Ever notice that "elite" Imperial units generally tend to suck?

bad intelligence (they were told the Ewoks were harmless)

Apocalypse Endor is awesome for that. They had the stormtroopers scared witless.

Is that anything like The Unseen Enemy? It was a short fan film here on TF.N with stormtroopers being stalked by Ewoks.

It isn't that the elites are bad -- the heroes are just better.

    Bah! Well-met!
    ;)

Still doesn't make Death Squadron look any better, though... I can understand Han being a badass pilot...but to swallow that it was exceptional for him to think of going down relateive to the ISDs makes one wonder about the quality of helmsmen and captains in the Imperial Navy.

I believe in Cestus Deception, they talked about how all the tough training the clones, and how they were the best soldiers in the galaxy. I guess that somehow didn't carry over to Stormtroopers.

And then there's the Imperial fleet over Endor. Even without the Emperor's little Force-powers coordinating their every move, they still had to have outnumbered the Rebels at least 5-to-1 in capital ships, and maybe 20-to-1 in starfighters.

In NJO Rebel Dream, Lusankya shreds a Yuuzhan Vong cruiser (which was directly compared to a Calamari Cruiser) to pieces in a few seconds. But at Endor, the Executor doesn't seem to do much but sit there waiting for those A-wings to beat the heck out of it.

So for the massive disaster the Rebel Alliance managed to get itself into, it sure managed to turn the tide rather quickly.

The kaminoans could have ran out of Jango Juice, and had to clone a clone. That would increase genetic decay, and the Stormies would be worse for the wear.

The process of mitosis, performed millions of times a day in every human body, copies DNA quadrillions of times in the course of a lifetime. If copying a copied strand resulted in that sort of severe genetic decay, life would not be possible--not even for the simplest eubacteria.

And it isn't like there is noone who can compare to Jango.

I wonder if TK-622 was a Jango clone. He looked very similar to Jango. But this is 22 years after Jango died.

I'd say that the Imperial Army and in particularly StormTroopers are getting an undeserved bad rap, if anything has an overflated reputation its the Imperial Navy, the most powerful military organisation in the galaxy but from Endor onwards it gets regular whippings from the Rebels. It still staggers me how it collapsed so quickly given its much vaunted reputation for professionalism.

I think you're being far too hard on Death's Head squadron, let me elucidate.

    1. "It could be smugglers...."
They were sumugglers, Han especially. Very perceptive that man.

    2. "...too close to the system."
Now this one is just completely unfair. The probe droid came out of hyperspace so close it crash landed on the planet. Following the same telemetry it indeed shows the prowess of the navigators that they were able to take orbit instead of plowing bowfirst into the ground.

    3. "CommScan has detected a shield..."
It's a shield! It's hiding whats under it! Geez how'd you miss that?

    4. "Take evasive action!".
Okay now there's a completely reasonable explination for this one. Han's exams at the Imperial academy indicated two dimensional thinking. Unfortunately the explination was cut from ESB at the storyboard phase along with the ISD captain's heatrending scream of "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN", for undisclosed legal reasons.

    5. "...they must have been destroyed."
Now this complaint is just silly since they were destroying asteroids. What actually happened here is a funny story that starts with a wookiee, 5 gallons of shaving cream, and a drunk fraternity bet. Long story short, that ISD's shield generators had been replaced by a secret stash of furry porn. No it wasn't a good idea per se, but it probably seemed like one at the time.

    6 "Shields up"
You're misquoting him, which may be because of his thick English accent. What he actually said was 'She holds up' a grudging echoing of the ability of the falcon to keep going even after relentless pounding.

    7. "...small has a cloaking..."
Little known fact, that ship was actually crewed entirely by members of the Empire's secret order* as shown in Tie-Fighter. All those on the bridge in fact ranked atleast spleen or greater, meaning they already had knowledge of that.

    8. "...appear on our scopes..."
That's because the aft sensor technicians we're busy trying to guide the rest of the fleet out of the asteroid belt. In fact the only person who might have noticed was the afformentioned Bob because the Falcons magnet grapple was right over his compartment and totally erased his entire VHS collection of Xena. Unfortunately he got trapped in the Compactor and no one noticed, you can very briefly see him floating away with the rest of the garbage.

    9. "Don't worry..."
Have you Seen The absurdly large number of oddly shaped SD hulls in existence? They'd be lucky to notice a mon cal cruiser grappled to an SD from visual inspection. Really it's all the shipyards' fault. Can't those lazy bastards standardize?

I think that conclusively destroys your entire arguement I'll be in my trailor if anyone needs men.

    * Except for Bob, the Garbage Compactor Technician Thid Class on Deck 47. He always wondered where everyone went on Tuesday nights.

That is one of the most incredible posts I've seen in months, Farraday!

I hereby award you the Order of the Valorous Post? award, for conspicuously humorous posting above and beyond the call of duty.
