more, and probably The Ring even. But I know people who were terrified by Event Horizon and hated The Ring. So I dunno. (Course, most the people who hate the ring seem to only hate it cuz it's a remake? Who knows.)

I'm like that with books, I love horror books but I've never been frightened by one. =\ Movies on the other hand, I'm more susceptible to.

    Scummy

I've always been somewhat perplexed at the way people become absolutely frightened by situations they could never actually find themselves in. I mean, as my chances of passing the speed of light, finding myself in a horrible realm that reduces my cognitive ability to only being able to leave cryptic warnings in fractured latin after having torn out my eyes and then trying to kill everyone around me are effectively nil, I see no need to be scared by the movie.

I think there's a difference between something that is scary in atmosphere and something that is scary in how things jump out. It seems like a lot of horror mainly comes down to close face shots so you can't see whatever is going to surprise you and sudden loud noises, etc . . . The things that really amaze me is when nothing is jumping out but you're feeling dread for some reason. I don't get that . . . :\

I think E.T. was the movie that scared me the most. Two of my brothers have also had some of our worst nightmares involving being chased around the house by E.T. when we were younger. :( :( :_|

I *loved* Event Horizon. Just the basic concept was so plausible.. where do you go when you fold space? The answer? HELL! It was just terrific!

oh, I agree on E.T.! In fact, I refue to watch the movie, even now at 24. It just plain creeps me out, especially the beginning when there could just as well be a xenomorph or Predator out there instead of the "cute" little weirdo E.T.

gorgeous score, though. glad I have that :p

Sadly, it's been that way for me most of my life. I think I can count on one hand, the number of movies that have truly scared me. And I love being scared. :(

If folding space by going through is a plausible concept for you then, well...would you be interested in buying this fine assortment of snake oils?

Part of enjoying movies is suspending reality and allow yourself to go along with the story. Event Horizon is as unrealistic than most scifi flicks.

Event Horizon is a nice blend of science fiction and the classic haunted house, that sets up it's gory and graphic images with mystery and suspense. Like many campfire storys, the audience if given a tale of something that had occurred and details are unknown. Next, the audience becomes part of the tale as they investigate and become more invested in the story... and then BOO!!! The ill fated tale has become the audience's reality. Event Horizon hits all these marks of a great campfire story. The Blair Witch Project did the same for me, as I allowed myself to buy into the promotion premise "The students go into a forrest to film and documentary and are never heard from again." The best horror films aren't the gory, graphic slasher films, but the ones that set up the scare factor by allowing the audience to use their imagination and create a picture of the grotesque and vile.

As for E.T.??? Yeah, I was scared by the film. Especially at the beginning of the film. I didn't know if E.T. was a friendly or violent alien. I thought Elliot was pretty stupid in trying to lure a creature into his home. I would have screamed my head off like Drew Barrymore to see a freak of nature like E.T.

The movie freaked me the **** out. [face_hypnotized] It had me scared for days.

I need to see it again...

Although, for some reason, the only movie that could ever really get to me was Halloween, the original. Something about Jamie Lee Curtis' screams I guess. :p

Sorry, sorry, Sith-Sensei-Prime, just messing around a bit. I will admit, Event Horizon is a pretty good movie. Makes me wonder about why Paul Andserson has become such a craptastic director as of late.

EDIT: Just check teh intarwebs. Apparently this movie's quality has something to do with the fact that Andrew Kevin Walker did an uncredited rewrite on it.

This movie is scary in that it's provacative and makes you think. That's alot scary than most movies in the horror genre. There's nothing scarier than a paradigm shift.
